Pleased for tony Robinson.

Will add, time team has been an excellent show over many years and you can see he loves it

He certainly does, having had the foresight when it started years ago to negotiate a repeat fee of £1,000 every time an episode with him in it is screened anywhere on TV.

Worth it just for the mousetrap gag in Blackadder II alone. If we weighed other stuff into consideration, such as his culinary skills in Blackadder Goes Forth, he'd probably be king or something.

Worth pointing out that this was a political award, i.e. almost certainly nominated by the labour party whose national executive committee Tony Robinson was on for a while. Opposition parties are allowed to put a number of suggestions forward and probably better him than some retiring MP or whatever.

As a leftie I would have thought he would have been anti our corrupt honours system.

Actually quite weird how honours can change your perspective.

My landlady over in NI has an OBE. She was also an SDLP councillor.

There have been a number of good articles fairly recently from people who accepted honours who you might expect to have refused which are quite informative (e.g. http://timesonline.typepad.com/dons_life/2012/12/obe.html). I am sure it possibly crossed his mind not to accept but I think his statement is clear that he accepted as the title could help with some of the things he is involved in and that he is not taking it that seriously.

"I'll use my new title with abandon to highlight the causes I believe in: the importance of culture, the arts and heritage in our society, and the plight of the infirm elderly and their carers. I also pledge that I'll slaughter all unruly dragons, and rescue any damsels in distress who request my help."

Its a bit like a socialist being a multi millionaire and he is one of those

You old right-wingers always peddle the same old same old, don't you. Failure to understand that socialists are all in favour of everyone having the opportunity to become multi-millionaires. But they recognise the building blocks of good health, housing and education need to be in place to give everyone the opportunity to reach their potential rather than having it handed to them on a plate.

i would not take much notice they seem to spout the same old slogans which belong to the brain dead wing of the old tory party and those pensioners who left to join ukip.the honours system is means nothing to anyone under a certain age but it needs updating to something modern like the American rewards system medal of honour rather than the stupid outdated order of britsh empire or lord or sir dame;)

They tend to be too thick to understand.

Socialism by its nature suppresses people's opportunity to better themselves.

That's why the more successful you are financially the more likely you are to lean to the right.

Which is counter intuitive to your previous assertion that (socialist) Tony Robinson is a multi-millionaire. Guess that makes you right VFTT - they're too thick to understand. Can't even justify their own arguments lol

It is possible to believe passionately in the right to health, housing and education but believe it can only be achieved by putting in place the best conditions for wealth to be created. It has to be paid for. The side-effect is that some people become very rich, I can live with that but the left ideology resents it. That's why left leaning government's tend to bankrupt.

In fairness your contribution has been to call me thick and then say 'Oh Dear'. Thank you for your well constructed counter argument. Wish you were in my pub quiz team.

They think that right wingers only lean to the right because they're not enlightened enough. It's a typical insulting retort perfected by the BBC.

It's amazing how many of the enlightened left accept honours and bow and fawn to the Queen. The great leftie slogans of equality seem to melt away when it comes to the Queen and accepting honours bestowed in her name.
