Southampton Red Bulls?

Southampton Football Club's future is hanging on by a thread and can only rely on a Austrian consortium after Matthew Le Tissier's Pinnacle Group withdrew their interest.

Former midfield ace Le Tissier, 40, confirmed that the Pinnacle deal could not be confirmed due to an agreement with the football league unable to be met. Le God also confirmed he was 'Frustrated and Hurt' at the decision taken by the Pinnacle consortium this morning.

All hope hangs on the shoulders of a Austrian consortium, thought to be none other than Red bull. The sports company are worth £8bil and have a string of successful sports teams and endorse very successful sports stars, such as Sebastian Vettel and Kevin Pietersen, however, the deal could agree that the clubs name can be changed, as all red bull owned sports teams have 'Red Bull' in their names, the proposed name is rumoured to be 'Southampton Red Bulls'. This may cause uproar in the City as it is against tradition and with all due respect, sounds very American. Mark Fry is expected to make a statement this evening; however there are rumours going around that Pinnacle stepped aside due to Le Tissier saying that the Austrian consortium can provide a better future for the Saints. According to Mark Fry there will be no more exclusivity, it's either a straight cash deal by Friday or the club will close. There is a Middle Eastern consortium said to be interested too but no-one knows who this could be

Thanks to TL, MF etc I am renouncing my previous positivity in favour of hardened ultra-cynicism.

I see that Saint Stevo is renouncing his hardened ultra-cynicism in favour of uber-WUMism.

;)

Can you call someone a cynic who was ultimately right...........?

Its not my website, thought it an interesting story.

Just one question Steve. After Red Bull take over, are they finally going to get round to ratifying Carsten Janker's transfer? ;)

If this happens I will streak around Fratton Park on a match day in front of both Pompey fans.

So is it a battle between a Swiss consortium and an Austrian consortium, or is someone's knowledge of geography woefully lacking ?

I think this is a wind-up personally.

The only thing known is that the Swiss are the only lot in, and a rumour about the Bull of Red has sprung up somehow.

It's probably utter rubbish.

Stveo, you are a Skeptic not a cynic! Re-badge yourself pronto and you can carry on saying the same things without fear of condemnation!

It would probably break some FL rule to have a commercial named team. They are more than welcome to call SMS the 'Red Bull Stadium'

No worse than sponsoring the league I would imagine (Coca Cola Championship etc), or allowing a team to move 50 miles from its roots and adopting an American style name (MK Dons)

Red Bull Southampton sounds good and the name is just semantics like the Friends Provident St Marys Stadium, which was always St Marys to the fans, the team will always be Southampton FC (but with a new a badge, sponsor and no stripes I would imagine - still Red and White though)

I think someone came up with Red Bull in another thread thinking they might have been the Swiss Pharmaceuticals company muted to be interested because of their existing link with a few clubs. Someone pointed out that Red Bull were in Fact Austrian and not Swiss. I wouldn't be surprised if it spawned from there...

To be honest, so long as they don't take away the beer and replace it with their sh!te tasting caffeine-esque vomit inducing crud of a drink I couldn't care less.

If it means our survival I'll settle for being called "Southampton Tampax FC" or "Southampton Pampers FC".

I'm just going to agree with everything that Stevo says from now on..... it'll make my life easier in the long run because he always seems to be right.

Hell........ I might even go the whole hog and convert to the church of GMism.

Spot on! But as we know, a few inconvenient facts are rarely enough to stop a good rumour.
