So where do we need to strengthen..?

I reckon Saga and either SJ or GR will leave. Think Morgan will leave too.

Thomas, Size and Perry are good enough.

Definately need fullbacks. Centre midfield looks a bit bland so need someone/two in there. Couple of good wingers and some pacey strikers also.

Think all in all about 7 or 8 good players in this league to get us promoted I reckon.

Nice to talk football again :)

First thing we need to do is hire a decent defensive coach. We have been very very poor in this department for quite a while now.

Amen to that! We could do with a good leader in the back 4 to keep things together. I know he wasn't great by any means, but we've looked a great deal weaker in the back 4 IMO ever since Claus retired.

Since Svennson came in as coach I have noticed we now compete far more at corners than ever before.

We need proper full backs and skillfull, pacey winger who can deliver the ball into the middle rather than row z.

Following areas need strengthening imo: Left Back, Right Back (Murty?), 1 more CB (assuming Saeijs also signs), Right & Left wing & possibly 1 more striker.

Always said, 2 players per position is the way to go. At the moment the squad looks like this in that respect:

GK: Davis, Bialkowski, Forecast, Poke - Atleast 1 of the latter 3 will have to go, we don't need 4 keepers.

RB: L James, Sign Graeme Murty & this position is sorted.

LB: Joseph Mills, need another LB to give him abit of competition

CB: Thomas & JP Saeijs assuming he signs to be 1st choice, Perry & Lancashire as back up altho would prefer getting somebody like Alan Bennett instead of Lancashire.

RM: Very weak here atm IMO, only got Thomson who from what i saw against Totton isn't quite gd enough, back up maybe but not for starters so a new right winger needed.

LM: If Holmes can stay fully fit this season i think he'll be brilliant in L1, typical winger who gets to the byline. He'll need some competition here tho so maybe a new left winger altho Oscar Gobbern could easily fill that void.

CM: Gillett & Schnerderlin first choice i think, Wotton back up for Morgan, looks like Lallana is off so an attacking midfielder would be gd.

CF: Expect Saga to go but i think we may be able to keep Rasiak along with offering Stern John a new deal, Paterson as back up so room for 1 more striker i think.

We definitely need a left back now Molyneaux, Surman, Skacel have gone, someone whose slightly experienced so Joseph Mills can perhaps come in for a few games.

If we can get Size again our centre of defence should be fine, however I believe maybe one tall centre back who is 22-30 would help as Chris Perry is getting on a fair bit. Strengthen from the back so we have a solid foundation. Not forgetting Wayne Thomas will be solid at this level. Lancashire too it will be sink or swim for him, but the left back area is the priority.

Right back we're fine in with Lloyd James being a very good player and hopefully Murty too.

Midfield I think we'll be good in with Gillet, Morgan Morgan Schneiderlin, Euell, and hopefully Lallana (if he stays), Jake Thompson has plenty of potential.

I'm unsure if keeping Wotton is a good thing, his passing is woeful we always look lackluster when he plays, he's about as mobile as a 3 legged camel. We're better off using a youngster instead of him. Lee Holmes will be a key asset in this league if he's fit. Maybe Gobern might fit into the role of centre midfielder perfectly this season he's looked a bit hit and miss.

But we need some other players perhaps a backup centre mid with a bit of flair if Lallana goes, and possibly a winger.

For strikers with Kayne Mcglaggon (sp) - Stern John - Saga - Rasiak and maybe even BWP we should really be scoring alot of goals which is why a good creative midfeilder is really needed to give them the ammunition. Someone to take corners and set pieces too.

So overall key areas

LEFT BACK.

RIGHT LEFT WING.

CENTRE BACK

CENTRE MIDFIELD.

WOW! A thread talking about...FOOTBALL (on TSW too!). Who'd have thought?! SUPERB!!

I love all the transfer talk and it's exciting to consider we can actually bring in players we need, rather than accepting the bottom of the barrell and injured loans no-one wants (much like last season!) whilst playing largely inadequate kids!

As much as I like Murty my concern is the lack of pace at teh back. Perry has gone in my opinion. He costs us goals with his lack of height and pace. Murty suffers from the same lack of height and pace so I worry about us being able to handle set peices. Mind you if Murty wins headers like Dodd and Telfer did then I'll be happy with that. Seijs is a must as is development from Lancashire. On the left Mills signing is a must but he'll need cover if Molyneux leaves - is he really leaving?

The entire midfield needs looking at. I don't rate Holmes or Thomson out wide. Both are lightweight and neither is going to actually scare defenders. They will hold an end up perhaps but we need the best wide men in the division. Players that are going to be lively and threatening ensuring opposing fullbacks never cross the half way line. These two are not that.

In the middle the Gillett/Schneiderlin partnership offers absolutely nothing going forward. In reserve we have Pulis and Wotton so that sounds like four `holding' midfielders to me. We need a box to box man, if not two and some goals. Lallana could offer an option in the hole but I don't want to see that crap diamond formation where Gillet ends up having to handle all four opposing midfielders.

Up front we need some pace badly. Stern and Rasiak offer the fox in the box statuesque style striker but we want someone that is going to scare the living **** out of defenders and that means a combination of pace and power.

centre back (seeing as wotte has said that thomas will probably not be there on august 8th, also i don't really rate lancashire), left back (we only have mills and reeves who i both think look like good players but we need a bit of experience), right mid (no one apart from thomson), left mid (need back up for holmes), strikers (potentially saga, rasiak, bwp and euell could all go which would leave us with stern john if he signs and some unproven youngsters). Also, an attacking central midfielder would be good considering lallana wants out.

Personally, I'd say have a clear out. Faaar too much disinterested dead-wood in this team that has been hanging around picking up their paychecks for too long!

Get in some young hungry lads, eager to prove their point, players who given a couple of years could be prem standard. If done right and with the right management they could get that chance in the prem with us. Look at what everton have done, its not about outstanding individuals, its about hungry determined players with a good work rate and teamwork. If there is ever a model for any club to follow David Moyes is up there amongst them

On the face of it you're right. But i've said it many a time, he is actually awesome in the air. I have no idea how he does it but he does. Remember Ben Burgess at Blackpool, beating Killer in the air every time? Whenever Perry competed against him in the air he always came out on top.

The area that needs strengthening most is manager!! The most important person at a football club!!! And i don't have much faith in wotte i'm afraid due to his appalling track record. I don't care how well he's arse licked/clung to keep his job over the last few weeks!!

It's brilliant that we now have this super-rich backing but there's one thing that worries me.

We can't completely re-tool the squad overnight and we're going to be relying on some players who might not have a longer term future here.

Knowing that there's all this money back there, the crowd might be a lot less tolerant than they have been in the past, and this could erode player confidence really quickly.

Once the window has closed and the cheque book is useless, that won't help us very much.

Definately need back up at left back, hopefully we will sign Murty, perhaps back up to CB positions but hopefully will keep thomas and sign Size.

Right midfielder would be nice, however i think Thompson will kick on this season. We also need to sign a couple of midfielders IMO to replace the losses. I would also take a hit on Lallana and let him leave if thats what he wants, can't see how he will fit in.

Also think we need a pacey winger to compliment either SJ or GR. Think Saga will go.

TBH, a fair bit of investment is needed, bulk up the backroom staff also.

We need some old experienced hands through out the squad. We are going to need them to get out of this league, the pretty stuff can wait until the Prem.

Old heads?? Ummm ... you mean like Davis, Perry, Thomas, Wotton, John? Yes, if only we could get older experienced players like that, eh?

Didnt Mills play for S****horpe last season in this league? Anyone know how he done?

Mills played for Scunny and did extremely well. With him and James we have two good young full backs for this level, to go with older and capable centre backs (2 out of Thomas, Perry and -- if we sign him -- Saeijs). Murty will be a good experienced back up (if we sign him) and there's Lancashire and some promising kids. With Davis in goal, defence is looking good.

Up front, assuming we do re-sign John, I'd also re-sign BWP who is quick & should do well in this league, and with the likes of Paterson and White and maybe even Rasiak if he stays, we look good.

Midfield is the question mark for me: who will stay and who can fill what roles. Can Lee Holmes cut it at LM? Is Thompson good enough at RM? Will Schneiderlin stay? Does Wotton still have enough left? Will Lallana stay and if so what role can he fill?
