The team will need serious help

From reading the commentary on the OS about the Bournemouth match, and thinking back to the Totton and Eastleigh results, it must be getting pretty clear to the new management that with our current crop of "talent" we will not be getting out of this league (well, at least not out at the top end).

I am really excited to see who will be brought in (manager and players).

I have thought that too. I think we need at least six new players to be competitive especially with the -10. The manager issues needs to be sorted ASAP to give whoever it is a fighting chance of finding the players and getting them to gel before the Millwal game. Time is very much against us IMHO.

It's going to be really hard for the new manager, they really do have a massive job. This current squad is not good, in fact you could probably say alot worse! Glad saints seem to be moving quickley to get things done I just hope there is enough time.

Would also like to see a good game for our new owner against AJAX but could turn out embarassing, hope I'm wrong really do.

Maybe these pre-season results are a good thing as it will show to the new management that the most urgent investment that is required is in the team management and players. Otherwise there is no way we'll be getting out of this league except at the bottom end.

To be fair (and I haven't been to any of the games yet), we seem to have played a very young side in the 2nd half of all three games and that is when we have conceded goals etc.

Wouldn't worry too much yet.

As I said in my post, I am not worried, just excited at the promise of new blood coming in.

I agree Bungle.

My concern is that the first team players are only getting 45 minutes match practice under their belts.

They have got use to loosing and that is not easy to change. I think we should clear the decks and start again. Its late in the day but this lot have no spirit and even less fight. To be honest I find it hard to name one player I would be sad to see leave the club. We need to get some togh seasoned pros in who take pride in heir display. They don't have to cost a fortune but they are needed badly.

you could call this the first real preseason match...

the player were back early and the previous games were billed as "fitness games"..

I hope from now on the senior pros get more of a run out..

would be nice to see rasiak banging in the goals...should he stay he could be lethal in this league

Well I have just got back, living in Bournemouth, and i have to tell you......

oh dear, there is a serious amount of work to be done, an awful lot of players need to be bought in, and a new manager with a bit about him to get the best out of what we have.

The only good points were - Mills at left back looked useful, Patterson when he came on looked busy...then I am struggling.

The bad points were - Lancashire is still as slow as before, Rasiak didnt seem interested, Lallana was...umm....**** ****in poor, there i said it.

Still its only a friendly, presumably a fitness thing and next saturday against Ajax we will begin to see the team take shape I hope.

But we are gonna need 5 or 6 players I reckon.

Let's be honest, a lot of our players are living on past reputation which will not cut it in Div 1 starting on -10. We urgently need a manager who will sort out the shambles we call a "team" and bring back the winning spirit to the Saints...

so the team was great last year then?

I only say this because they performed very well in several pre season friendlies, and apparently this is what we're judging them on now.

routine fitness exercises with no hint of a strongest 11, players missing, no manager, but we'll judge them for losing at bournemouth. pretty sensible that.

Indeed. SSN's headline just now was Di Matteo's first game in charge of WBA ended in defeat to a non league club. Really, who cares?

Pre-season used to get no coverage. It's changed a lot in the last 10 years as the gaps between seasons is now so small, but surely from our experiences you can see it counts for nothing. At all. Even if we won all our games 10-0 i'm not sure we could say we were on for good things. Didn't we win 8-0 or something like that under Sturrock which was our biggest win for donkey's years, even if it was some Swedish part timers. And that season ended well..!

There is a lot of work to do, for sure, but it's a very ling season and promotion will be a big big ask with everything thats' gone on.

All true and reassurring - but I am still sh!tting myself at the prospect of this lot playing Ajax in front of our proud new owner and his mukkers.

The Ajax game could be a bit of a horror show.

Not sure if it's a good one for the boss to bring his mates to.......

If (which it may well be) Its a poor poor game by saints i'm going to really feel for the man.

By the sounds of it we need a whole new squad!!!

Saying that when he turns up to the AJAX game I'm sure the fans will give him a fantastic welcome. COYR

Thanks to those that were at the game for your reports.

I think it is to early to say how the team will shape up. Remember many of these early warm up matches are about getting match fit etc etc. This year has been more difficult than usual due to the situation at the club.

Its easier to chastise Adam Llanna bu this is his first outuing since his injury

and he's no way ready to return to full on football.

Don't read to much into these initial warm up matches. judge their performance on the games against Hearts and xjax and lets see what the new manager brings to the side.

Buying players is not necessarily the answer.

Lets get a team that works for each other and has the motivation to keep fighting until the final whitsle has gone

On the plus side, I guess he'll be left in no doubt that the team needs some prudent investment quickly.

The team does need strengthening. But it's early days and it will take time to build a competitive side. The manager will need time to assess the team and draw a short list of transfer targets. We'll need a least four new players and the team will need time to gel. Therefore, please don't expect any miracles until mid Sept onwards. We must all be patient.

Absolutely. Been saying this for a while. We need a bloody good motivator as manager and some serious dealing done in the summer transfer window as well as signing some of our better quality players like John and Rasiak.

If not we are going down to League 2.

But, manager on the horizon and lets hope Saint Markus has heeded the warnings from the preseasons thus far. Are kids are simply not strong enough. We need some experience in this summer... asp.

Just back from Bournemouth.

I think we have just witnessed the worst team Saints ever and the way now has to be up.

Let's face it, the relegated team less all the better outfield players who have left and no one in, it cant get worse. The playing the game across the park introduced by Burley is still very evident and subbing Kelvin at half time hardly helped.

The no11 (Boyle?) was never in the game and apart from Perry , Gillet and Wotton no one took it above a stroll in the park. The habit of losing has to go.

Anyway, as we sung - 'We've got 2.5 billion'

A month to get it all together. Let's go and snell Herr Liebherr.

Why ? I'm sure he's as aware as anyone as to the amount of work that needs to be done.

The pre-season has essentially only just begun with everything prior to Tuesday being carried out under a cloud of total uncertainty. No matter who you are and in what field you work you'd need to be incredibly focused not to have let that affect your training/performance. If you have ever worked even for a short time under such circumstances you'll know it is not a nice feeling and with the best will in the world you can't give anything like your best.

For sure we are lacking players in many areas but even those who could do well for us are hardly likely to be anywhere near to being match fit. It is worrying but only in the short term I suggest, once we have a new manager and some new faces only then will we begin to see what the new season might have in store. It just requires some patience.

Too right. Monday. And some urgent transfer work needs to be done.

Exactly. If the team do not recover the points deduction within the first 5, 6 or 7 games then in my opinion the season would be over. If it takes much over 10 games to recover the deductions then we might as well use the rest of the season to prepare for life in League 2.

Everybody says not to read anything into it, as the players are obviously not match fit. What a shame that we are playing these lower league teams or semi-pros, whose fitness levels are examplary, because they continue playing every week, foregoing holidays just to maintain peak condition themselves. Hardly fair, pitching ourselves against them, is it?

After such a splendid week off the field it was only to be expected the team would bring us right back to earth I suppose and that's exactly what they did . We were gash today and it must be said some of the more senior players involved were putting in particularly lacklustre performances .

A few observations :

Rasiak - Only there in theory - little discernible impact on the game .

Bialkowski - A proper 'flapper' if ever I've seen one , thank Christ we have Kelvin .

Lancashire - Is he starting to show some improvement ? - a definite maybe is the answer for now .

'Fish' Mills - looking rusty - not fully recovered from injury I suspect.

Our number 11 in the right midfield position (who's name escapes me ) looked lively.

Lovely goal from Patterson , he could go far

Bmth fans - The vile pikey minority behind the goal seem to hate us with a passion I'm pretty sure we don't really deserve - pathetic .

I've seen enough poor preseason games in my time to know not to read too much into it but a good manager and a few decent L1 quality players are required - ASAP I'd say .

With all the uncertainty of the last few months it was always going to be like this. Pre season was going to be hard as even the players with contracts did not know where they were going to be. Our new owner has only been in place for a few days and he has taken some direct action with ins and outs at the top, the next seven - ten days is going to be an even bigger roller coaster ride, hang onto your hats everyone.

What a poor performance.

Without investment in a good manager and some quality players we are destined for league 2 and the writing will be on the wall by Christmas.

I'm sure that this undeniable truth is apparent to our new owner and he is currently dusting off the blankety blank chequebook and pen in readiness.

Hopefully we will see the first step by the time we play Cheltenham on Tuesday.

I doubt that anything will happen player-wise until the new manager is on board.
