gaz Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 OK, I've never paid attention to his sides in the past. What are the styles and traits of the teams he fields? And what sort of player does it sign?
VectisSaint Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 Take a look at his Wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Pardew The extract below answers part of your question: and his régime to increase the fitness of the squad. Pardew also coined his motto "Tenacity, Spirit and Flair" to give his side a psychological edge.
Scudamore Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 Bobby Zamora and Marlon Harewood sort of players...
sambosa757 Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 Likes his attacking football. Reading and West Ham scored bags of goals under him. For every Bobby Zamora or Marlon Harewood, there is a Yossi Benayoun or a Dean Ashton.

Scudamore Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 Nothing is the answer to my question by the way...they were great signings for getting out of the Championship and did pretty well in the Premier League under Pardew despite having their stock fall in recent years... Ex Lion Tamer Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 He turned the club around from relegation fighters to promotion candidates through players, such as Jamie Cureton, and his régime to increase the fitness of the squad. Good idea for him to use players, i would never have thought of that. Being serious, West Ham played great passing football that season when they were doing well in the Prem. Wes Tender Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 He's a bit like Burley. HTH Do you mean that he doesn't tend to see that there are defensive weaknesses in his teams and instead of addressing them, signs ever more midfielders and plays them out of position? corky morris Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 £2m fro Djimi Traore is a shocker! He was & is one of the worst players to ever play in the PL. But like all managers some signings work out - some dont. It would be interesting to see the players coming in & out of Reading which is more of a similar situation to where we are at now. saint1977 Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 This makes for some interesting retrospective reading when you think about how it all panned out... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/w/west_ham_utd/5304708.stm I think it explains his comments on joining us as a "stable club". West Ham was a circus at the time and Charlton's board were starting to turn on each other in a way that we are very familiar with as Saints fans. The one stable environment was Reading and he did well. It's a slightly risky pick - as WGS was - but I've a feeling it could be a shrewd one. saint1977 Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 you are right it was. Not sure about Diarra as he signed four days after Pardew got there so proabably a done deal before he got there. Both of them were Dowie buys. Tony Cascarino - who does a lot of football media work in France - said at the time Charlton had paid at least double, and probably more, than Diawara was worth, hence Sochaux bit their hands off. Doctoroncall Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 Come on, what manager would say no? The stupid part was West Ham not even playing them. But I think that was actually Curbishley wasn't it? Mascherano had an injury, tevez was in and out, then pardew left. I'd choose Pardew over Curbishley tbh, but I never liked Curbishley. SAF has said no. Well from what I can remember it was late in the transfer window and it caused disruption to the team (that finished 9th and a FA cup final the season before I think) so a big gamble with the season already started. gaz Posted 17 July, 2009 Author Share Posted 17 July, 2009 Some of the names fill me with even more optimism. I wonder how many older/experienced Prem/CCC players his name (and ML money) will be tempted to join for a promotion push? Cant wait to see what happens. Rasiak-9- Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 Very, very hit and miss it seems. For every time he spunks money up the wall on appalling players like Diawara and Traore he seems to find a great player for free like Iwelumo. On the plus side however, money really isn't an issue right now and an active manager is really what we need. A shakeup of things is just the ticket and knowing him he'll be on the phone all week looking for players.
