Pardew interview

Sounds to me that the work permit issue is a red herring.

Possibly a combination of work permit and terms i would think.

He's a good player, but i wouldn't want us to pay completely silly money. I can imagine he was on a pretty decent wage at brum tbh.

I really like what Pardew has to say in his interviews. He always gives an open and honest account, and it's good to hear him talking about the need for some new players! Very reassuring to hear that a lot of work is being done behind closed doors to improve the club at all levels too.

From what Pardew is saying re: Jaidi situation, maybe I wasn't mis-informed with regards to why he hasn't signed? It's all a bit complex this one, but time will tell. Hopefully he does end up signing as I think he'd be a superb addition to the team. Still think Sam Sodje would be a good alternative if we can't sign Radhi for whatever reason, plus he's available on a free!

Best bit for me

"Graeme Murty and Dan Harding will bring with them experience of playing in a full back position at Championship level and I think that both of them could play in that division still. They will certainly strengthen those areas, but also help our young wide players too.

I think he's identified part of the problem with our formation last year. Our full backs didn't venture forward enough to support the wide players. And with AP's predilection for attacking football I'm really looking forward to seeing us getting in behind teams more and asking a few questions.

Agree completely. If you watch the interview on SaintsPlayer, they show you some brief clips of training, with Murty and James working on getting to the by-line and delivering some balls into the box.

It'll be interesting to see where he plays james, if Murty has filled that RB slot.

Personally I'd play him in RM...and stick Lallana as a supporting striker.

Your double negatives don't help a bloke thats had 6 beers already. Innit.

Is this your equivalent of the 'Triple Neimi'?

AP comes across as very top bloke in this interview - level headed - sensible. Dean Wilkins has something about him too - I like the fact he clearly has a good relationship with AP too - means he understands what the gaffer is THINKING, not just what he's saying....essential for a Asst. Mgr.

"we have other targets that we are looking at and hope to be able to bring one of those in shortly"

Does this mean we should be expecting a signing a soon? ?

Either that or a new dartboard for the players lounge.

Whats his exact words?

OK - forgive any mistakes or if I've missed something out.. but here's a rough transcript.. I repeat - rough transcript!!!

Interviewer: Looking ahead to the start of the season?

AP: Nothing more exciting than the start of the seaons. At the moment our side looks strong and determined for Sat. Hope the enthusiasm of the occasion works in our favour. Got to strenthen the side still but got a team that we hope will do us justice

Need depth and choices - team almost picks itself to a certain degree. Lot of young players learning their trade. More power and pace needed in the side - will improve that as we go along.

Interviewer: So you've signed Murty...

AP: Both him and Harding bring Championship level. Certainly give us strength and experience and help our wide players who are both very very young

Interviewer: Jaidi? Centre half ?

AP: Looking to strenghten all areas - trying to broker a deal - probably going away from us at the moment - don't want to elaborate - but that kind of player is needed.

In: 10 point deduction?

AP: Fans and reaction of those I've spolken to have been excellent. Put minus 10 points to one side and build the side as quick and powerfully as possible. Season tickets are brilliant, club has potential but unforutnatley in football doesn't equate to anything. Have to find something more substantial, good scouting and good players. We need to strengthen all areas. Scouting division we're sadly lacking even on junior side. going to fix that. Running mad from here and there to get new players. Be assured Soton fans that we're going to get stronger and better from here.

Interviewer: What about the Millwall game?

AP: Tough for us - they are favourites. Need fuel from the crowd, adreneline in the dressing room. Let's get the crowd on our side.

Interviewer: First game on the TV as well?

AP: Always adds a bit of spice - hope that doesn't turn fans away. Need them more now than the end of the season when we'll have a stronger team. Give us everything you've got!

I have to say that with AP, you actually believe what you are being told, as opposed to the spin, rhetoric and bullshoot of the last few years.

So these aren't his exact words? Can you highlight the words which he said and the ones that you have made up, just so it's clear. There are some words in there that I am not so keen on and want to make sure that they are your words rather than our mans. Thanks.

The bit that caught my eye was "Nicola is running everything at the moment". So what is Oldknow doing? Is he really part of the set up, or did he really just broker the deal. I thought he would be more involved on the commercial side, but this comment suggests maybe not.

The scouting bit is deeply worrying. How has the system been allowed to get in such a state? I don't have (m)any good things to say about Lowe, but he was always very keen on the youth, yet we sem to have even managed to screw up the scouting for the Academy, and that can be very damaging and difficult to put right quickly. We really could do with Prost or similar back.

Still, reasonably hopeful for Saturday. We do have a reasonably good looking 1st XI (which as AP says almost picks itself), but outside of that we look threadbare. Lets just hope no injuries or sill sendings off.

Davis, Murty, Perry, Thomas, Harding, Lallana, Gillett, Wotton, Holmes, Rasiak, Paterson seems to be the team, with Mills, Schneiderlin, Saga, Lancashire, Bart and a couple of kids on the bench to make up the numbers. Not too bad.

Oh god, they're in this thread too. Paraphrased - the sentiment is there in the words but might have paraphrased some of his sentances. Which concern you and I'll go and rerun the vid and make sure it was right - alternatively sign up for £3.99 a month and hear it right from the horses mouth :)

I just heard an interview on Talk Sport with Sven. they were talking about why hasnt he signed any top notch players and is he having a problem bringing players to Div2.

I was suprised by his answer when he said League 2 clubs are contrained by a rule that says they can only spend 60% of turn over on players wages so it is impossible to bring in Ex Prem players unless they take a massive deduction in salary.

So i guess the same or similar thing applies to US - there must be a cap on wage expenditure for Div 1 also - possibly more than 60%??? Maybe maybe not.

But i wasnt aware of any cap at all until today.

This may account for why we are not signing any "Big Names"

I think AP would have been quick to raise this if it were a concern? I think the lack of signings is purely AP not being able to attract the players he wants to Saints while we are in L1 and on -10 points. I would hope that AP is looking at the better players around and almost competing with CCC sides for a signature (This will be tough in our current plight)

If we are top 6 by Jan then better players maybe convinced to join, however I don’t believe we will be top 6 unless 'better' players sign now.

You could see a domino effect if we can attract/bribe a 'big'(ish) name to sign - may convince others tempted that we are ambitious and going places?

Think the cap is only in League 2. It was mentioned a couple of weeks ago as a potential problem for County. Doesn't matter how much cash their owner has, they need to get increased income through the gate.

What's the betting that their board are now 'paying' £25,000 each match for their seats at Meadow Lane?
