Beat Liverpool away in 97/98 season. David Hirst was on the score sheet. 3-2?

4-2 away at Chelsea new years day 2002 was the dogs though!!

Correct, I was there too; think it was also when Claus was lucky not to get sent off in first minute? I remember Hirst hit a penalty so hard I thought it was gonna go through the stand, let alone the net! :D

2 of the best games i've been to watching Saints have been the 3-3 at Old Trafford and the 2-2 at Highbury relegation season. But they can't compare as to how well we played beating Chelsea 4-2 on New Years Day and Liverpool 2-1 just before Christmas 04 I believe then stuffed Pompey at SMS the next game. We played amazing both games and completely played both teams off the pitch. Chelsea especially

Yep. The first time the whole "minimum of X minutes" argument came up as the ref had signalled 2 minutes, the ball never went out of play from that point on and van Persie scored towards the end of the 3rd minute of injury time.

I was sat in the North Bank (The end he scored in), i watched the ball leave his foot and all hell broke out, that goal preserved their unbeaten run that lasted to 49 games. I still spit when R V-P's name is mentiond as i also had saints to win 2.1 with the bookie.

those 2 points lost ultimately made a massive difference to us as well.

I had a bet on Saints to win as well at 12-1, and that damn ref screwed me out of £60. The Manc derby yesterday put me in mind of that game, but of course it wasn't a big deal because it happened to us :(

Actually, Arsenal had lost to United the week before - resulting in Pizza flinging. But it did preserve their unbeaten home record. It should have been 3-1 as Kenton was through on goal in injury time and was chopped down from behind by Cygan. It was a red card and Delap penalty for his hat trick, only the referee saw nothing. To cap it all, he allowed play to continue long enough for Arsenal to come close to getting a winner.

Reading all this reminds me of the day we got Hoddle his P45 at Spurs when we won 3-1 and were immense that day

I think that was my fave away game although seeing us beat Liverpool 3-2 away was special. An honorary mention to a 1-0 win at Newcastle and 4-1 win at Wolves also.

Before they got rich there were a couple of wins at Chelsea. I remember a midweek 2-0 to Saints, MLT got at least one. I was aslo at Anfield for the 3-2 (funny, I always remember it as 3-1!) and there was a fellow sitting next to me with his girlfriend. She came from Southampton but he was originally from Liverpool and he was telling here how he used to go as a kid and stand on the Kop and what a great club it was and all that stuff. When our third went in he got up in disgust and dragged her out. As she went past she whispered to me "actually I was quite enjoying it".

Wern't we the first team to ever win a league game at Old Trafford by penalty shoot out?

This is going back 10 years ago or so.

Er, there aren't penalty shoot outs in regular league games. At that time Ivan Golac was one of my neighbours and he didn't have Sky so he came over and watched the game at my place.

I was there - what a game

Remember Stuart Gray :p & Shearer putting us 2 nil with but Man Utd equalised with last kick of game (where have I heard that before) after Micky Adams f**ked up.

Always remember Giggs strolling up for his pen, so ****-sure doing keepy uppies from the centre circle .... Timmy saved the pen & then legged it the length of the pitch. :D

I think next round was against Bolton & Barry Horne's wonder goal.

I recall that Giggs hit the bar.

I also recall that we had the Norwich game in the bag, but then needed a replay, Matty and Horne were sent off and we held on for 119+ minutes until Goss scored a fluke header.

I could be making this up, but in 2002 we're we 1-1 at OT going into the final minutes, then we had a stone-wall penalty turned down. Then Forlan scored a screamer in injury time and was running around for a bit with his shirt off because he couldn't get it back on in time for the restart.

Then there was the 3-2 defeat the year after when Van Horse scored the winner from a clearly offside possition.

Can't remember the year but Neil Shipperley also had a perfectly good headed goal ruled out for "pushing" in a cup game at OT.
