spyinthesky Posted 2 October, 2009 Share Posted 2 October, 2009 Does he still go to SMS? He was high profile for the Ajax game but seems to have gone to ground since Some suggestion he and Lawrie were upset at being asked to pay for tickets. Can't honestly see this upsetting Crouch as he appears to have supported the club big style in the past. Understand the 'new broom' concept but, for all his sins, the bloke was a keen Saints supporter and was always willing to put his hand in his pocket

Why I guess some people will ask? a) Contributed to us nearly getting out of business b) Paying pinnacles fee instead of the possible investors, therefore holding up the Swiss/German guys and putting the future of the club at risk. Fair play his heart has always been in the right place but needed to think things through.

Nineteen Canteen Posted 2 October, 2009 Share Posted 2 October, 2009 hope he still supports, if not up to him - things have moved on Agreed, beyond that Idon't really care as IMO although he gave much it was with an agenda beyond simply keeping the club going. He paid and lost on this occassion and whether he attends or not does not bother me one iota. Same as McMenemy whose refusal to attend because he is upset at having to buy a ticket says more about himself than he could ever fill a book with, IMO. Why dont you pick on all the people that have been major players in the clubs success over the years. Le tiss kept us up for about ten years and my best days watching fottball were under him. Lawrie had the best saints team ever and won our only trophy. Crouch bailed us out of trouble out of his own pocket. To be completely frank, how a cretin like you is allowed to be on this forum is beyond me and youre obviously not a saints fan.
Colinjb Posted 2 October, 2009 Share Posted 2 October, 2009 Isn't he involved with Eastleigh now? Hope he does still attend, despite everything over the last few years I still feel he was the only one who really had the club's best interests at heart ahead of his own. dubai_phil Posted 2 October, 2009 Share Posted 2 October, 2009 Here you go, this is rare, DP takes a strong stand on something. Leon may or may not have done something to help us survive during admin. WHEN somebody can show me proof that what he did had NO STRINGS ATTACHED then maybe I will change my stance. Otherwise, Leon Crouch was a disaster for this club. What ever his motivation, he decided to side with Mike Wilde, and between them, the PAIR of them FAILED to rid the club of Rupert Lowe. For whatever reason, they left the door open that let him back in with his magical plan. Maybe he could have sided with Rupert and used his position to temper his weird excesses, but oh no he nailed his colours to the Let's go Wilde mast, so for THAT alone he FAILED this club Sorry, when the history of SFC is written in 20 years time, he holds as much blame for the loss of our CCC status as anyone else. I for one am happy he is consigned to the history books UNLESS he spends his money on tickets each week like everyone else. His media management was atrocious and his Churchillian speeches were an embarrassment. He may be a nice bloke but he is history. Long Live Markus oh and yes I am jet lagged and hissed off

Long Live Markus oh and yes I am jet lagged and hissed off He made a mistake in backing Wilde, but he was not the only one who fell for his bull****, IF he backed the Pinnacle group he made another mistake there too. He also made Churchillian speeches, which may have been misguided. But he is a Saints fan who tried to help, he always had the clubs best interests at heart and unlike many other, he put his money where his mouth is. For that reason he will always be popular with the people of Southampton.

Sergei Gotsmanov Posted 3 October, 2009 Share Posted 3 October, 2009 He kept the club going when we would have gone out of business. He sorted the Ted Bates statue out. His company sponsored just about everything apart from the shirts. He was guilty of not seeing through Wilde but he was not alone there. People should acknowledge his contribution. saintfully Posted 3 October, 2009 Share Posted 3 October, 2009 Dunno if Crouch still goes but hope he does. greg_hill Posted 3 October, 2009 Share Posted 3 October, 2009 He paid towards the correction of the Ted Bates statue of his own accord. It seems very likely he paid to keep us alive in the dark season. He has always been a fan and always spoken and behaved like a fan. And some people hate him for making a mistake that Matty and many others also made at the time. It never ceases to amaze me how harsh some fans are. adelfas31 Posted 3 October, 2009 Share Posted 3 October, 2009 Well said Greg Hill. Crouch made mistakes in the Lowe/Wilde debacle and paid dearly for them from his own pocket. But still he put his hand in his own pocket again to keep the club alive when things were dire. He may then have made further mistakes in getting involved with Pinnacle and paid for that too. So, he made mistakes but despite the personal cost, he kept sticking his head above the parapet, because he had his heart in the right place as a true supporter of the club. Give me someone like that any day over people who talk a good game but who never put their neck on the block and then say, 'I never made a mistake'.
