Hartlepool Build Up Thread

Can't see another thread on the build up of tomorrow night's match so here goes. (I know there's one about actually making the trip, but it's not majorly about the match itself)

In my opinion Pardew has a few things to think about - Lambert seems to be still recovering from his illness, and looked 'out of sorts' on Saturday, not completing 90 minutes. Murty made his comeback from a long-term injury, which is great, but will he be match fit for a start tomorrow? Can Pardew finally drop Lloyd James from the right back position?

I'm not sure whether we should go with the 4-4-2 or the 4-5-1... It is hotly debated but for a trip to Hartlepool I'm not sure which would be more effective, especially as you look at the potential fitness problems of Lambert and Murty et al.

Anyone got ideas on a line up or formation?

I think it's going to be a tough game, but I think we could edge it 2-1.

I'm looking forward to making the trip ooop North, and top effort to everyone else going up. Hopefully those not going can watch it on some Eastern European match streaming website, if not there's always Radio Solent...

We will lose.

Ever the optimist Rich... :D

I think we will bounce back though. When we lost to Brizzle on the Tuesday we came back and beat Gillingham 4-1 on the Saturday, the team has a fairly good mentality and despite all the doom and gloom on here because we've lost one game in nine (in all comps.) they should have fairly good morale too. As I said I feel it is going to be a very tight and a very tough game, but I honestly feel we can win it.

Look at our team we started against Swindon:

KD, James, Thomas, Lancashire, Harding, Mellis, Schneiderlin, Lallana, Paterson, Lambert.

There's no Jaidi, Trotman, Connelly etc.. We had Lancashire at CB! Players that are now integral to our team weren't even at the club on that day. And don't forget that the bunch of players that no-one has heard of are 9th in the League and are doing alright.

Perhaps their striker wont play which is good news

He's only scored one goal this season ffs.

I think we should rest Lambert, Kelvin, Lloyd, Connolly and a few others and play some of the reserves who have done well recently, like in-form Paterson and Saga (who although not in AP's long term plans needs to perform well for his own career and our transfer fee, and will do the job well. ( We do currently have eight games in four weeks and must rest some of our key players when we can to get the best out of them when it matters.)

Bart

Murty - Thomas - Perry - Mills

Wotton

Waigo - Saga - Mellis - Holmes

Paterson

Subs: Davies, Jaidi, Harding, Lambert, Hammond, Antonio, Lloyd

If wotton's fit I'd definitely play 4-5-1 as it seems to suit us a lot better, and in my opinion switching to 4-4-2 later in the match has much more of an impact, especially when you can bring players like Conolly and waig0/antonio off the bench. Saying that, it's a tough call to drop Conolly after recent performances and his goal on Saturday. And it seems to me that Pardew wants to make 4-4-2 work, or else he would probably have dropped it after the Brighton game. Also, I doubt Murty will start.

I'm absolutely gutted to be missing my first away game in 2 years, so cheer them on for me lads.

So do you reckon this league game matters more than the cup game on/Saturday? I'd be playing to win tomorrow and resting players for a cup which we unltimately have very little chance of winning.

I'm with you on this - rest for the cup not the league.

Assuming Murty's fit I'd have him in at right back in a 4-5-1, I'm tempted to drop Morgan as he had a shocker on Saturday and Lambert who seems out of sorts. Waigo in for Antonio on the right since I think he just works better there when we're 4-5-2

                   Davis
Murty Trotman Jaidi Harding
                  Wotton
        Hammond James
Wago Lallana
                  Connolly

Subs: Bart, Lambert, Antonio, Thomas, Mills

Cheers WG.

Ive had teo of my party moaning that the game will be called off!!

It looks to me like rain later in the morning with some clear skies in the afternoon. I think that there's quite a bit of rain coming from the west later during the night.

They've got better info about our team selection up there than we do:

Another big game. Real test of whether our players are up for a long difficult trip mid-week. Need a win to get back in business, no reason we can't win it, but I have a feeling it's another draw.

Hour approximately in the air Mon, hotel Mon and Tuesday nights, fly back Wed hardly a long difficult trip for the staff. It's the supporters that have the long difficult trip.

Are you insane?

This is a league game and you are putting out a very weakened side, dropping alot of key players. Saga in central midfield ffs says it all about what you know ;) :D

Who is this "Davies" and "Lloyd" on the bench?

I believe we will get a hard thought draw and that in itself will be classed as a decent result. The team looked 'all out' to me on Saturday and with little time to recover plus the journey - I suppose they will fly up - but still a lot going on in the space of 3 days and illness if a virus aren't kicked off easily.

I agree it will be a very tight game and a 2-1 win to Saints would be a massive achievement with the draw not looking a shoe in.

My only point is bounce back from what? A draw against the most inform team in the league having gifted them two goals? I actually believe we are still on the roll but we can't win every game and we need to look after the principal players and not play them in cup games. A jaded Lambert is about as effective as a fit Saganowski and Connolly looks like we are playing with a rare piece of lalique, expensive, classy but very fragile.

I thought that Derry but you do have the hanging around at the Airport and the need to pack and stuff - it all adds to the stress for want of a better word. It does disrupt the routines and hanging around a hotel lounge on Tuesday after I presume some training session somewhere will sap the will a bit. A while back I saw the Stoke team staying in a Hilton and when we arrived mid afternoon on a Friday they were all collapsed in the lounge looking really fed up - mind you that's Pulis for you.

The journey time is going to be lot less and alot less arduous for our hardy fans taking the trip but the chnage in their pre match routines I don't think will help us. That said i still think we will earn a decent draw in teh circumstances and we may nick it but so might they.

I do hope the poor souls don't get squashed into economy class on the flight up, after all it's only fit for us masses, not real footballers as the injury to Lampard showed.

I think Lambert with his virus and Hammond seeming to have gone off the boil since he took a supposed knock at Brizzle shows that while we have a great team, the "squad" is still very thin and we are possibly pushing players too hard who may need a break to get back to 100% rather than "recovering" or "carrying knocks".

A point will be a good result if those two are still less than 100%, not acceptable of course, but good

Personally, I think it's disgusting that we have to travel to some god foresaken northern sh*t-hole on a Tuesday night.

I'm going to send an e-mail to Lord Mawhinney and demand the game be switched to St. Marys.

Eight nil to the Saints.

I think you'll find Heartlepool is a beautiful, picturesque and historic town, certainly far more beautiful than Southampton and with a far prouder history. Try living in the real world, idiot.

4-2 to the 'pool

I do live in the real world. A world in which you can do heroin in my restaurant. They hang simians in that backward northern toss-hole.

I am thinking that unless we go 4-5-1 I can see us getting hammered there. If Pardew decides to stick with 4-4-2 I think we will lose 4-0. If we go 4-5-1 I can forsee a 4-3 vicory for us. I would drop Lambert ot the bench and put Connerly up front on his own with Papa Waygo on the right and Molyneux on the the left. Wooton in the middle with Spiderman. I would make Kelvin Davies captain again, for his strength and stability.

COYR!!

I agree with you about the formation but to drop Lamburt is madness. Ok he hasn't been outstanding in the last couple of games but drop him? No way.

I think if fit him and Conerly need to play some part in every game if fit.

You say Wiago on the right? Would you drop Antoneo for him then or have both in the team?

Some people must be seriously ****ed up tonight I mean Paterson up front on his own. Bartosz replacing Kelvin FFS he makes a couple of mistakes still the best keeper in the league. And questioning Lambert with regards to that lazy bastard that is Saga the pole since he actually got his contract has scored approximately one goal. And as for bouncing back don't make me laugh, we played the 2nd best team in the league on Saturday. IMO they were better than us and we got a decent draw which could be crucial come May. Looking forward to 7 tomo morning and setting out and I reckon we will win 2-1 I think
