Fergie Posted 10 January, 2010 Share Posted 10 January, 2010 Had a random thought this morning...Fabian Delph!? Hasn't done anything at all at Villa other than a couple appearances and playing in their reserves. Might not be a permanent one but on loan perhaps!? He did say 'a player not doing so well elsewhere' or something along those lines, and Delph fits perfect! And do say he wouldn't come to us because i think were proving just about any on in the CCC would sign for us right now. "the saints are going up, the saints are going up, iiii oooo away we go...." saints-cris Posted 10 January, 2010 Share Posted 10 January, 2010 I really couldn't see that, bu only on the basis he's only recently gone there. Fits the bill for Ward perhaps ?

Weston Saint Posted 10 January, 2010 Share Posted 10 January, 2010 We might be able to sign players from the CCC with Premier capabilities but unlikely to make enquiries for any players already signed for Premier sides. That will come when we are in the CCC. Would think the player is Elliott Ward who did not even make the bench for Coventry yesterday and Coventry have already confirmed on Friday we have made an approach but no firm bid at that stage. Fergie Posted 10 January, 2010 Author Share Posted 10 January, 2010 Or, just on another note, was chatting to a mate about this desperately trying to think of good players it could be...and maybe David Healy??? getting on a little now (in footballing terms), will wants regular football, just a possibility!? We defo need a nother striker and pards knows this. why buy another centre-back when we got jaidi, fonte, thomas and perry who all cut it in this league. Think the money could be spent else where to score more goals...

Saint Fan CaM Posted 10 January, 2010 Share Posted 10 January, 2010 I really do not think it's Ward for one reason - we don't need another CB at this level and AP said nothing on Solent that indicated we were in for another CB. I reckon the Ward interest was in case they didn't get the Fonte deal sorted. Who else it might be I have no idea (apart from Stock? He has been injured and therefore not featured so much). JibMcdo Posted 10 January, 2010 Share Posted 10 January, 2010 Scott Arfield imo. Extracts taken from 606 - http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A61581008 "If Southampton come back with 500k then will the board look at it given the way he has been playing this season?" "Disappointing form this season, few goals....his value has reduced quite a bit. I think it was realistic to expect £800k for him in the close season but not now." "If Southampton were to come in for Arfield for arounf 4-500k I think the club should accept it. I think based on his performances this season his development is slowing down playing in Scotland and it would be a good deal for the club." "He was brilliant when he first burst onto the scene but then the quality of players we had then were better than what we have now, that said he got into double figures goal wise last year in a struggling team although most of them were penalties, he has been very disappointing this year, he has gone stale or he may just be believing his own hype, either way i think he would benefit from a move, his form a few season's back would probably have cost you 750k-1m but i think you could get him for 500k now." And we are linked with him here - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/scot_prem/8447755.stm "Southampton have made a £300,000 offer to Falkirk for midfielder Scott Arfield. (The Sun)" Or it could be Ward...

david in sweden Posted 10 January, 2010 Share Posted 10 January, 2010 Pericard has been doing well at Carlise - so much so that they offered him a new deal, so it can't be him. It's Ward. I think it is Ward, same wording used by Coleman and Pardew, and Pericard is on a loan deal that runs out next week, so he's free to move then, and Carlisle are unable to keep him. Ashley Grute Posted 10 January, 2010 Share Posted 10 January, 2010 Reo- Coker on loan is my guess! Sounds way too big, but Pards is aiming high! He is out of favour at AV, only played 8 games this season and Pards has already enquired about him!
Clifford Nelson Posted 10 January, 2010 Share Posted 10 January, 2010 (edited) It clearly must have been Ward. The only question is whether we were seriously after both him and Fonte, or if he was back-up in case Fonte turned us down. I'm leaning towards us wanting both. Ward will be gone in the summer on a free, so why not get him now on a nominal fee. He'll soon be able to sign a pre-contract agreement anyway. Thomas is unfancied and I can't see Perry given another contract. That leaves us with only Jaidi in the summer, unless we count Ollie Lancashire. To compete in the CCC we need three good centrebacks for next season. Edited 10 January, 2010 by Clifford Nelson

SaintRobbie Posted 11 January, 2010 Share Posted 11 January, 2010 Could be anyone to be honest! A player not doing as well as he could be... could be any player not on the bench and/or playing regularly at CCC or Premiership level. Nice to see our signings and targets are Prem/CCC players though. A refreshing air of ambition is back in this club. This club is back.

CanadaSaint Posted 11 January, 2010 Share Posted 11 January, 2010 Given that much has been made of Herr Liebherr's spirituality, which Cortese and Pardew will certainly know about, I suspect that I have more chance of being signed for the promotion push than Ben Thatcher or Joey Barton.
