CB Fry Posted 26 January, 2010 Share Posted 26 January, 2010 If you're someone who has decided that the aim of the season is to avoid relegation then it's not the end of the world. But if you think we are buying centre backs for £1.5m in League One to get into the play offs this season, this is a very disappointing result and leaves us with a hell of a lot to do to achieve that aim. To get into the top six we need championship winning form, and that isn't drawing away at Brentford, regardless of their recent form. If we wanted to win the league that's what we'd need to do. And effectively, form-wise we need to win the league to get into the play offs now.
S-Clarke Posted 26 January, 2010 Share Posted 26 January, 2010 we're still unbeaten in 2010 before anyone grabs the razor blades, and i make it 2 decent points away at 2 tough grounds this season (millwall and brentford) a decent home game next against stockport to get a win under our belts. petts Posted 26 January, 2010 Share Posted 26 January, 2010 To be expected really, a defensive partnership getting used to each other and a new forward partnership, so considering this it is a good away point. Hopefully things will start to gel by next game and we'll still win the 15 we need.

SaintBobby Posted 26 January, 2010 Share Posted 26 January, 2010 Disappointing result and (by the sound of the Solent commentary) a pretty shabby second half performance. But I agree that it's not the end of the world. Leeds lost 3-0 at Swindon (having also been beaten in their last league game by Exeter). Charlton lost at home to Leyton Orient last night. Norwich only just scraped a win at Carlisle. But those three are probably going up - and 2 of them in the auto places. Funny old game etc. I still think the play-offs are just achievable. Although the cups - much as I love them - are now getting in the way. I think there's a 75% chance we'll still be in League One next season. But in 2010-11, I really, honestly do beleive we'll walk this league! I do worry about those who say we should be making the play-offs. Not because I don't admire their ambition, but because it seems the term "play-off" is getting conflated with "promotion". Even if we make the play-offs, we probably won't be promoted. I'll settle for: 1. Winning the JPT in March 2. Beating the skates on Feb 13th 3. Finishing 8th or 9th this season 4. Winning League One with 100 points next year. I also think that's what I'm going to get.

Whitey Grandad Posted 26 January, 2010 Share Posted 26 January, 2010 You can't buy instant results. I would expect 6 to 10 games with a settled side before we start to win consistently. Playoffs this season have always been a remote possibility, but we need another month of results before we can start giving up hope.

Kingsland Red Posted 26 January, 2010 Share Posted 26 January, 2010 Realistically the only play off place we're chasing is the 6th one currently occupied by Millwall 13 points ahead of us.The five teams above that are all on good form showing no signs of flagging. I reckon a point away and three at home, ie 4 out of every 6 is good enough, hence joining this thread !
