That maybe the reason he plays Seabourne and Antonio Murty is just not fit enough at the moment
Andy_Porter Posted 31 January, 2010 Share Posted 31 January, 2010 Agree with your side TDD. I'd maybe put James in for Murty, Murty is the better defender and offers alot of experience but James offers a lot more going forward and despite what some people think he's dead balls are decent. RB is probably the one position we need to really strengthen in the summer. We should stay with 4-5-1 and use the 4-4-2 for the last 20 mins when teams are getting tired. We used are gameplan to great effect like that against Orient and Oldham, we should never have stopped playing 4-5-1, hopefully now Puncheon is here we will go back to it more often. Wouldn't mind seeing us play a 4-4-2 with Lallana in the centre of midfield when we're chasing a game, I don't think Pardew would ever try that though. Tartarus112 Posted 31 January, 2010 Share Posted 31 January, 2010 That's a very defensive team if you think about it though. Murty and Harding dont really get forward that much and Hammond and Schneiderlin are acting as defensive midfielders. Only leaves 4 players to attack. With Saints going for the play-off's this might not get us the wins we need. My personal Preference would be the a 4-4-2 with mills and Otsemabor instead at full back and a few other changes. Bart Otsemabor Fonte Seabourne Mills Puncheon Hammond Schneiderlin Holmes Waigo Lambert I know i've left Lallana out but in my mind he doesn't do enough for the team to deserve a place in our first 11 atm. He has the talent but is out of form. Also i'm not sure how good Puncheon is on the wing but we he sounds like he might play well there. Bart over Davis because Bart has better distribution which benefits this team. Oh and Davis looks unfit to me atm.
SnailOB Posted 31 January, 2010 Share Posted 31 January, 2010 a fit Murty at RB for me every time. From what we've seen so far he reads game well and has an experienced head and talks to those around him which appears to help. Wide midfield and up front i'm not 100% sure CB pairing - difficult as not seen enough of Seabourne to make proper judgement. Would probably go for 442 Davis Murty Fonte Jaidi Harding Lallana Hammond Spiderman Puncheon (based on each time i've seen him against us for MKD) Lambert Barnard (He has missed a couple of chances but from what i've seen I have faith that he will start scoring) Problem could then come with pace but still feel that likes of Antonio / Waigo better as impact subs once we have tired out opposition All in IMHO of course

derry Posted 31 January, 2010 Share Posted 31 January, 2010 (edited) I'd like to see us give this 4-3-3 a try. Passing the ball out wide. Davis Murty/Thomas/Otsemobor Fonte Seaborne/Jaidi/Perry Harding/Mills Hammond Schneiderlin (one holding the other getting forward ) Lambert in front of middle two onto the edge of the box. (Lallana, Barnard, Connolly for alternatives) Antonio wide Waigo Puncheon wide Lots of pace up front. Edited 31 January, 2010 by derry

samoakley Posted 31 January, 2010 Share Posted 31 January, 2010 I think we have so many good players and a big squad with a few injury prone players ie murty holmes, we then have players who cant play 3 times a week like jihadi perry thomas, then the players who cant performe at there best every week like mills wagio and maybe James and MS, then theres those who cant play in the ldv or fa cup, so everyone is there to play in certain games and game plans with 15 plus league games left, i think hes going to rotate the team the only players who will play when fit all the time they can are Davis Fonte Harding Hammond Lallana Lambert. Agree that this is the spine of the team, and pretty much agree with everything you have written. we can pretty much now play any formation we want as we have so much strength in depth. Personally I prefer something like a 4,5,1 or even give a 3,5,2 a go, using maybe fish and james as your wing backs, with lallana given a free role, but the question for me is now does AP know his best eleven? also we have so much choice is now a case that we will confuse ourselves?? The last three or four games have certainly seen a dip in the form we were hitting before the Christmas but it coincides with practically having a new side playing together, which then takes time to gel..... I think it would end up a combination of the these two teams depending on who is fit and who we play Antonio Waigo & Connolly are all very good impact subs so maybe he will start with Barnard.
