This is NOT a 'Pardew out' thread but...

...would anyone be surprised if Cortese acts as ruthlessly as his reputation and asks Pardew to leave before the end of the season if we fall well short of the playoffs?

As I say, read the question I'm posing, not between the lines please.

"Would you be surprised?" is the question. Yes or no?

No, but I think it would be more likely next season if we were in the same position.

5 years is quite long-term by modern standards.

Towards end of year 1 seems an ideal time to take stock and make necessary adjustments.

Exactly.

Let's re open this thread in May.

In the mean time, could all the trolls go back to scaring billy goats.

Yes I would be surprised.

The plan is a 5 year plan.

Get a grip

i don't think the plan is to have AP for the 5 years though, in a wonderful world it would work like that - but i see us going through 1 or even 2 more managers before the end of those 5 years.

It's the way of football these days. AP will not have an excuse next season - automatic or bust.

Yes - he's ruthless but he is not stupid. Whatever pronouncements may have been made the playoffs were always a long shot. I think that next year will be the determining time.

Really....what will you and your posse moan about if he does?

yes....well done

when people were "underwhelmed" by his appointment and thought he had the skills to get us into the top 2..I was laughed at way back when...

dont tell me..you were not one of them and you worshiped pardew when he was appointed

Moan, moan ****ing moan, even if we were top of the league, some of you would find something to whinge about. Wasn't even expecting the play-offs this season personally so not too bothered, next season however is totally different - we have to aim for automatic promotion.

I simply thought he was a good appointment and still do, probably the best

manager we could have hoped for in league one

I bet he knows that. Wouldnt be surprised if he accepts an offer from the CCC over the summer, knowing he aint up to the challenge here.

don't think he's like that.

he's a very stubborn manager - he'll want to give it a shot either way. Hope it works out.

The season is over. If AP went tomorrow it gives a new guy time to prepare for next season.

AP has not delivered.

The season is far from over, butthe focus now is obviously the cupcompetitions.

I think this season is probably really what we expected after starting on -10 and needing to rebuild. That said, with the squad and money at his disposal we should be doing better in the league.

As for preparing for next season,I suspect AP is trying to assemble that squad, and NC has perhaps recognised that with longer term signings of Seaborn and Puncheon rather than short term fixes.

Would a CCC club offer and better and more stable basefor him ? Can't think of many clubsthat will.

As for us,there are not many contenders who would offer us a better long term solution to AP.*

(*Tisdale perhaps?)

I really couldn't say whether I'd be surprised or not. I just have no idea about whether the top management really took the play-offs as a serious target this season . If (and only if) Pardew obtained funds for the 5 new players signed this window on the pretence that we would make the play-offs,then I could see NC giving him the shove if we don't make them..which we won't.

I will stick by what I have said from day one, pardew will not be here next season......it is probably wrong but I still believe there is a very good chance it will be right.

Pardew has done a lot better than I expected if I'm honest and he has made some cracking signings but I fear he will be a victim of over expectation because of that.

the results have been average tbh and this week could make or break our season, lose to mk dons and Pompey and the season is virtually over as I can't see us getting enough points to make the play offs, come next Monday we could be making plans for next season and there is a good possibility this may not include pardew.
