Pardew's proud reaction (OS)

I hope the huge chants of "one Alan Pardew" was heard by Cortese.

I'm sure he did. But what I don't want is anything to damage the united status the club has. We don't want a hint of the manager being played off against the owner and exec Chairman. They are ALL important, ALL responsible, and ALL deserving of our praise.

One marcus lieberr aswell? Cortese was dead right imo. They put the money in, our league form should be better and it was clear we tried 100 times harder tonight than exeter, which is disturbing.

I agree, but if Pardew leaves in the summer it will be ridiculous IMO and I will get the faintest hint of worry about us "doing a QPR" so to speak.

Thing is, like satchel face Redkn*pp, Pards has lot of mates in the ex-pro fraternity - most of them are bigoted alcoholics who would have never cut it in the modern game but don't under-estimate the influence their little Sky cabal wields. The coverage and goodwill we're enjoying is partly down to sympathy for Pards; we'd just as easily lose it if Pards was unceremoniously dumped.

Be interesting if we get a good result on Saturday and then lose honourably at fortress Carrow Road. What will Cortese do for Pardews p1ss poor failure at bringing back 3 pts from that game?

Pardew's programme notes made very interesting reading tonight and it seems it has been clear in his mind from the start that the league was not realistic given the points penalty and it was his decision to focus on the knockout cups instead.

Now that has been apparent to those of us who have been wanting him to rest key players in cup games when he has continued to field his best side. Surprising then that given Cortese's league ambitions he hasn't cottoned on to this fact or discussed it with Pardew. Makes me wonder when Pardew and Cortese will get around to agreeing the correct approach to this season.

One thing is absolutely certain IMO is that the last thing we need is a change in any management personnel upstairs or down but I remain very concerned about the sudden urgency from Cortese about the league when I was under the impression promotion from this league wasn't being considered an objective until next season. What has changed?

Is Cortese and Mr Liebherr in it for the long haul or do they see an opportunity for a 3 year rise to the Premiership and a chance to realise a significant return on their investment leaving us open again to charlatans and LBOs?

agree with most of this 19C. I do however think that ML and NC are in it for the long haul

Think this picture shows how proud the owner and chairman are about things at the moment. Like parents watching their kid in the school play.

Also not sure about what Lallana and Waigo are doing on the pic before that. Captions i think.

You mean this photo?

AP is set to become our next hero like McMenemy and Bates before him. All it takes is a little bit of steel from our owner and his Chairman - let's hope they have the stomach for the fight, because this is a very hard league to get out of - almost impossible starting from -10pts and yet Pardew is making a real go of it AND has got us to Wembley with just 90 minutes seperating us from the first silverware for over 30 years. And that 6 months after the club was facing oblivion.

In short he is doing a remarkable job in a short amount of time. To say he is not on the verge of significant achievements would be a gross underestimation IMO. It would be an incredible change of heart, tactics, policy, culture - you name it - to see AP not being backed all the way.

Agreed, many times over.

I actually think NCs remarks were aimed at the players rather than AP anyway.

The seemingly current change of attitude at the top is a worry. I am hoping it has happened because the CEO doesn't want to be seen by fans as being another Lowe. HIs commenst were ill judged and ill timed but at least he didn't manage to knock us out of our stride for this very important game. The last time an exec made an announcement from upon high (Hone) that signalled the start of our demise. Let the maager and his team do the talking and say anything you need to behind close doors.

Still, it is a time to be happy and at least the Moaning Minnies will have to keep quiet until we draw another football match!

It took an age to get out of the ground last night but I noticed how long ML stood there after the final whistle. He was clearly just revelling in the atmosphere and sharing the fans joy.

It was a special, special night. For me, hearing the 'We're the famous Southampton and we're going to Wemberley' brought back some wonderful memories of 1979 v Forest.

I could not agree more with this.

Pards is very capable, positive but also realistic and does not shirk a challenge- But even these qualities will not quite be enough to push us into the play offs this season. Additionally who would have considered at the start of the season the form of some teams like Swindon either!

I said at the start of the season that I thought we would just miss the play-offs but would be happy with a Wembley shot at the JPT and I stand by that.

How hillarious is this post ?

80% of it is a moaning dig, the rest is lecturing others for monaning.

Typical when the rest of us are enjoying the moment that you have a dig.

Stop reading Cortese out of context. Did you hear him say anything different to AP?

This is a united club going to Wembley. All pushing in the same direction.

If we win our next 8 league cames then the play off's are very possible.

This can happen. Momentum can build. Who knows until the fat lady sings.

We have a very outside chance of getting to the play off's, but we still have a chance.

Couldn't agree more and as SOG mentions it make's Cortese's comments all the more surprising and ill-advised and poorly timed regardless of who they were directed at. Wanting 3pts away to Wycombe on the 23rd Feb is one thing but Norwich on the 20th Feb?! A draw in that game would be an immense result even without the extra pressure now heaped on the team courtesy of the demands of our CEO.

Andy I hate to disappoint you but we will NOT win our next 8 league games but have a very decent chance of winning 5. Norwich (a), Leeds (h) and an in form Swindon (h) are not exactly win bankers. However, we do have a relatively easy run in with only Charlton in our last 10 games likely to challenge us in starting the game as comfortable favourites.

We have an outside chance but no need to start heaping pressure where it is not required or appropriately targetted IMO.
