Saint_clark Posted 26 March, 2010 Share Posted 26 March, 2010 I'm sorry, but this interview is on Saintsplayer in full. This quote here; "Will winning the JP Trophy and not reaching the play-offs be enough to keep the board happy? I cannot answer that question. All I can say is my staff have done an incredible job, as have the players. It was a big decision to step down into League One. I have to stay a few times I have wondered if I made the right decision, like standing on the touchline at Swindon when we lost 1-0." Is COMPLETELY fabricated. St Landrew Posted 26 March, 2010 Share Posted 26 March, 2010 It started off with the columnist's own opinion, and then in the second half actually started reporting the interview. In a sense he is both right and wrong, at the same time. Us fans are just like Cortese. We are impatient, but we will wait the required time. And so, I believe, will Cortese. And this is where the Man from the Mirror doesn't get it.

Eaststander Posted 27 March, 2010 Share Posted 27 March, 2010 Lazy journalism, plagiarising at best, but just copy and paste really. This guy might as well write the sports column for the Beano, it is just a joke. Taking longer interviews, cutting them down because they don't really have the column inches to cover the story properly means the full context is lost. We all know the situation, the investment, the commitment form all parties, and how success is being measured. I get the impression that NC and AP are damned if they do and damned if the don't. Whatever they say will just be spun into a story either to praise a fresh approach to football business management, and the running a sound company. Or from a traditionalist perspective to have a go a NC because he is the new boy on the block, and they don't really understand his business savvy professional approach. Saint Fan CaM Posted 27 March, 2010 Share Posted 27 March, 2010 Interesting. Perhaps the OS censored the part the Mirror have stated? I don't find the article particularly offensive - let's face it, something must be going right for Saints to be given ANY column inches!
Eaststander Posted 27 March, 2010 Share Posted 27 March, 2010 why would the OS censor it's own story!!! this journo hasn't left his desk to write this, and probably couldn't name our starting 11 from Tuesday night, or even who we played.
Fowllyd Posted 27 March, 2010 Share Posted 27 March, 2010 In what sense exactly did Walters 'meet' Alan Pardew, as claimed in the title? It's crystal clear from what follows that he didn't even speak to AP, let alone come face to face with him. Never trust a man with a face like an arse turned sideways. Torrent Of Abuse Posted 27 March, 2010 Share Posted 27 March, 2010 Perhaps if that's the quality of journalismat 'The Mirror', they should let Peter Storrie ghost write all their articles: not just the Pompey ones.

Wes Tender Posted 27 March, 2010 Share Posted 27 March, 2010 It really is difficult to know from what perspective these Red Top rags are approaching this. The Times wrote a very fair and balanced piece and perhaps these two tawdry rags thought that therefore they ought to introduce a different perspective, although their sneering snide piece does them no credit at all. So what has happened here to arouse more than a fleeting mention of a team in the third division of British football? Well. of course there are several aspects of our current situation that have made us newsworthy. The number of clubs in British football who have a wealthier owner than us can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Furthermore, as far as I'm aware, there has never been an owner as wealthy in the third division. We have a manager who has recently managed in the Premiership and it is unusual that he has dropped not one but two divisions to come here. We have the best strike force in the division and several players who would not look out of place one or even two divisions higher. We are in a very exclusive club of those completely without debt and with a Foreign owner and chairman. It is obviously too much to ask that this pair of gutter press journos would hold us up as a model of how to run a club effectively, against the current climate, where even the top most fashionable clubs in the land are mired in massive debt and could implode at any time. In effect, we ought to be a non-story at least, if they did not desire to praise what we are doing right here. But one has to expect that because of who they are, there are undertones of xenophobia and petty jealousy rearing their ugly heads. They can predict that soon we will be moving up the divisions, threatening their darlings in the top division, but doing it the right way, sustainably, steadily, professionally. What a stupid remark to make that because Cortese's background is in banking and that because he has only been here a few months, he is somehow unqualified to comment on how the club, or indeed football is to be run. Is football not a business? What are the qualifications of these two hacks that justify their comment on business matters? And anyway, who cares what these idiots say? The people who really matter are the fans of this club and as far as I'm aware, the vast majority are perfectly content with where we are and where we are going. These idiots are writing in a national publication for the benefit of others interested in football, but frankly, it is only the fans of this club who have any right to feel either one way or the other about it. ponto1963 Posted 27 March, 2010 Share Posted 27 March, 2010 It looks as if he's taken this interview out of context. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2006044,00.html The Line ""With the help and constant backing I have had from Nicola, that will continue and I really hope we win this trophy as part of going up the graph." shows that they are working together not at odds. OldNick Posted 27 March, 2010 Share Posted 27 March, 2010 2 articles in a week. seems a bit of a power struggle going on. NC is likely to be the winner IMO as I doubt the fans are stupid enough to turn on the new owner, who has given NC the power to get things right. AP will be forgiven for not getting us to the play-offs this season but if he fails and we also have no silverware i suspect the pressure and focus will become intense on him

up and away Posted 27 March, 2010 Share Posted 27 March, 2010 So "Wally meets... Alan Pardew" in Tescos asking how this game rates with all the other big games he has been involved with?
