looking highly unlikely we will get a playoff spot..who would you fancy to join us from the CCC..?

peterbro' are down - will be a good team with gary johnson in charge

plymouth are almost down - will be half decent...picked up under mariner..

scunny - would struggle if they went down

palace - god knows, if they got a takeover, COULD be a tough opponent

QPR - if they go down, would be very hard to beat with warnock in charge

wednesday - will be ok and could attract decent players at league 1 level

watford - we always seem to farking struggle against that lot

hmmmmm

could be alot tougher than we thought next season..

IMO

I would hope plymouth and scunny join the posh

Interesting, I was just looking at the bottom of the Championship table for the same reason and thinking the opposite - ie there's no teams there that I think we wouldn't handle. QPR (on the off chance they get their acts together) and Palace are the toughest, but neither of them will get relegated so it's fine.

If Plymouth and Watford stay up but Sheff Wed and Palace go down, and Leeds don't go up into the CCC, there'll be quite a few big clubs in Div 3 next season, and getting in the top 2 would be arguably harder than this season.

I really do think we need Leeds to go up this season.

I would also like to see Millwall out of our division.

Agree about the big clubs in L1 next season.I don't think Sheff Weds will come down though. How much of an issue Palace are depends if they sort their finances out.Certainly P/boro with Gary Johnson in charge will be well organised.

We could also find ourselves facing a number of "local" matches where we are viewed as a big local scalp next season.Added this this years 'local' fixtures (Exeter,Yeovil,Gills[?],Brighton,Swindon,Bristol Rovers) we might also have Plymouth coming down, and the possibility of Bournemouth and even Aldershot coming up.

Imo it'll be P'boro, Scunny and Plymouth, as already said by numerous people on this thread. None of those teams should pose a huge threat to us, although we can't be complacent. The CCC will be strong with those teams gone, can't think of many more weak teams (disregarding financial irregularities) apart from Blackpool and Doncaster, but they're both having great seasons.

does it matter? With a pre-season behind us and a settled group of players, surely we will walk the league anyway ffs. But plymouth and palace i think

I agree with this.

I know "we will walk this league" is now an in-joke, but surely.....

Would be quite happy with the current bottom three of Posh, Plymouth and Sheff Wed. Posh already down. Plymouth are not exactly strong at present, you could argue that they have overachieved by getting to the CCC and that they are a "natural" League 1/Div 3 team. Wednesday look pretty run down at the moment, after 2 yrs+ management by the genius that is Brian Laws (according to Deloittes). Would also prefer Wednesday for purely selfish, geographical reasons. Think Palace would be stronger than Wednesday, once out of Admin. Watford are one of those annoying teams that we always struggle against, for no logical reason.

With the playoffs receding into the distance, we should also be taking a glance at League 2/Div 4: Currently we'd be playing the following next season:

Rochdale, Notts County and Bournemouth for definite. Currently only Rochdale look nailed on to come up, although County and Bournemouth are 9/6 points clear at present.

And then one of:

Rotherham, Aldershot, Chesterfield or Bury. However the following are only at worst 5 points away from 7th: Northampton, Port Vale, Morecambe and Dagenham/Redbridge.

On current form http://stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/D3/runin.html it's likely to be one of:

Northampton, Aldershot, Morecambe, Rotherham.

Personally I'd hope for Morecambe out of that lot - never been there, close to me, and Saints have *never* played them, although we haven't played most of the other playoff contenders in my lifetime, and i'm in my mid-forties. Think if the "Shots" come up, tickets would be very hard to come by, their ground only holds 1100 away fans.

Posh, Plymouth and Sheff Wed all have big money problems.....Like many others...

The Chairman at Posh is not as rich as first suggested and his ploy..Barry Fry more to the point... of continually spouting to the press and over valuing many of his players has back fired..They will struggle to get some on big wages off their wage bill..

Barry Fry will scouring the non league again....To be fair he used to be good at that..

Sheff Weds will likely have a very difficult season if they come down. £30 million in debt they'll either continue to carry that and as such have no money still, or they'll be forced into admin which would at least carry a 10 point penalty, and still doesn't garentee them money.

Peterbrough will be tough under Johnson, but beatable.

S****horpe are proving a bit yo yo so i'd expect the to be around the top 6. Beatable though.

Plymouth have picked up under Mariner and i wouldn't like to call how well they'll do. Doubt they'll run away with it but could be anywhere from automatic to mid table, IMO

Watford and Palace, really depends what happens financially.

Either way, assuming we keep all but the odd player, i think we should have the perfect platform to get through the whole season very well compared to any of that lot.

I think next season we will hopefully have wised up a bit.

It is never easy to get out of a league like this.

Hopefully AP will inject a bit more grit and pace

A good start is essential never our strongest attribute and then consistency

Oh well NC will give him to October I am sure

You mean Jaidi, Fonte, Hammond and Harding aren't gritty enough and Puncheon, Waigo, Antonio and Semi aren't pacey enough for you?

I haven't been to Peterboro, Plymouth and S****horpe so they'd all be good. QPR, Palace and Watford where all decent aways over the last few seasons so wouldn't be too unhappy with those either - Sheff Wed was a shocking game so would prefer not having to go there again.

In terms of who we would get the most points from next season I'd say Watford and Plymouth joining Peterboro.

If I had a choice it would be QPR as they've been controlled abysmally for the last couple of years & probably Watford, I hate Watford for that 7 goal nightmare in the milk cup & their standard of football. But I really think its about time that we just concentrated on Saints and let other teams worry about us.

In an ideal world, the Skates for their financial irregularities.

Yup - agreed - at some stage in the next few months they'll fail the next liquidity test (obviously) and be dropped two divisions from the Prem instead of just one :-)

And all their vaguely decent players scarper, of course....

And they have zero points after their first 10 games in League one....

Well, it was a great dream while it lasted
