Pardew's early season tactics?

I'd rather Saints came out of the traps on 7th August blowing caution to the wind with all guns blazing for the first handful of games rather than adopt a safety first approach.

However, I've got this gut feeling that Pardew may favour an 'avoid losing at all cost' approach which could result in more draws than wins in the early part of the season (and, yes, potentailly less defeats too)

All conjecture I know but, hey, it's an internet messageboard where people debate stuff and suchlike.

How would others rather see us play in the early games? All guns blazing from the off or safety first?

and probably will enter Septmeber still looking for our first win.

no chance, we will be top come the start of Sept, just too good for this league and i feel confident we are going to bring in some good players over the next couple of weeks.

I reckon the tactics will be pretty similar to the final 30 games of last season. I think that AP will have got the idea of at least two ways to play through to the squad by the start of the season so we can use 4-4-2 and our variation of 4-5-1 effectively when needed. Looking at the first four league matches I can see two wins and two draws. the opener against Plymouth is difficult to predict but I reckon we have a better than average chance against MK away and orient at home and should grab wins at both. Bristol Rovers away will be a test although we should be mentally string having wiped the floor with them last time we played there. September looks like a trickier month with trips to Swindon and Sheff Wed. If we can come out of Sept in the top three and within striking distance of the leaders then we'll be well set for the first half of the season.

I want to see us come out with the confidence and attacking verve of the German National Side - And get the show on the road quickly !

I would imagine NC would want the same too, so any safety first pussy footing from AP is likely to be as welcome as a rattlesnake in a lucky dip form the Leadership aswell as the fans !

i think we'll probably try to lose a few early on so we are playing catch up, then make sure Lambert, Fonte, Lallana and Schniderlin are injued by the end of October so we are without key players and go on a 15 match losing streak so Pardew can get himself sacked by christmas.

Forget our tactics for the first game or ten - what about the tactics for our first 20 mins of every game? I'd like to sign up some great big bruiser of a midfielder. Someone who says to Lallana, Puncheon and Schneiderlin not to worry - anyone comes near you and they'll pay for it. When we play Plymouth i want to concentrate on kicking lumps out of them - welcome to div 3. We know ourselves that it's easy to overlook passion and to go for talented players but we need to remember that we've got to fight for our right to play football. Most successful teams have a right nasty piece of work and we need one too. I've no idea who that might be but I think it would be the missing piece in the jigsaw.
