Kingsbridge Saint Posted 16 September, 2010 Share Posted 16 September, 2010 Just wanted to express my thoughts on the latest fatuous rallying call to appear on the OS. FFS just do it on the pitch. That is all.
alpine_saint Posted 16 September, 2010 Share Posted 16 September, 2010 I am willing to cut everyone some slack for a few matches until the respect and familiarity has grown, though I remain disappointed that we never get the new manager bounce. Chances are that he didnt say all this anyway, and its simply club spin. Also disappointing the see the return of the Meaningless Next-Day Platitudes that were so prevalent during the Burley era

broncoboy Posted 16 September, 2010 Share Posted 16 September, 2010 Another defeat another rallying call. Goodness knows how many times we have to put up with this nonsense. Surely even Saints marketing manager must cringe when they post. "Well |I dont know how that happened, the lads are determined, we can kick on from here, the team is right behind the manager, let the fans down etc etc FFS stop posting this nonsense

moon monkey Posted 16 September, 2010 Share Posted 16 September, 2010 I would prefer if footballers never gave interviews at all, they are so boring and robotic. They are educated in the way they speak to the media and we get no true feelings spoken. But it drives me nuts when they keep saying 'obviously.' Actually thought Morgan did ok last night, good to see him having a few shots as well and on target.- Agree he had three or four shots - probably more than all of last season. That volley that just whizzed just above the bar deserved better. One of the great imponderables is why he hasnt been encouraged to shoot more. As his cracker at Bristol and in the toulon tournamen. alas those moments for us are too few and far between as he consistently opts for the easy layoff. Saint Garrett Posted 16 September, 2010 Share Posted 16 September, 2010 I didn't go last night, but from what was said on the radio, it sounded like he was our best player last night ! Give the guy a break FFS, he's only 21! If he was as consistent as some people on here think he should be, theres no way that he would be playing at this level ! Isn't that what the Manager is supposed to influence? As in don't waste the ball pass instead of shooting? Seemed listening last night that he did have more pops than would have expected. Let's hope it's the first sign of not trying to pass the ball into the net
Northant Saint Posted 16 September, 2010 Share Posted 16 September, 2010 I feel Morgan is probably our best player at the moment on balance. If we didn't have him in the midfield, I think we would look a lot worse than we already are.

I had a thought this morning, when it's so great at our club 60,000 people want to watch us, when it's not so good people call for boycotts and continue to slat us fans that believe in hope that we will turn it around. That's why i love supporting Saints as they enjoy the roller coaster journey too much.

Dr Who? Posted 16 September, 2010 Share Posted 16 September, 2010 I think the whole team need a shake up, but will give it a few games to put right. He has great ability but everyone seems to have lost there way a little over the last few weeks. I am sure we will come good.
scott_saints Posted 16 September, 2010 Share Posted 16 September, 2010 If we didn't ever hear from any players, there would be uproar from the fans. Also, if we win .....people enjoy seeing what the players have to say even though it's the same drivel (albeit winning drivel- did it for the fans, it was a team effort etc) I f**king hate football fans I do. PokingFun Posted 16 September, 2010 Share Posted 16 September, 2010 I am willing to cut everyone some slack for a few matches until the respect and familiarity has grown, though I remain disappointed that we never get the new manager bounce. Chances are that he didnt say all this anyway, and its simply club spin. Also disappointing the see the return of the Meaningless Next-Day Platitudes that were so prevalent during the Burley era There is no new manager bounce,it is a myth. Some new managers win, some new managers lose, some new managers draw. This has been proved quite categorically and statistically by Kevin Pullein, a very well respected Racing Post Sports Betting journalist that specialises in football and football betting. He had this exact issue identified in his book about betting on football and lists it as one of the top 5 betting myths along with items such as the FA Cup being a great leveller. There is a psychological thing here where people only remember the managers appointed that went onto a brilliant run at a new club. No-one (including the media) ever really bats an eyelid about those that perform at the same level as the previous manager or worse, but those that "turn things around" get highlighted and remembered. The reason we have not had a new manager "bounce" effect is simply because it does not happen as often as people might think and tends to be the exception to the rule unless the playing staff gets improved. As Kevin Pullein pointed out, the primary reason for teams winning football matches is the quality of the players on the pitch and to my mind we are simply short on that quality this season so far. Lallana / Lambert injured, little pre-season, Papa / Antonio not replaced, Barney suspended for 3 games and so on. Thats a lot of firepower to not have available at 100% this year plus I agree with you that a couple of areas still need strengthening (mainly to replace Papa / Antonio) but CM needs competition. Hopefully NA can resolve this in the loan window and January transfer window if were there abouts.

That is all. To be fair to Morgan there is no chance that he woke up one morning and thought 'I know, I'll put some positive propaganda on the OS for the fans'. Crowds Posted 16 September, 2010 Share Posted 16 September, 2010 It must be just me that feels morgan is not good for saints? All he can do for me is spray a nice ball sideways... To our two 5 foot wingers. Offers nothing going forward no tasty through balls and he also lacks the killer instinct to throw a challenge in like hammond. IMO drop him and start do prada see how we fair attackin wise! Crowds
trousers Posted 16 September, 2010 Share Posted 16 September, 2010 Just wanted to express my thoughts on the latest fatuous rallying call to appear on the OS. FFS just do it on the pitch. That is all. I wrote this on the match thread after the game last night: If there's an OS article tomorrow from a Saints player saying "we must do better, it's down to us, it's only a matter of time before we go on winning run" I will kick the cat into next door's garden. Don't wheel out any players for a hollow rallying call until we've won a few games.... FFS. We've had these post match player rallying call articles on the OS since the advent of time. Not predictable in the slightest..... sigh..... p.s. It's the cat I feel sorry for when I get home from work this evening....
ladysaint Posted 16 September, 2010 Share Posted 16 September, 2010 Maybe they should get fans instead to do the rallying calls on the OS to the players sure it would be much more effective.

Crowds Morgan can pass anywhere you like, seen him do it loads of time, if he doesn't pass forward it's because there is no movement for him to pass to. I don't know how many times I've to repeat this before people get the drift, we have 1 main problem just now-it's called Rickie Lambert. Really don't know what's causing it but it needs to be tackled as a first priority.
madruss Posted 16 September, 2010 Share Posted 16 September, 2010 To be fair to Morgan, these quotes were taken from the interview he gave solent after the match last night. What was he supposed to do, say "sorry I'm not going to let you interview me in case it goes on the OS and upsets some of the more precious members of our fanbase"? He was trying to put a positive spin on a sh*t evening having just come off the pitch a disappointed loser for the 4th week running. He was well within his rights to say "f*ck off I'm not doing an interview" but he didn't, he faced up to it and I for one give him some credit for that

He was wheeled out by the PR machine, so tell them to sod off and leave the player alone. Fair point. Apologies Morgan. Who is the Gimp in charge of PR at the club as they need their arses kicking. I am sick to the fecking back teeth of these fatuous rallying calls after defeats - usually also preceding defeats. Please have some imagination and stop the BS. I would have preferred 'Adkins to crucify players over DVD breakfast'.........Manager Nigel Adkins will this morning toast several underperforming players following Saints' latest shocking capitulation in the third tier of English football. Several of the clubs big names will be called upon to account for their performances.......etc.'
