Danny Seaborne - A fresh start under Adkins?

I never quite understood us signing Seaborne, especially when we seemingly snubbed Elliot Ward to get him in and he wasn't getting into the team ahead of Aaron Martin. However, after a not exactly emphatic start for us at the back end of last year Nige brought him straight back into the team v Colchester (where he did extremely well for me) and started up at Hillsborough.

Is this just because of injuries to Martin and Fonte, or is he impressing Adkins enough to be first choice? Either way, best of luck to him.

For me, he had a storming game yesterday, his best for us. Won alot in the air and put his body on the line on numerous occasions, however he's still not a favourite of mine due to the fact he's prone to trying to hoof clear and hooking it straight up in the air, and just when he needed to be at his best Morrison turned him way too easily and Kelvin made a "worldie" to make sure we got the three points

I've always felt he's a good player tbh. Very quick off the ground and reads the game well, but is prone to the odd lapse as he's still only 21. That will get coached out of him after time, the guy obviously has something as he captained a team to promotion when he was only 19.

He's got great potential, Martin and Seaborne could be a future partnership for us.

He's 23, but that's being pedantic; the points you make are still valid.

I was going to start a thread on seabourne yesterday but never got round to it so well done.

Was not impressed last year but I thought he looked composed vs Colchester (though they were shocking up top), some good passing & looked confident.

Another clean sheet yesterday, pleased for him let's hope he can challenge

Now when I saw him play last season I did not rate him, and thought we had not bought well in acquiring him.

I did not attend the matches against Colchester or the Owls but I am hugely encouraged by what other posters are reporting on him and I will be delighted to have my impressions of him from last season proved wrong.

Not his biggest fan, but a very good game yesterday IMO. Kept their strikers quiet for the most part, although Morrison gave him a couple of problems. Most of Wednesday's attacks were set pieces, especially in the first half, which is a credit to how well we played as a unit, as well as the individual players.

I'd have Fonte back in for Jaidi, but give Seaborne a decent crack at it along side.

he's still only 21.

He is 23 and a half. ;)

He still worries me greatly. He doesn't seem to be able to judge when to jump for a header and his general reading of the game is poor. He'll get found out if he ever plays at a higher level than League One. I don't think he is the man we need to partner Fonte should Saints get to the Championship. Martin shows much more potential in my opinion.

I think Seaborne is wrongly criticised for hsi distribution, which IMO simply is not that bad. Some of his sweeping diagonal balls are actually excellent. He also is reasionably quick for a centre back. IMO he just does not win enough headers from goal kicks etc and that is the meat and drink of a centre backs' game. He needs to be more nasty, grab the perfect spot to win the header early and start to bully forwards rather than the other way round. Plenty of time for him to improve but I just wonder if he had that nasty streak in him that he needs.

I think it's good to see and supports my opinion (and that's all it is) that NA won't have mega-bucks to spend for the forseeable future. I believe one of his key tasks is to get the best out of the entire squad (which has had significant investment) and players like Seaborne will now have the chance to prove themselves.

Two clean sheets in a row and getting that goal at long last will hopefully do wonders for confidence all round.

Thought he was awful last season, his jumping lacked timing and his headers were usually fairly weak and fairly random in direction. He also seemed to lack experience at CB (didn't he mainly play LB for Exeter?) and was often a yard behind situations rather than a yard in front which often left him turned and having to defend facing his own goal.

On the plus side he is reasonably athletic for a CB and but he needs to learn to start 'punching his weight' in physical situations. Have to say I saw a degree of improvement at MK where he was one of our better players on the night. I think we are fairly well covered in this position if he is our 4th choice CB and he has every chance of improving under NA's expert tutelage - fair play to him and well done on Saturday (by all reports).

Meh, you're all about 6 months late on the "Seaborne is decent" bandwagon, he clearly showed signs of improvement when regularly picked alongside Fonte towards the end of last season. In fact he was the less hoofy of the two, and was winning everything in the air.
