MarkSFC Posted 16 October, 2010 Share Posted 16 October, 2010 Just been on Danny Bakers show playing "the sausage sandwich game"!! Always great to listen to him and hear his famous KK story again. Shame he made a couple of very subtle digs towards NC but he dos also praise his intentions for the club!

brmbrm Posted 16 October, 2010 Share Posted 16 October, 2010 This thread will not end well. The Danny Baker show: a light, fun, laughy Saturday morning programme. Lawrie's contribution: a light, fun, laughy Saturday morning effort. I didn't think anything was a "dig": "happy with Pardew, also happy with Nigel". "Run as a business". Well, come on, he has to say SOMETHING. you can interpret it as you like (i would say diggier about Liverpool, but there you go) I agree, however, the thread will not end as a "light, fun, laughy Saturday morning thread". RedWillie Posted 16 October, 2010 Share Posted 16 October, 2010 (edited) Yeah, I am listening as well, don't normally but found myself doing it today and ironic that Christian O'Connell is standing in for Danny Baker, O'Connell being a huge Saints fan and his dad still goes apparently as a STH. I remember to this day when we signed KK. Was at school and it broke at lunch time. No work done in the school for the rest of the day, teachers included ! Fitzhugh Fella Posted 16 October, 2010 Share Posted 16 October, 2010 L Mac may have his many admirers and many detractors but when that is put to one side he still flys the flag for Southampton, he delivered some of our finest moments and he does a hell of a lot for charity. Yes he has an ego (as do many in football), yes he likes to rewrite history (so do a lot of people in football) and yes he knows the value of good publicity (vital it seems in today's world) but cut him in half and he does bleed red and white. I don't think he would approve of any of the new breed of owners in football these days - he grew up in an age where the Chairman smoked a pipe, kept out of the dressing rooms and let the manager chose who to sign. Those days - for good and for bad - are forever gone. I suppose men of his age who spent a lifetime in football find that hard to swallow. In this age of clubs being owned by wealthy benefactors there will always be discord. Perhaps the German system is still the purest way ie the majority of the clubs being controlled by partial or total fan ownership. The Bundesliga has the biggest crowds and the cheapest tickets so it can't all be bad. The British system has massive flaws and will one day end in tears - you only have to look at the Skates, Liverpool and United.

saintbletch Posted 16 October, 2010 Share Posted 16 October, 2010 Yeah, yeah, cut to the chase... Does he have brown sauce, does he have red sauce or does he have no sauce at all? Brown. Apparently when he was a lad you had to be posh to have red sauce. He also has a tidy car port and watches football during the first week of a two week foreign holiday. You had to be there I guess. MarkSFC Posted 16 October, 2010 Author Share Posted 16 October, 2010 Subtle digs probably justified They may well be but I think he doesn't need to! He is one of just a very small group of true Saints Legends who are widely regarded as so nationally and even internationaly.
saintjay77 Posted 16 October, 2010 Share Posted 16 October, 2010 Always will be a legend for us and could listen to his storys from the past again and again. Not interested in his politics though as they sometimes do him no favours. Politics took the club down as much as the posh tw*t we had. Would be nice to know he is still involved with the club as he could add to match day experiences. In time it may happen but if not I hope to be somewhere that he is a guest speaker someday as it would be great to hear his storys first hand. Junior Mullet Posted 17 October, 2010 Share Posted 17 October, 2010 L Mac, Le Tissier and Osman are doing a gig at the Salisbury Playhouse on (I think) 5th November with funds going to Salisbury City FC. Well worth the entry fee IMO. If you go, you too will e able to come on here and hint in a ITK kind of way about they say. Details on Salisbury City FCs website if anyone's interested.
