Charlton Away / No Trains / Greyhound

Putting this on the main forum as I guess it will effect quite a few.

There are no trains on Boxing day to London.

Greyhound Coaches have just twigged on and what was 11 pound return on Wednesday is now 52 pounds. (If you leave from Fareham its still only 8 pound return)

Might be something that Sturomseysaint can help with if he arranges coaches etc.

Traditionally a really good following up there, but this might put a few off.

The last time I looked at the fixture list we were playing Charlton on the 26th December in England, therefore it is Boxing Day. We went through all this last year and to my shame I find people saying otherwise f##king irritating.

Its a shame that this game is on Boxing Day as its great in the away end at Charlton when its full, the place really rocks. I work in Dartford with quite a few Charlton fans and they think their away end is a disadvantage to them as its so loud it always lifts the away team.

So I fear the lack of trains will affect the away attendance, we should really be playing Bournemouth on Boxing Day.

I live in London and got the greyhound down last year for a bargain £1 each way, booked early for the extra discount. I would recommend getting mini-buses etc together for this one though. You can go by tube to north Greenwich which isn't far, but still hassle. It will be a big game so shame if we don't take 3000 up there. Brighton sold the end out well in advance when they played there recently.

Good shout, get them to run a couple of coaches like they did for wembley, couple of pick UPS in eastleigh and winchester would fill it easy enough.

Hardly surprising as they class Crystal Palace as their local rivals.:?

Don't think they use the word local, but yes main rivals. I can see a lot of demand for dagenham away a week after charlton on the bank holiday monday, not many tickets available either.

I've just checked the calender/diary and this year Saturday 25th Dec is Christmas Day and Sunday 26th Dec is Boxing Day. The Monday and Tuesday following are just Bank Holidays in lieu of CD and BD being at the weekend.

take note of the bit in brackets "(strictly, the first weekday)"

That is a few decades out of date, Even the government defines Boxing Day as the 26th December. If this is a Saturday or Sunday then the delayed Bank Holiday is a 'substitute day'.

26th,boxing day. I am faced with in laws, screaming kids and leftovers unless i can get to the football. Is coach and tube the only option or does anyone know of a better way that doesnt involve staying sober and driving. There is six of us that want to go but that means 2 cars and short straws to find the drivers. The train situation is a real bummer.

It's nothing to do with bank holidays. Boxing day existed long before someone invented back holidays.

I seem to remember it was defined as 26th December in the 'Bank Holiday Act 1871' when we discussed this last year.

Do we have to go through this every year? It's bad enough with the Christmas jingles on the tele ads but nowadays the Boxing Day debates start earlier and earlier.

No. Well, not for the next 5 or so years after this year as it gets nice and simple for those who can't work out the difference between a bank holiday and a day of tradition when they both fall on the same day.

This thing with traditions it that they evolve over time and we are now in a position that the day after Christmas whatever day it is is regarded as Boxing Day by all apart from a few pedants and snidey councils who want to catch drivers out. The BBC will be calling Boxing Day Boxing Day this year, so does the NHS Trust I work for, as they like most of they population regard Boxing Day as a non-moveable feast day and the corresponding Bank Holiday as a compensation day.
