If any one has any decent pictures of the old Dell taken during the 1960s and 1970s, particularly match day stuff, can they post them or PM me.

I've been trying to explain how it used to be in those days, and there seems to be few decent pictures out there of the Dell when it was terraced at the ends, and under both stands.

Yes, on a similar note I would be interested in viewing some more pictures of the Dell but I started going in the late 80s. There doesn't seem to be huge amounts of pictures of the old Archers and Milton Road from that period. Also I'd be interested of more pictures of the outside of the ground, such as the old club shop and ticket office etc.

Try this:

There are a few in there, although why New Brompton FC get in there I don't know. Maybe the advertiement for Peach..contractors being the loose link?

I enjoyed that link...thanks for posting!

Great shot but the only one I could find was really poor quality. Best I have so far is the YouTube video of channon's testimonial, classic memories. What happened to all the newspaper photos of that era?

Shorts are too tight for 1930's. I wonder if I am there somewhere? if it is 60's/70s there's a good chance.

Can't possibly be that late because of the woods behind the Milton. If you remember there was a shop on the corner and then just houses all the way into town,I just don't remember there being trees there.

And nor would there have been cars lining the streets behind the Milton end in the 1930's. Not sure that the electricity pilons next to the power station?where Toys R Us is now would have been there either. The running track looks good though doesn't it. I think it was taken from a spit the ball competition in the echo.

must be quite an early photo because I certain don't remember any wooded area behind the Milton, just houses.1930's perhaps .

There used to be a convent and retirement home on the corner of Milton Road and Hill Lane which became a housing development in the late 80's/ early 90's I think, so the trees may be at the back of the convent. I think you can just see the chimneys of the convent far right.

Interestingly, the area of The Dell got it's name because it was originally a narrow clearing in trees, I believe. A dell is usually in lower ground, but I can't quite work out if the surrounding area is higher. I know it's quite undulating in the surrounding streets. I'll have to have a look next time I'm in town. Anyone got any access to an early topographical map of the area?

I'd must be '60s or so as you can see Castle House in the background...

Definitely 60's.

The trees were in front of Overdell Court.

If you look closely you can see me under the middle chocolate box - 2/3d* in the boys turnstile.

Christ it was good value in those days.

* 11p for you youngsters

This photo appears on the front cover of 'Full Time at The Dell' Apparently it was from 30th April 1966 vs Charlton. Saints won 1-0. Photo taken from Overdell Court (which wouldn't have been there in the 30's)

Thanks Ray. Good to hear from you at last. :p

Look closely I was looking over the 'Winter' sign on the lower Chocco Box.

When Martin Chivers received the pass from Dave Webb up the East Stand touchline bfore crossing for Terry Paine to hit the winnwer, I reckon the ball was out of play.

Without the extra point from that game we maught not have gone up to the 1st Division

Look more closely and there's me walking up the left hand pavement on the road behind the Milton end. I'd left early for the very first time in any match and still had another few yards to walk before the most almighty roar would erupt and shake the whole street.
