I think Pardew wins handsdown.

With the exception of Chaplow, Adkins is struggling transfer wise.

needed a sub winger - got two who have reguarly started in league above - both with better pedigree than Antonio.

needed CM got young one who has played at higher levels.

What are you expecting? Messi?!

Pardew needed players - Adkins didn't.

This forum us a joke. People demanded "cover" players for when we had injuries, now we've got them they are moaning they aren't good enough after one playing well in one match and badly in the other and the second playing for the grand total of 20 minuted over 2 games. I go back to my point in January, what sort of player were you f*cking expecting to join a league one club as a squad/cover player?

Adkins has not had to overhaul a squad unlike Pardew did (and Adkins has a very good squad to work with unlike Pardew did when he joined) and really has had the trickier job of trying to attract decent squad players to a league one club and has managed to do that quite well I feel in getting three Championship players to drop down a league for us and not be guaranteed a starting place (although Chaplow has done so well of late I think he probably is now first choice)

Turkish, ive seen your posts about Saints fans and how embarrassed they make you feel. Maybe your supporting the wrong team????/ Maye theres a team with much better fans than Saints, who will sing all the right songs that you like.

If they were cover players, they wouldnt start right? Oh no's....... that cant be right

-Pardew had a HUGE budget for League 1 standards in order to build a completely new team. As I said in another thread, he wasn't the only one involved in transfers either. The chief scouts and Cortese, who are still here obviously had a big input in player recruitment too, so there's no reason why this won't continue

-We already had a very good squad and Adkins didn't need to bring in a million players. So far he brought in Chaplow who has been brilliant. N'Guessan who has had one very good game and one bad game and Forte who has played a grand total of 15 minutes. Are we writing those two off already? They were brought in mainly as squad players anyway, unfair to compare them to people like Fonte and Lambert.

-Not like everyone who was brought in when Pardew was here was a world beater. Mellis and Trotman anyone?

Would N'Gessen have played if Lallana was fully fit?

The thread is pointless because the signings Adkins makes are added to those Pardew made to make a collective squad. Pardew already brought in the key parts of the starting XI as a large amount of recruiting was needed during 2009/10 after administration. Adkins on the other hand has only been here for one window (31 days long), and the squad was already very strongfor what it needs to do apart from a few options off the bench.

Adkins secured full time Guly and Chaplow, signed Lallana long term, kept Chamberlain and signed Forte and N'Guessan for options off the bench. I think that is more than enough. In any case the signings aren't just down to the manager, it is a combination of manager, coaching staff, scouting staff, Les Reed and Nicola Cortese.

Wasn't Lallana and Guly signed up on new contracts under Adkins? And Chamberlain retained? I suspect that puts him ahead of Pardews impressive signings of Lambert and Fonte and we still have the new boys to assess from this window.

But as has already been said - pretty pointless thread. Even more so when you think what a 'team' effort it is these days to get new players in. Managers should be judged on their coaching abilities translated into results not which players the club signs.

I bet you Guly cost quite a large amount (transfer fee, the initial loan fee, signing on fee, agent fee, wages) for a League One team.

He was brought in and a fee agreed prior to Pardew leaving. Only signings after Adkins arrived can be attributed to him.

According to Cortese Adkins' attempts to buy players were hindered by Chamberlain speculation about the supposed £10m we were getting. Hardly fair comparisons anyway so whatever...

SOmeone ITK and i have no reason to doubt them, on the UI board, posted that we had a deal of £1.4m agreed for CMS, then when Wenger spoke out about AOC Peterborough double the asking price, hence NC's pop at people talking to the media about us getting £10m.

Saints were under no obligation to sign Guly even with the transfer fee agreed in August. Adkins would have given it the green light in January. He could have said no if he didn't think he fitted in with his plans. Adkins would have known a lot more about Guly having worked with him since September than Pardew did in August when he first arrived.

It sounds (according to Cortese) like Adkins first window was seriously hindered by the speculation surrounding Chamberlain and the big money every club we approached assumed we would have available from his sale.

well yes..would you say caroll or torres are worth anything near the money they went for...

unless you reckon would have paid around £5m for mackail-smith..?

Torres maybe... Caroll I agree they were stuffed and given a ricidulous price which they paid (reminds me of Steve Bull that lad).

You're right we were probably quoted silly money but my point was it's not that players won't shift in January. They will if you want them to it's just a case of who you want and how much you're willing to pay...

dont think anyone thinks otherwise...we are just pointing out that it is very difficult to get players you want in jan.....

No it's not. It just takes cash, that's what I'm saying. Carroll would have gone for the same money in July don't you think? Would he have been less at the end of the season?

Torres might because he would have been closer to the end of his contract.

What our Chairman is saying is we were quoted silly prices because poeple assumed we had ten million from AOC. They will assume exactly the same in July, sadly...

it is hard...all the top managers (as well as crap ones) say so...so I will take their word for it..

there is always little movement and then as we see, completely over priced movements that only a handful of clubs can afford...

it is hard...it was hard for us, it was hard for chelsea, it was hard for newcastle, it was hard for liverpool...

just accept it

as for carroll going for £35m in the summer...err, probably not...as no one would be panic buying in the summer..and in no way would torres go for £50m in the summer...would be lucky to go for £15m at this rate...

Not surprising though really.

We were ****e and needed to build a new spine. We signed Fonte, Lambert, Jaidi, Seaborne and Hammond. We also signed Harding, Dickson, Richardson, Butterfield. We also signed Otsemobor, Waigo, Antonio, Barnard, Martin (probably some more)...

**** me, if Adkins was goint to "beat" that we would be signing a whole new squad again.

What a silly observation.
