Aaron Martin

The lad has done well, a bit too soon really but feel the lad needs to take some credit. Thought he had excellent game when he came on against Colchester and also against Swindon. Will he or Jaidi start against Bournemouth, like to see Jaidi start as think it could be quite a physical game.

I'm sure Jaidi will start, he was just rested on Tuesday.

Martin is a good prospect, It wasn't his greatest game on Tuesday (he's usually much better with his distribution) but i hope we sign him up on a deal soon as he's out of contract at the end of the season.

Martin reminds me of Jack Charlton. No nonsense defender but not much finesse in his play. In my view finesse is a bit of a wasted quality in a defender anyway. He has very good awareness of what is happening around him and holds the line well. Seabourne was on the bench on Tuesday so gives us additional options.

Ehh? Surely Jaidi is perfect for a physical game? Martin has done well and is a good prospect but Jaidi is a player you want for this sort of game.

Horses for courses. If Fletcher plays for Bournmouth, Jaidi would counteract him. If Symes is fit, then perhaps Martin would be better for pace. Is Seabourne injured?

Has been but was back on the bench on Tues. May still be too early for him to get 90 minutes on Saturday.

well if it's physical then Jaidi will surely start

I wasn't impressed by Martin at all on Tuesday and I have to say in several games now I have come away wondering why everyone raves about him on here. It wasn't just the uncertainty in possession or distribution (which was worse than Jaidi) it was his lack of physical presence. Yeovil's striker wasn't a big lad yet Martin struggled to beat him in the air at times. I'm of the opinion that if you're not quick then as a centre back you need to be a unit.

In his defence he's in and out of the side and that must be extremely tough. I'd also add that he is young and with games he will only improve as all centre backs do. The question is will he ever get a run of games? I hope not as that means that our first choice is injured. Do people genuinely think he will be a Premiership centre back? Hmmmm.

I wonder if Jardi will get another deal promotion or not?

Thought Martin put in a very assured shift on Tuesday - not sure what some fans expect to be honest. He won 90% of the aerial challenges he was faced with from where I was sitting. He put one stray pass to an oppo player - how many times has Jaidi done this?!

Assured is the one word I would not use for his display on Tuesday. Nervy would be more fitting in my book.

I don't agree on the 90% figure at all. 50% maybe. Fonte won most stuff in the air.

I know it is an isolated incident but check out the highlights at 38 seconds and you'll find a centre back just standing and watching as a high ball loops in the box and an attacker heads on goal. Very very poor centre back play. Let me assure you that Jaidi would never allow that to happen.

At 1.00 he gets caught in possession badly that thankfully went unpunished. There was a fair bit of dilly dallying, but I admit that the crowd didn't help him or the lack of movement from the two centre backs.

Don't think that I am trying to make him out to be some woeful player, I am honestly not, but to say he was assured in that specific game does not strike a chord with me at all.

It's not, more a debunking of a statement that Martin was assured on Tuesday. He wasn't - he won hardly anything in the air (after the first 10 minutes) and was caught out of position a number of times (fortunately unpunished).

Don't get me wrong he has the ability and physical stature to be a good CB - Tuesday however wasn't a shining example of what he can offer.

He was an unused sub against Swindon :?

pro-zone is to be found in league one.

I like martin, he's not a left sided centreback (we've only really got seabourne for that) and as such we struggle to distribute across the back four, but for a youngun he's got a great future.

Looks like he gas potential, positioning looked good. One way ward ball IMO because of lack of games and seemed a bit hesitant on the ball lookin for a pass which again IMO comes with confidence and games. Heard he was ****ed off sitting on the bench and only gettin 1,200 a week too....

where would you draw the line then dulldays?

just watch the game and accept we have a team made up largely of league 1 players....DIVISION 3..

you could pick any single incident in a man u game and see rio leave his man, skew a pass...

we are division 3....this player is not even a regular in division 3...not too sure why or how you can over analyse his every move

I agree lady saint,

good selection by NA in playing Martin on Tuesday.

Low profile game that we should have / did win , and a good chance for him to get a full 90 mins. on the pitch

Jaidi is still turning in good performances - and the odd goal - but we need to use him in selected games (as with Chris Perry a while back) and help Martin and Seabourne find their feet for the future alongside Fonte (who is still a class act).

I watch the game and enjoy it. But I also assess the team and players performances. Who the hell doesn't? Tell me one fan that doesn't come out of a game and says he played well or he didn't. The only reason I pointed out the errors on the highlights was that for once some glaring errors that don't lead directly to goals were actually recorded so backed up my assessment of him.

Your point about League 1 players is irrelevant seeing as I stated Jardi wouldn't stand and watch a looped arial ball coming into the box - and he is a league 1 player too.

+1

Good prospect but Tuesday wasn't his best game. Still prefer him to Seaborne though...

the concept of evaluating players within the context of the league they are playing in seems to have passed you by.

Martin is definately a great prospect for development and will gain in confidence when NA gives him more games. Needs to play on the right side of centre though as he has no left foot at all. Meant he kept turning back inside on Tuesday night and had to keep playing it back to Kelvin

Actually, I thought that was what he was doing! I can't comment as I've hardly seen him play, but how long ago was it that he was playing for Eastleigh? I don't think he's had years of coaching in some academy set up nor was he full time, so I'm sure there's room for improvement, particularly with more uninterrupted playing-time under his belt. He seems to have the basic requirement of some pace, intelligence and reasonable attitude. The £1200 a week quoted is a lot more than he'd get in an office job, as a mechanic or even as a young graduate trainee so let's hope he doesn't moan but sets about improving himself so that he can earn more.

Incidentally, how can a professional player have "no left foot at all"? I'm low level amateur women's football and I'd be ashamed if I couldn't use both feet to at least a reasonable standard even if I have a preferred one for longer passes. In training I consciously try and use my weaker foot.

Always happy when Martin is in the team, he has a bloody big mouth in defence barking out orders and is very capable, the more he plays the better he will become: guys like Chez need to consider the few games he has had compared to Jaidhi & Fonte before mithering about him.

Compared to Seaborne you sure don't see him getting nervous as the half way line looms closer like the border between North & South Korea.

Always much happier to see Martin's name than Seabourne's - he has all the attributes to be a very good defender, and has impressed me whenever I have seen him so far. Agree that Yeovil wasn't his best performance, but he has great ability and potential. We need Jaidi's experience at the back tomorrow though!
