Lighthouse Posted 26 March, 2011 Share Posted 26 March, 2011 If peterborough dont go up, how much do you reckon joe lewis would cost? quality keeper and still young.. £1m? worth it? I'd be more tempted to see what Bart can do given a proper run in the team before we go splashing £1m on another 'keeper. I think it all depends who stays and who leaves, but at least 1 defender, striker and 2 midfielders would be a good start.
Matthew Le God Posted 26 March, 2011 Share Posted 26 March, 2011 If peterborough dont go up, how much do you reckon joe lewis would cost? quality keeper and still young.. £1m? worth it? He'd cost a lot more than £1m. In any case, Aston Villa apparently want him to replace Brad Friedel and according to Peterborough director of football Barry Fry, they made a bid (though Villa deny it). Crab Lungs Posted 27 March, 2011 Share Posted 27 March, 2011 Crab Lungs Cravings... (scouted and shortlisted over seasons of watching football!). Notice a lack of Brighton players... and that wasn't deliberate. emboldened = want! normal = satisfied and would possibly, maybe be interested in joining? italic = unlikely signing anyway (either overly-optimistic, wages too high or probably deemed not good enough for NPC) Goalkeepers Richard Lee, Brentford Boaz Myhill, WBA Tom Heaton, Cardiff Keiren W******d, Coventry Daryl Flahavan, Portsmouth Andy Lonergan, Preston Richard Wright, Sheff Utd Alex Smithies, Huddersfield Defenders Frank Simek, Carlisle Gabriel Zakuani, Peterborough Matt Kilgallon, Sunderland Jack Hobbs, Leicester Sean St.Ledger, Preston Matt Connolly, QPR Cliff Byrne, S****horpe Graeme Lee, Notts County Marcel Seip, Plymouth Craig Dawson, WBA Scott Cuthbert, Swindon Midfielders John Bostock, Tottenham Michael Tonge, Stoke Tom Soares, Stoke James Dunne, Exeter Lee Johnson, Bristol City Brian Stock, Doncaster Brian Howard, Reading Andrew Surman, Norwich John Eustace, Watford Marvin Elliott, Bristol City Owen Garvan, Crystal Palace Radowslaw Majewski, Nottm Forest Adam Barton, Preston Akos Buzsaky, QPR Johnnie Jackson, Charlton Jack Cork, Burnley John-Joe O'Toole, Colchester Charlie Lee, Peterborough Peter Leven, MK Dons Jonathan Douglas, Swindon David Prutton, Swindon Emanuel Ledesma, Walsall Jonathan Greening, Fulham Wingers Chris Brunt, WBA Graeme Dorrans, WBA Danny Rose, Tottenham Gary Roberts, Huddersfield Darren Ambrose, Crystal Palace Ross Wallace, Burnley Chris Eagles, Burnley Daniel de Ridder, Wigan George Boyd, Peterborough Ivan Sproule, Bristol City David Martin, Derby County Lee Martin, Ipswich Hameur Bouazza, Arles Lewis McGugan, Nottm Forest Keith Treacy, Preston Michail Antonio, Reading Mark Yeates, Sheff Utd Michael Kightly, Wolves Jeff Hughes, Bristol Rovers Matt Robson, Carlisle Jimmy Smith, Leyton Orient Daniel Powell, MK Dons Michael McIndoe, Coventry Simon Whaley, free Chris Taylor, Oldham Dale Jennings, Tranmere Marc Pugh, Bournemouth David Vaughan, Blackpool Strikers Jon Parkin, Cardiff Ishmael Miller, WBA Marlon Harewood, Blackpool Nicky Maynard, Bristol City David Somma, Leeds Steve Howard, Leicester Chris Brown, Preston Darius Henderson, Sheff Utd Alan Lee, Huddersfield Ben Burgess, Notts County Sam Baldock, MK Dons Rory Fallon, Plymouth Adam Le Fondre, Rotherham Matt Derbyshire, Birmingham Jason Roberts, Blackburn James Beattie, Rangers Simon Cox, WBA Loans Alberto Bueno Henri Lansbury Dean Parrett Steve Caulker Emmanuel Frimpong Jordon Mutch Keith Andrews Daniel Pachecho Raheem Stirling

Saint in Paradise Posted 27 March, 2011 Share Posted 27 March, 2011 Sorry benjii but for once I have to agree to disagree. I am very confident KD will be "found out" by lots of teams next season, Bart never seems to be given a long run so it would appear he is not as good as some, including myself, think. Finally need I mention a certain Mr Forcast ? I think we need at least one if not two new goalkeepers to help us onwards and upwards. Just because some people think KD is untouchable because he is a "good bloke" sentiment cannot and must not be allowed if we want to continue progress to the promised land. . benjii Posted 27 March, 2011 Share Posted 27 March, 2011 (edited) He's not untouchable and whether he is a good bloke is irrelevant. What he is, is one of the best keepers in the football league who had numerous top top class performances the last time we were in the Championship. We could well decide to sign another keeper for competition/cover but we certainly don't need one. I think it's hard to say what we need to sign as most of our players are good enough to do perfectly well in the Championship - the real test is organisation, teamwork and profesionalism. We might need an extra centre back as, apart from Fonte, there must be a question mark over the ability of all the others to do well at that level now (I'm sure Martin will prove to be god enough eventually and Jaidi obviously was at one time, maybe he still is). I would also like to see us sign another right sided midfielder as Guly is not really a winger and Forte looks more like a front runner to me, but it may be that another player from the development squad will provide an option there. We don't need big structural adjustments. However, once you hit Championship level there are more players of genuine quality available (ie Genuine top-flight players like Bellamy). One or two "big" signings to add undisputed quality to the side should be all we really need. Edited 27 March, 2011 by benjii
saint_stevo Posted 27 March, 2011 Share Posted 27 March, 2011 85% of our players are CCC quality as it is. New keeper, attacking midfielder, replacement for AOC, Striker for depth required. Some flair wouldn't go amiss either
SuperMikey Posted 27 March, 2011 Share Posted 27 March, 2011 Our team is pretty strong, although we don't know what our ambitions would be next season if we were to gain promotion this year. As a newly promoted side, would we aim to secure our place in the Championship in our first season and then aim for promotion in the second, or would we want to shoot on through by going for promotion in our first season? If we were to be promoted, we could feasibly keep most of our squad in the Championship, but there are some players who won't be able to make the grade at a higher level and would need to be replaced. We should probably let go: Forecast - Not good enough for me, being sent back from Eastbourne and Grimsby says something really. Mills - If we get a bid from Donny, we should take it. He's 3rd choice here and it's not fair for him as he is good enough. Seaborne - If we get a bid in. Having a left-footed CB is a great option, but I still don't think he's good enough. He has improved, but we can't have any weak links. Jaidi - He's been immense this season, but he's getting on and his contract is up. Maybe give him a PAYP deal, as on his day he's still Champ quality. Puncheon - Can't see him coming back at all, and he's playing well in the Prem. Make a nice profit from him and move on. Holmes - I still rate him very much, but his injury record speaks for itself. Hopefully he can find his fitness and get regular first-team football elsewhere. Connolly - He's getting on, he's always injured and he's hardly featured at all this season. Sorry David, you've been a great pro but it's time to go. Which means we probably need to sign: GK x1 RB/LB x1 CB x2 RM/LM x2 ST x1

Really - I'm not complaining (far, far from it) but by using the present tense do I notice a hint of positivity that we may go up? Keep taking that pill!! Panda Posted 3 April, 2011 Share Posted 3 April, 2011 Looking up Norwich (2nd), Leeds (5th) and Millwall (8th) have all done well this season in the Championship. How much have they strengthened and how much of the squad were part of the team that went up? I have no idea but my recollection is that none were that prolific in the transfer market. Does that mean the gap between 2nd and 3rd division is not that great? If that is the case then we don't need much in my view, just a good pre-season and a couple of replacements for ageing players who might be OTT and not up for a new campaign. Several of our players have already played at Championship level anyway.
