Saint in Paradise Posted 24 April, 2011 Share Posted 24 April, 2011 Plymouth have a creditors meeting on May 6th, before the end of the season, and IF the creditors refuse the paltry offer they will go out of business. Now just suppose Plymouth went out of business that very day and Brighton lose their last 3 games,( they would also lose 6 points because of Plymouth ) but Saints win all of theirs we would end up with more points than them so Saints would be champs ? I am sure the FL wouldn't like or even let that happen but what if that situation did take place ?

SaintNeil90 Posted 24 April, 2011 Share Posted 24 April, 2011 I'm finding it funny how they think repeating the fact they are Champions will annoy us. At the start of the season I didn't care whether we finished 1st, 2nd or had to win the play off final... as long as we got promoted. The reward is exactly the same for them all, Championship football next season.
Capel Saint Posted 24 April, 2011 Share Posted 24 April, 2011 Indeed. They have the bragging rights for winning the league and I take off my hat to them (if I was wearing one) for doing so convincingly. However, come August, it will not matter in the slightest as everyone starts on 0 points!

For some bizarre reason we'd have got exactly the same for finishing 2nd in L2.
david in sweden Posted 24 April, 2011 Share Posted 24 April, 2011 Gus Poyet would spontaneously explode. Brighton are surely one of the few SCCs NOT to have had a points deduction at some point in the past - aren't they?

Dazza82 Posted 24 April, 2011 Share Posted 24 April, 2011 Anyway don't we want them to beat Udders? Dont need to worry about other results as long as we win ours. Can't see this happening, we have to all move on from this they are champions and they deserve it, we beat them in their own backyard. Its now time to move on and forget about Brighton

Window Cleaner Posted 24 April, 2011 Share Posted 24 April, 2011 The FL would just give whoever Plymouth are playing on the last day 3 points for a 3-0 win. Happened in France just recently. Guegnon went out of business but as they played more than 70% of their matches the results stood and everybody still to play them gets a 3-0 win.Standard UEFA rules although I suppose the FL might do it differently, not for 1 game though. The be all and end all being in the Premiership! I really wanted Saints to be champions. I think we have one less league titles( Just the one in 1960) than almost any of the other current 92 league clubs. Surely the whole point of entering any competition is to win it, or it always used to be. I'm sure in the EPL Arsenal, Chelsea etc wont be comforting themselves with the worthlessness of winning the title, just becuase they all get a slot in the Champions league next season! We are very well placed to get second now, but winning the play-off final would still get us out of League One, and thus would be acceptable. Going up as Champions is a perk, but it's not the be all and end all. Lack of promotion, and losing our better players, is unthinkable.

I can't believe this was allowed! Teams benefiting purely because the fixture list threw their match up later in the season?? I really wanted Saints to be champions. I think we have one less league titles( Just the one in 1960) than almost any of the other current 92 league clubs. Isn't this the situation for a lot of clubs that have had extended (albeit medicore) stays in the top flight? If so, I'd take finishing 10th in the top flight over being champions of the fourth tier any day!

I make it 8 League titles for Saints first team... Southern League Champions: 1896–97, 1897–98, 1898–99, 1900–01, 1902–03, 1903–04 Third Division South Champions: 1921–22 Football League Division 3 Champions: 1959–60 In any case, being in the top flight for 35 of the last 45 years makes it hard to win league titles. Draino76 Posted 25 April, 2011 Share Posted 25 April, 2011 We can still win this. If Brighton lose 6 points and we gain 3 points due to Argyle going under I will personally commission an airplane to fly a 200 foot banner over Poyets house stating 'The table doesn't lie'. Saint_clark Posted 25 April, 2011 Share Posted 25 April, 2011 Get some sleep and we'll discuss in the morning. No, he's right. We wouldn't gain 3 points if Plymouth went under, just like we didn't lose 3 points when they beat us. You would have been right if you'd said we'd gain 6 points on Brighton.
