hamster Posted 22 October, 2008 Share Posted 22 October, 2008 I am fairly confident in saying, Glenn Hoddle will be in Southampton next week. He will be introduced to the players on Wednesday. He is quite likely to train his players at Staplewood, but it will be 'behind closed doors' I am afraid. Whether pro or anti GH, please don't get too excited about it, as he is only bringing a team from his academy to play Saints and should be boarding a homebound plane later that evening. Apologies if this is already 'out there'.

benjii Posted 22 October, 2008 Share Posted 22 October, 2008 Someone needs to make sure the club are forewarned so Staplewood security can be increased. Don't want a John Lennon moment. I suppose it's just one of them things though.

There is more chance of the Clash playing there again than Hoddle coming back to Saints (I hope).

I assure you Nick, the match will happen. Glenn WILL be bringing a team to play Saints first team, behind closed doors next Wednesday, Kick Off 12 O'Clock. I will leave it to others to speculate as to the real purpose of the game!

dubai_phil Posted 23 October, 2008 Share Posted 23 October, 2008 Ah the SCW "football needs to find a way to bring late developers into the first team", added to Rupert's "Develop our own players" and moulded to the "Glenn Hoddle links with Southampton" conspiracy. Well, I'm not at all surprised to see the concept of him using our facilities and players as test beds being rumoured, whether it is real or happens is another issue. Let's hope he lends us a Ronaldo clone in January.....

I don't think the Catcher has ever been produced for the big screen, thought there was a project 2 years or so ago but I've no idea what's happening on that. I love this forum - a thread starts about Glenn Hoddle and, in the blink of an eye, it's all about JD Salinger and real/fake films. How can anybody quibble with the £5 membership fee? Do you think the chap who wrote a review of the fake film actually bought a copy? I'm still chuckling at the thought of that!
saintbletch Posted 23 October, 2008 Share Posted 23 October, 2008 Hence the connection back to John Lennon I guess!! That was the reason for the original reference. Chapman was obsessed with TCITR, thinking it a source of many answers to life's riddles. He was also hearing voices at the time he shot Lennon. Apparently his room was full of copies of the book and the morning he kill JL he bought another copy, shot Lennon and then stayed at the scene reading TCITR until they arrested him. Window Cleaner Posted 23 October, 2008 Share Posted 23 October, 2008 one of those books you always hear mentioned but never read - whats it like? The Catcher in the Rye? Well I would put it on everybody's must read list, but then that's just me. It's an insight into the workings of the fairly unbalanced adolescent mind. Still to some I suppose it would seem archaic and out of date nowadays, but then so is Shakespeare et al. I'm sure your local library has at least one copy.
