lordswoodsaints Posted 10 December, 2008 Share Posted 10 December, 2008 if sol is not gay then why is he getting upset by it? how can they arrest a handful of people when probably hundreds were singing it. this type of abuse has been directed at sol for years, probably by every club he has ever played against, and i believe he gets his fair share of racist chants aimed at him on international duty........so why has this only been jumped on now?....the answer is redknapp owned the copyright to the song and he wasnt paid his royalties. Saint in Paradise Posted 10 December, 2008 Share Posted 10 December, 2008 How can the Police prove beyond reasonable doubt that the men pictured were actually singing the abuse, do they have recordings that they can take individual voice prints from to 100% prove their alegations ? Ken Tone Posted 11 December, 2008 Share Posted 11 December, 2008 Good job the PC brigade were not about in the late 60s and 70s, half of The Milton would have got nicked. It's not even that long since idiots like Dennis Wise allegedly got away with homophobic abuse of their own team mate, Graeme Le Saux --- abuse based solely on the fact that he openly admitted to taking part in perverted activites such as "reading", occasionally "watching a play" and perhaps even "liking some art". I wasn't at the pompey/spurs game and do not know what was chanted. I do know that there is a line that shouldn't be crossed in terms of what is said. Whether it was crossed that day, who knows? That is not to say that fans shouldn't abuse opposing players, or indeed their own chairman. They always have and always will. It's the nature of that abuse that is under scrutiny. K. Arizona Posted 11 December, 2008 Share Posted 11 December, 2008 TBH, I think were safe with Swing Lowe. For starters, if they nicked anyone who sang it, the only people in SMS at the weekend would be three old ladies in the Chapel (I know it hasn't got much airing this season, but give it till after the transfer window). Secondly, it isn't all that offensive. Nobody is seriously suggesting we hang him from the Itchen Bridge.

Its only takes a few minutes to work out real names from that. That's what may do for them. Otherwise, I cannot seriously see Hants Police getting any convictions. If any other fans had complained I would have had more sympathy but after the Skates interrupted Bates' silence and also their sick chants at Dave Jones's first game for Wolves, they are hypocrites of the highest order. Watch Harry though, let's see if he condemns the Spurs fans now he is at WHL! Bet he says they are innocent and the best fans in the world. One of the songs wasn't that bad but one was pretty vile but it has been sung apparently at North London derbies regularly when Campbell was at Arsenal. That's not defending it, I just think the Police's time could be better used on crimes committed on the inner cities of Portsmouth and Southampton. alehouseboys Posted 12 December, 2008 Share Posted 12 December, 2008 This is setting a dangerous precedent for the future of the English match atmosphere and why has Hants OB waited til now when the skates have been singing about "Scummers" (kind of racism?) and "...hitting 'him with a brick..." for 3 decades? To be fair though it's not really a racist chant; you could say that it has homophobic implications but it's not explicit. Granted it's a horrible chant and those who sing it are obviously complete ****s but I think arresting them over it is going too far.

cambsaint Posted 13 December, 2008 Share Posted 13 December, 2008 I would support people being thrown out and banned by the club for racist or extremely abusive chants-still probably almost impossible to get a conviction beyond reasonable doubt in a jury trial (I hope)- unless standing next to a plain-clothes copper- and considering a very respectable friend of mine was done at an away match by two lying coppers in the sixties I for one would doubt the authenticity of some statements. Quite frankly this appears at first sight to be a gross abuse of public funds:-but then if they didn't waste taxpayers money on this they would either give it bankers, waste it illegal wars, or give themselves huge and unjustifiable salaries and pensions.
