SaintRobbie Posted 3 January, 2009 Share Posted 3 January, 2009 The train is symbolic. Of this club. A runaway train out of control on the track to oblivion. Dear Sir Clive Woodward, May I please test your Sports Psychologist/expert advice very briefly. I believe we retained our ability to contact you over such issues when you left us. Is it OK (ie will it not have an impact on the team) for the strategic leadership of the Club to have a picture of a train from our nearest relegation rivals on the boardroom wall in lieu of one of the greatest winning moments inthe history of this once great club? Would it have any impact on the psychology of the leadership of the club and morale of fans and former legends to know that a relegation rival has potentially already scored a massive early hit in the battle for survival (probably inadvertently) by presenting it? If so, do you think it should be removed or should the leadership of the club continue to demonstrate their arrogance and pigheadedness by keeping it in place and saying such things in The Sun newpaper as 'I dont see that this is an issue.' Many Thanks, St Robbie. PS given recent results I'm sure the eye gym is broken.. can you come and fix it. Thank you.

sadoldgit Posted 3 January, 2009 Share Posted 3 January, 2009 GReat times, but Lawrie could not amass that type of team here nowdays. He was a man of his time but times hav emoved on. Can't blame him for rehashing the glory days as we have not had many of those at this club, but he did not cover himslef in glort when he came back and seems to forget that we almost went down last year whilst he was here to give us his enormous experience. I bet Alex Ferguson and Big Phil arehaving a laugh. How many roadsweepers do they have playing for them? How many did Brazil have in 1970? I some of Lawries better squads I don't remember too may roadsweepers either. Yes it was petty of Lowe to take his picture down, but it is also petty to hearp on about it (or have your wife harp on about it) at the AGM! His ego is a big as Lowe's if not bigger. Right now the troubles of the club are bigger than a 30+ year old photograph. If it had been a picture of the team with the trphy I would join in, but it was McMenemy. Tells you all you need to know. McMemeny talks about divisiness but he is being divisive. Whaetver you think of Lowe, he did preside over our more successful periods in the last decade and things were not all bad. Expect Charlie Sale's column within the next week to contain some piece of gossip from a well-placed source, either rubbishing the previous regime with particular reference to Lawrie, or extolling the virtues of the current set-up in the most trying and difficult circumstances (which were inherited from the previous regime). But hey, all's fair in love and war for the hearts and minds of supporters in the media propaganda war. Lawrie has his contacts in the media which he has used for years, so does Rupert. Unfortunately for Lawrie, the fickle nature of the media means that after the final whistle tomorrow, the caravan will pack up and move elsewhere, and Southampton FC will return to what it has been - a relegation-battling Championship club on the south coast which doesn't figure on the radar of the national newspapers which he deals with. Once United up sticks and leave town, media interest departs with it. The only outlet remaining remotely interested in the affairs of Southampton FC will be Charlie Sales' Daily Mail column. I suspect Lowe might well know that, which is why he has kept a low profile, and not responded (yet) to any pre-match pops at him. He can ride this out for a few days until the hoop-la is over, safe in the knowledge that after Monday, all he has to contend with is the hapless local media. Honestly you could write the script for these clowns... they are so predictable. Sale has indeed acted as another one of Lowe's rentboys rather as certain other journalists - Powell was one again in the Mail - have acted in a similar way for Venables and Redknapp. Your most telling point was on the "hapless local media" - The Echo is the worst local paper in England and believe me, I come across most of them around the country on a regular basis. If you get a 3rd in Media Studies and almost flunk your NUJ, The Echo is an alternative to flipping burgers and that was before the world downturn. Rather than detailing Lowe's many failings, inablity to retain managers etc he has a go at him for where he lives and his posh hobbies, ffs that is irrelevant. This picture tiff is worse than my kids, the image of a old bloke carrying it around to sulk and make a point is comical. And he talks of boardroom only being here two years and not knowing the impact of the cup - I am sure even Lowe could not help to have been moved by the yellows at Cardiff!
