A great listen...even if I don't agree with Dan about the non penalty- it should have stood!

I don’t agree as it happens, and Dan, at least pretend to have a soft spot for the team currently providing you with a living and stop referring to Saints in the third person. I don’t care if your faking it, just tell us you love us 💕

Total Saints Podcast Episode 171 - Martin Semmens Q&A

With no Saints game this week we took the international break to talk with Southampton FC's CEO, Martin Semmens.

We’ll hear from the man at the top about the indifferent start of the season, the work to attract new investors, and the potential for safe standing at St Marys.

We asked for your questions and you delivered! All of the questions we asked Martin were taken from your suggestions on Patreon, Twitter and Facebook so thanks for your support and we hope you got some answers. We'll be speaking to other Saints staff and players throughout the season but, if there's anyone you'd like to hear us interview, get in touch and let us know.

I am always suspicious of people who talk a lot and quickly, gloss over facts as they gallop along and are endlessly reassuring. Their strategy of course is to head off embarrassing questions;  lets face it there were quite a lot of points of conjecture in this monologue that were missed by not intervening and asking challenging questions at the time.

According to this gospel of St Semmens everything is going to plan and is either under control or controls are being put in place to ensure the future outcomes are those that  are desired.

I am not buying it. Things are not at all rosy and as far as one can tell not going to plan. Effective action to address problems is hampered by complacency and an inability to grasp nettles, classic senior management weaknesses. Horseman's situation is a case in point and arguably accountability for poor first team performances is long overdue.

Not all change is good but no change is certainly not good.

I guess there's only so much probing you can do or he won't come back for further interviews.

In fairness to him, he did make it clear that this next run of games is crucial so I guess he's willing to be held to account if that doesn't go well.

He comes across very well but womens football being as big as mens football one day. WTF?

Just listened to it, "one day the women's game will be as big, if not bigger than the mens"

Not sure what planet he's living on.

Why not? I mean, I don't think you can confidently predict it will happen, but I don't see why it can't either. If you get girls playing in schools then the rest will follow

We're happy to let him voice his opinion on how things stand but expect to hold him to some of these comments later in the season for better or worse! It's a fine line to walk but hopefully we got the most out of him for where we are in the season.

A jammed packed TSP this week, the team cover the disastrous 1-1 draw against Brighton, the somewhat positive 2-2 draw against Leicester, the incoming changes with our goalkeeper (just to note this recording finished about half an hour before the news on this dropped, but it seems psychic Steve had the scoop already), any updates with the takeover discussions that heated up throughout the week and taking a look back at Ralph's 3 years in charge. All that in 45 minutes? Absolutely!

Cheers - always a good listen. Must be baffling again if Lord Dickhead listens and doesn’t understand or have any criticism of the PL. TBH got me worked up again about fucking Newcastle raising all those points again.

We also look back at the FA Cup win against Swansea… you know it’s been a strange week when “Shane Long Scores the Winner” isn’t the big talking point. There's also a preview for the upcoming Brentford and Wolves game. Told you it was busy!
