Long time lurker (aka reader, of the amazing joy that is 606/the forum). But shirly after the last tweet from the club Jack Stephens is the next captain.

caveats. Am tipsy.

am enjoying listening to purple rain live in syracuse as I type this.

so collectively, there’s a strong chance I dunno what I’m talking about.

Think he’s a bit new. Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s Bednarek if he stays.

Bednarek was my punt last season, and I think he'll be decent. I just think it shines through that Martin is a bright player, and very much knows the Martin way. If not the captain, he'll be good for us. In fact, there'll be a few leaders in that back 4 this season which will help.

I wouldn’t even start Stephens let alone make him skipper. For a tall guy and a CH he is very poor in the air and his tendency to lose it when a captain should have a cool head and level of maturity about him should rule him out.

When he was on at the Reading game, it was very much him telling players where they needed to be. Reckon on him too though JWP may be around for a while yet.

Indeed. You can tell he's played for Martin before and knows exactly what he and others should be doing. He's a real organiser, and is a very good player with it.

Everything we've missed the past 3/4 years. We need a core of 4 or 5 of them throughout the team!

Of the players currently at the club Id be inclined to pick Bednerak over Stephens but can understand why RM would pivot to JS

Veteran player, loyal, vocal

The issue for me is I don’t think he is particularly good, atleast on previous showings, and so the most replaceable of our back line

Personally, think JS would make a great Saints captain. Being vocal and passionate about the club is something we've missed on the pitch. Plus, telling Vardy to get up after diving in the 1-2 win at theirs, taking the piss out of the other Leicester player with his fingers in his ears and his putting right of Moaning Myrtle Fernandes is the stuff I want from a captain. 😁 Not being the best player on the pitch shouldn't preclude you from being captain.

Funny how when we win no one remarks on how poor JWPs captaincy was/is. Basically, it matters little who is the on field captain these days IMO as the manager is nigh on the pitch directing traffic. What's more important is how senior players behave on a daily basis.

and so finally .... Jack's the Lad.

The last survivor of  " Prowsey's generation " which also included;  Shaw, Targett, Reed, Chambers, and McQueen amongst others.

Those who criticised JWP for not shouting at his team mates will be in for a treat, as Jack has never been last in the queue to express an opinion.

To be fair, he had a baptism of fire after Saints prematurely sold Jose Fonte, only for VvD to be badly injured only weeks afterwards, and Jack was

drafted in alongside Maya Yoshida.... (who was the only other experienced CB at the time) ...but he DAJFU for a while, but took some unfair

criticism for faults that were not always his.       Now at last, he has the chance to prove himself in the key role in the team.

Never a stranger to a referee's yellow card, he always showed courage and determination that some others around him sadly lacked.

I ...for one ...will say Good Luck ...  Captain Jack !
