krissyboy31 Posted 29 January, 2009 Share Posted 29 January, 2009 Does that mean Svensson is finished as a player?
trousers Posted 29 January, 2009 Author Share Posted 29 January, 2009 Does that mean Svensson is finished as a player? "This decision does not, however, signal the end of Svensson's playing career, but the 33-year old has simply readjusted his priorities following the start of his new coaching career." Ponty Posted 29 January, 2009 Share Posted 29 January, 2009 Probably a conflict of interest to be club captain and represent the players whilst also being on the staff.

trousers Posted 29 January, 2009 Author Share Posted 29 January, 2009 Does that mean he is not going to be sold in the next few days If this was any other club I'd reply: "of course that's what it means"....but this isn't any other club.... Bailey Posted 29 January, 2009 Share Posted 29 January, 2009 Good news all round, although despite what the article says, it would seem Svensson's playing days are well and truly over. Kelvin is an ideal replacement for the captaincy though, and this suggests he will definitely be staying until the end of the season at least! Here's hoping he signs a new contract in the summer too. He's been first class for us this season and we need him here long term.

I know but it is not bad news which it may have been if Perry was made Club Captain
Huffton Posted 29 January, 2009 Share Posted 29 January, 2009 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/articles/article.php?page_id=11295 Great news. This must mean he is staying. They wouldn't do this then flog him a week later, would they???
BARCELONASAINT Posted 29 January, 2009 Share Posted 29 January, 2009 Please don't tempt fate!! He fully deserves it this season. He is the main reason we are not already relegated.

They wouldn't do this then flog him a week later, would they??? Good news in that respect, but i don't think GK's should be captains really. That said theres no-one else deserving of the honour. david in sweden Posted 29 January, 2009 Share Posted 29 January, 2009 Probably a conflict of interest to be club captain and represent the players whilst also being on the staff. .......not to mention the fact the captain ought to be a player on the pitch ! mikec Posted 29 January, 2009 Share Posted 29 January, 2009 Good news in that respect, but i don't think GK's should be captains really. That said theres no-one else deserving of the honour. I agree. I think the captain needs to be in the thick of it, geeing the players up, giving them a bollocking when they mis-hit passes and cooling things down with the ref if someone's in danger of a yellow/red card. Nothing against KD who's had a great season but I think someone else should be captain - not sure who though.
Ponty Posted 29 January, 2009 Share Posted 29 January, 2009 Club captain, not team captain.
SFC Forever Posted 29 January, 2009 Share Posted 29 January, 2009 Club captain, not team captain. Beat me to it Ponty. Will we see someone else handed the armband though? If so who because not many candidates have got close to deserving it this season? Most good teams have more than one player capable of geeing up the rest when needed. Kelvin has been our best player by the prevebial mile.
cellone Posted 29 January, 2009 Share Posted 29 January, 2009 Is club captain to team captain like head coach is to manager in as much as there is less authority but just as much ownership off succes and failiur? or Is club captain a team leader and something more? or Is it an identical role with a new title? Saint_clark Posted 29 January, 2009 Share Posted 29 January, 2009 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/articles/article.php?page_id=11295 Great news. This must mean he is staying. They wouldn't do this then flog him a week later, would they??? He could be off at the end of the season, however. FFS, offer him a f*cking contract, even if it's a reduced one!! You don't know if he'll accept a pay cut before you try....
a1ex2001 Posted 30 January, 2009 Share Posted 30 January, 2009 Anyone predict this after the Sheffield Wednesday game last year? I certainly never thought I'd see the day when he was welcomed as our club captain an impressive turn around!
Legod Third Coming Posted 30 January, 2009 Share Posted 30 January, 2009 Good choice but let's make Andy Surman the captain on the pitch - longest-serving player and honest fan. Would also give him the responsibility he needs to get stuck in.

eelpie Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 Let's give him a great reception to celebrate his appointment. A true Saint. He deserves it.
