Pre-season results generally mean fuck all. I get the concern but I’m prepared to wait before talking about manager being out of his depth

Out of his depth might have been a bit strong, however after a couple of months in the door by now you’d be doing your research, watching old footage and asking those that were around what the strong and weak points of the squad are. If he genuinely believes that Baz, and Stephens are first names on the team sheet then questions deservedly need to be asked. Likewise starting Fraser on the wing.

If he came out and said that today’s line-up was the best he could put out and said we don’t need any additions but clearly that isn’t the case

Silver lining - Charles looks good. Very composed on the ball.

There are some positives to add 4-5 automatic starter signings to - Downs has looked tidy when he’s actually had any service.

Stephens and Bree very poor, Baz ok first 20 but very shaky since the disallowed goal. Can’t see him coping with the derby game in September.

I cannot believe we are going into another season with bazunu in goal

Fucking suicidal club

What’s he done wrong? Great save earlier.

How do we know he doesn't want to replace Baz? Agree about Stephens though I'd much rather he wasn't playing but he obviously wants experience. Frazer playing we don't really have much of an alternative other than Robinson with Sulemana gone and Edozie going.

What was the point in setting up this game if we're going to play attack vs defence for 90 minutes, probably the opposite of how 80% of our games will go this season

Everything the club does is fucking amateur hour since SR took over

Why the fuck is it not Stephens getting injured?

I’ll stretcher him to the medical room myself

Silver linings - last year when we lost 5-0 to Brentford, we beat Swansea 3-0 the week afterwards. Quality wise the Championship is so far off, we'll be fine against Wrexham.

Ipswich though afterwards... I'm a bit scared. But hopefully we'll have signed a couple of additions by then.

The pitch doesn't look in great shape. You'd think it'd be pristine at this time of year

From what I’ve been told the head groundsman was asked to produce a surface that reflected the quality of the team playing on it.

Not watching but comments indicate there is not much to shout about so far. Too many of the old and failed guard still getting starts so no surprise it's poor entertainment.

There must be a minor carbon monoxide leak at Staplewood and Saint Mary's. Every fucking manager comes in and installs Baz and Stephens as undroppables...

It's a strange one for sure.

We won't play a team as good as Brighton in the league but what it does show is that if (when) we're back in the Prem we need a brand new squad.

Like Sunderland appear to be doing… will be interested to see how they do.

We've just proved we're not very good at it

They should lock manager and players in a room every Monday morning and get someone to read out all the posts on the match thread. Then they’d get a feel for opinion on Stephens

If you’d said a few weeks ago that we were starting the Championship season with Bazunu, Bree, Stephens, Manning and Fraser in the first XI, I’d have said don’t be ridiculous. But here we are.

Too many squad players. Add in Archer who always does fuck all, Sesay and Quarshie who we can’t really pass judgment on yet, it feels pretty grim.

I've watched nearly all of the pre-season friendlies and I still couldn't really tell you what our attacking style is supposed to be.  There's been no discernible patterns of attacking play for me.

IMO we have looked best when we've played up the middle, through the central midfield, but we seem very reluctant to do that.

Quarshie and Sesay look good. No idea about Downs because he's had no service whatsoever.

Archer and Armstrong have been completely anonymous. Fraser is pointless.

Granted we've not had much possession, but it's hard to see what we're trying to do.

Playing an attacking trio of Armstrong, Archer and Fraser is like a triple Elyounoussi.

I was going to say that reminded of a Masterchef dish - Elyounoussi three ways - but probably not the best analogy at the moment….

I know we are working the players hard but now supposedly injuries to sesay, Dibling, Downes, Smallbone, Quarshie and maybe others I might have forgotten. Is this an indication that we are overdoing it a bit? I accept some of these may be fake injuries.

Probably safe to say that, as usual, we will not come flying out the blocks this season. Why are we so incapable of getting a team prepared for a new season.
