Monk Posted Tuesday at 06:28 Posted Tuesday at 06:28 Just taken in a bit of nostalgia and watched some highlights from 1999, he’s looked mustard in all three clips. I would’ve been around 8/9 when he was with us and was gutted he left. (Joining Villa after giving his word to Ipswich) Given he was a fairly key player for us, why did he/we run down his contract? Was he bit of a dick? Did we sign Tahar El-Khalej to sweeten him?
LiberalCommunist Posted Tuesday at 06:36 Posted Tuesday at 06:36 Money. We were infamous for shit pay, so it wasn't a surprise. Didn't set the world alite at Villa, but got paid. Fair enough. 2

One weekday afternoon, late 2000, Tahar El-Khalej and I were the only two customers in the branch of Endsleigh Insurance, near the Bargate. I don't think we acknowledged one another in any way, (but my Moroccan isn't brilliant). 2

Enjoyed watching him, direct and good change of pace. Not sure why it didn’t work out at Villa, on paper should have been a Graham Taylor player. Bit of a hot reception in one of the early SMS games, IIRC Delap got sent off for us after an incident with Hassan and Dion Dublin was then sent off for them for barely touching heads with one of our players. Another game that fat little Steve Dunn lost control of. Edited Tuesday at 08:00 by Gloucester Saint 2

No, but his Chairman was… (Re contract negotiations) I recall Lowe saying something like “what he needs to understand is that in his country what we’re offering would be an absolute fortune”. Hints of Lowe’s imperialist world view that we know all too well now. 2

Was he bit of a dick? Did we sign Tahar El-Khalej to sweeten him? He just got a much better offer from Villa. He was, indeed, very good on his day and could play right and left, and also worked hard off the ball. Ironically, an abiding memory I have of him, was the mint goal he scored away at Tranmere in the cup. That match was the closest I've come to inflicting football-related violence on someone in a pub, as we royally screwed it up and a Spurs fan was doing my head in. 1
Whitey Grandad Posted Tuesday at 11:37 Posted Tuesday at 11:37 Two goals against Arsenal in that 'Last game at the Dell'. Not forgotten. Good grief. I've just had a look and that was over 24 years ago. Also I didn't realise that MLT's goal came in the last minute of normal time. Happy Days. 1
Turkish Posted Tuesday at 12:01 Posted Tuesday at 12:01 He was very decent I believe we picked him up on a free after a trial period which is incredible that a player of that ability didn’t have a club. 1

Alain Perrin Posted Tuesday at 14:15 Posted Tuesday at 14:15 Great memories of Dellhurst park in our Great Escape season. HK was a great player for us.
Killers Knee Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago (edited) Remember him after the Dellhurst Park match walking out onto the street to see all the coaches lined up with Saints fans. He was a talented player. As for El-Khalej, didn't he scythe down a Geordie startlet (Dyer?) at SMS and the Northam reward him with a round of "Shearer's gonna get ya!" bpsaint Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago Loved Kachloul, he was a decent player for us, particularly in that great escape season of 98-99. As mentioned he also played a huge part in our final game at the Dell, I was gutted why lost him to Villa in the following weeks. 1
