No no no, he cried in front of the cameras, that's what really matters and we should all just lay off him because he's such a super dooper guy who bleeds red and white you know, he's feeling it just as much as we do and is just so determined to put it right like he would if he was in a trench in WW1 which is exactly the same as getting paid £40k a week to kick a football around

In partial defence of Jack, he's been in an environment where this response to adversity has become normalised. That doesn't mean he can't learn new responses in a better environment.

I'd argue that, as captain for most of that time, it was very much his responsibility to stop that from happening, which he utterly failed to do. He was meant to be a leader but has shown no proper leadership at all. He's a perfect symbol of the massive decline in standards in all areas of the club under SR, a massive part of the problem, and needs to go along with Manning, Downes, THB and all the other arrogant, entitled, failures who have been stinking the place out for way too long. Sick of the lot of them.

Do think its a bit mad that the club hasn't used this window to address the manager position... If Eckert really is the best they can attract then we're really in the mire...

Don't get me wrong I would want my captain to speak up. I also think that Jack's new contract was a clear signal of Still and Spors unsuitability.

However, I've also seen that people can change behaviour as a culture changes. Only a small number of people are capable of driving a culture change. Some will actively oppose it it but the majority will happily adapt if they are shown there's a better way. To often extraordinary outcomes.

I don't see Jack turning into a different footballer but I do see him as a player that could be valuable for the squad.

I think the time to show his value to the squad as come and gone. He's been at the club for 14/15 years, and some of our worst times have been under his 'leadership'.

If we're honest, he's only the captain because he's been here the longest, and maybe because he pumps and waves his arms more than the rest of the meek lot we have. It's certainly not for bollocking players when needed, or marshalling the back line, as a center half captain should.

Or, apparently, setting a leadership example in the dressing room which is quite clearly a mess.

At best he's not helping sort it, and at worst he's an active part of it. The opposite of what a captain should be doing.

Yeah, we need all the ball watchers we can pack into our penalty area.

This thread is basically redundant. No manager with any sense would take on this squad as it is today.  Maybe, if and when Charles and Stewart get fit,  things will look marginally better.
