I’ll never forget walking home from school and my Liverpool supporting friend saying he’d signed for us. Southampton. He met with Lawrie McMenemy at a local restaurant,the potters Heron, and was convinced to join us.

one of my biggest footballing heroes joined us. It was magical seeing him play for us week in,week out.
what side we had. 
And he was fantastic. Sad day to hear this.

I was ski-ing in Italy and received the news on a ski lift from a couple of Watford fans that Kevin Keegan had signed for Saints.
I thought it was a wind up until I was able to get hold of a Daily Mail the following day (no mobile phones in those days)
What a player!!
If we had been able to get hold of Peter Shilton a year earlier, I reckon we could have won the League and/or FA Cup.

It was world news European footballer of the year joining Saints.

Sadly he left under a cloud. He was in the Echo asking for us to buy season tickets and was going to be here, but then moved to Newcastle.

An amazing day when he signed for us. Totally unexpected. Everyone walking around in a daze and not believing it until it was the first item on the 6 o'clock news. He was a force of nature on the pitch and turned us into a big time club. I was there for the bicycle kick goal that never was.

I hope he can beat this awful disease that strikes at random.

I had the great pleasure of having dinner with Laurie and his dear Wife in hospitality while he recounted the story of how Keegan was courted at the Potters Heron and told he wasn’t leaving until he signed for us. Great memories.

He was before my time supporting Saints but I know he heavily influenced the person that got me supporting Saints in the 80s and I also read a lot about him on here and other places and know how massive of a signing he was for Saints. 

Cancer got my mother-in-law last year and it sucks so I hope Keegs still has a few months left yet, if not more.

Kevin Keegan was a hell of a player, low centre of gravity, powerful energy and incredible engine, the first modern English superstar. So privileged to have seen him in the red and white. Can’t imagine Saints will sign another current European Footballer of the year anytime soon, but even then it was absolutely surreal. That ten years after the FA Cup win allowed SFC to think anything was possible. 

About six or seven years ago my missus was running a corporate event with various speakers. Afterwards staff were clearing away and one old boy stayed behind helping putting chairs and tables etc. away. When Mrs Milton came home she said ‘this old chap offered to help us, didn’t want us to struggle, proper gentleman.’ Looked at a photos on her phone and there was KK - pure class 😊

I hope Kev beats the bastard disease, the same way he sorted Billy Bremner!

I saw him play just before he signed for Liverpool. I had been roped in by a lab technician who covered Cambridge United's home games for the local hospital radio. I was asked to give the half time summary but (spoiler alert) I was useless. I do remember though the Scunthorpe number ten (?) Who ran around a lot making a nuisance of himself. Then I saw his name again when he signed for Bill Shankly.

The other time that I saw him apart from when he was playing was when I was taking a Danish customer of mine into Romsey for lunch. Keegan drove out of Cupernham Lane from the right. I think he lived somewhere up there. He was driving a gold Rolls Royce.

It was an incredible signing for Saints,  absolutely loved it ! What a boost for us fans that was .

Stage 4 is not good but hope he gets a bit of respite .

Not just the skill. But also his sheer work rate, fitness and determination. Attributes that helped shape him as a person. Qualities he carried right through to his management. 

I can only hope he has as long as possible at a high quality of life left.

Spot on. He was a truly remarkable footballer plus Superstars with Channon and Brian Jacks et al. (the bike!), Brut 33 with Henry Cooper, road safety and every national campaign, legend at Liverpool with Toshack and Mighty Mouse and Euro footballer of the year at Hamburg! A national treasure well before Saints!
