Sounds like Jander still a doubt, was at the training session today but (I'm.told) joined in later than most of the players. Leaves us stretched with Shea having departed. Confirms to me that we need a Shea replacement, pretty sure the Club think so too.

Peretz, Bree, THB, Stephens, Manning, Bragg, Downes, Matsuki, Azaz, Scienza, Larin

Long, Welington, Wood, Jander? Akachukwu, Dobbin, Fellows, Archer, Mubama.

I watched Watford's League Cup game against my local side Crawley Town, and they were utter dogshit. We shoudn't even concede a throw-in against them.

1-0 defeat incoming, you're welcome

Ah, can't wait for this one.

Team pretty much picks itself doesn't it? Only real decision is Dobbin or Azaz, who replaces Jander if he's not fit, Matsuki or Fellows, and is Larin fit enough to start?

For me:

Peretz

Bree THB Stephens Manning

Downes Bragg

Fellows Azaz Scienza

Larin

😆

Would be very typical

However, they are not too confident

It seems Irankunda, who scored that worldy of a free kick towards the end of last season's away game won't be playing as he looks to be joining Sporting

Good. One on my 'skill spots' memories from last season was him running towards our goal, ball at feet and defenders bouncing off him. Very talented, strong player. Don't need him playing against us.

Genuinely why the pessimism? We are on a 19 game unbeaten run and have lost two players who weren't necessarily first choice. We have also replaced one of them. We may well lose but I'm not sure why you wouldn't be positive. I'm certainly expecting us to have a better start than last season given all the upheaval and how calm things have been this summer (particularly considering how the season ended.)

A few things. Last season was exceptional, the second half anyway, it will be a big ask to continue that.

We didn’t have bad injuries to key players.

I think Ross and Shea were far more important than is being generally recognised.

As for replacing Stewart, I assume that’s what you mean, we’ll have to wait and see how that works out.

The top end of the league is more competitive

we are starting on minus 4

if any of our best players leave it could change things.

Watford are a horrible team to play, especially in their turf.

I wouldn’t describe myself as pessimistic, just guarded.

I think your summary is spot on, it also feels like we could be disrupted by outgoing transfer speculation over the next few weeks

I was responding to a question. It’s not my intention to bring other supporters around to my way of thinking. As I said in the first post, I am normally ridiculously And unrealistically over optimistic.

It was a perfectly reasonable response TS. It highlighted quite a few key facts from last season.

When we are still in the bottom five after five games the melt downs are going to be huge.

This season is going to tough. Buckle up Dorothy.

He just confirmed we are definitely looking to replace Charles (in the market, not from within)

That was quite Unequivocal. "Will you be replacing Charles?" "Yes."

Will be interesting to see who ends up as Shea's replacement. Big boots to fill so I would hope we get someone who is a good fit and enhances the squad because Shea is a big loss.

Tonda very cheerful and up-beat

I was really impressed with him in the conference, there was an air of confidence around him that he didn't have when he came in last year (to be expected) - not defiance or arrogance just a man who is going about his work and is confident in what he was doing.  Was good to see.

I expect it's too late but Jordan James would arguably be an upgrade...

Agree. Surprised we've not been linked with him. Hopefully have some other targets of quality in our sights.

Saints mentioned as expressing an interest in him in this article...

Tonda, Presser....

  • We are ready to start the season. Last game in the cup was important for this
  • We had a big training session today, and the game being on Sunday allowed for that
  • THB is exactly the same in training as he always is
  • A transfer window always being these moments. Not just for Taylor, as others performed to a high level
  • First time I saw Divine back to my times at the u21s. He is a clear No.9 and is very ambitious
  • Stronger left foot but can finish on either foot
  • He has prepared himself well before coming in, knowing his new team mates and their preferences
  • Cyle is a lot further physically compared to when he arrived in Jan. He is ready to play a little more
  • Cyle does not see Divine as a rival, more a player to help develop
  • We have players to move on, that is the reality at every club.
  • There is a very good good core here and we will assume the squad will be smaller in 2 weeks, lots of conversations taking place
  • No senior players will take part in the U21s tomorrow, but we will watch
  • The Watford manager is someone I know from Italy. You can see what he is trying to implement in his team during pre-season
  • There are some similarities at Watford compared to his time as Sassuoalo
  • Jander is the only one who is a doubt, it will be a late decision if he can make some minutes on Sun
  • Other than that we look good and strong. We have not had many issues in pre season
  • It is a luxury to have the attackers we have. We need to impact games from the bench
  • Hopefully we will have a quick pitch but either way it will be tough
  • We do have quality to come from the bench and we will use it
  • I prefer the squad to be a bit smaller. Everyone we sign needs to be right
  • There are a couple from the academy knocking on the door
  • but I do not expect we will do a lot more this window, but we will replace Charles in the market
  • There are different ways to react to the spying situation. We as a group have come closer, that is clear in pre season
  • We are certain away games will feel different, we know there will be difficulties to face
  • The FA process is what it is. We have been responding when needed, but I feel it not a big distraction
  • The timeline is up to the FA, we simply do not know. When we know we will communicate this
  • If I get a significant ban that is a matter for the club to decide what to do next
  • Always important to get a strong start, maybe a little bit more important this season
  • we have not started well in any recent season, usually as the squad has changed a lot
  • It is different this year, the core group is consistent
  • Everything is there to start strong so we must do it, starting Sunday
  • The fans reaction means everything to me. It is legitimate to be negative towards me
  • You never know going into the summer what the reaction is when you come back
  • I am grateful for all of the support and want to make everyone proud
