Tonda and then coaches need to find a new tactic to counter when a team does not press our CB’s, we seen to struggle to find and alternative way to play though them, this was very evident yesterday

Yeah we're missing Feb - May 2026 version of Stewart but if he'd signed up again we'd all have known he was a muscle pull away from weeks in the treatment room, it was right in the end to move on from him just a shame neither Mubama or Dobbin appear to be what we need for the role

Our away performances have looked so shaky , its what had me pulling my hair out reading smug pre match posts on here "who couldn't see past anything but a Saints win" totally ignoring all the evidence in front of their eyes , likewise those ITK knew we'd struggle with Keiffer Moore

The trouble is, it’s not just about Mubama - it’s about the players around him and their suitability to his style of play. That could also mean of course that he gets fewer chances when lesser players like Edozie come on too. You have to question whether Mubama has been brought in to adapt to our system or is Eckhert and his system too inflexible to adapt to Mubama? And that in turn doesn’t even address the fact that Mubama himself is a developing player - he’s probably 3-5 years from gaining his best form so expectations from many are just too high right now.

Gary Neville has just said ‘never walk on a football pitch’………….he’d go mad if he saw how we play! He’s absolutely right though and this is just one of our problems

Obviously this is a bit of a leap, but I wonder if they are both signings courtesy of Ankerson's brothers data system and whether that's why all of a sudden Ankerson resigned because he's wasted more of Dragan's money.

Some teams focus generally on cheaper, less skilled players that have heightened levels of stamina. Some teams focus on more expensive, ball playing individuals that cost more but are not gifted with high stamina/fitness. Coaching skills differ for each team type, with high data lead systems featuring for the latter teams. As holistic team stamina can be found wanting in the latter style teams, high levels of possession are generally required to manage the team across 90+ minutes.

No prizes for guessing what type of team Saints are?

Yeah and 1 goal should've been enough to win that game because they created next to nothing. Until we tighten up at the back we won't be going anywhere.

Fair comment, although I was responding to a post that implied we didn't know what to do with the ball, when it was actually a very good performance with the ball, save for finishing.

Heard that and immediately thought of us. We do far too much walking football especially when Capn Jack plays.

On Saturday we missed our chances. Had we not done so it would have been a comfortable 3 points. Just one of those days.

This seems a revisionist interpretation, or a forum special of a players ability and reputation improving once not available. 
 

Archer has shown very little in two years to suggest he could be relied on, apart from his late appearance at Swansea and one game after. Not enough.

If you said should have kept him and not spent £9m on Dobbin you’d have a point, but a CF and goalscoring Larin deputy he most certainly wasn’t.

Seems to be a common theme away from home this season. 
 

But agree, take the chances and talk of tactics etc wouldn’t be raised. Yesterday’s result was on our wasteful players. And those responsible for recruitment

Combine Archer's fitness and pace with Stewart's finishing and you nearly get a decent player - but either of them as they are?

I actually thought Archer looked quite decent at the end of last season and scored a few important goals.

He's a confidence player - seemed to regain it and then we loaned him out. Seemed a poor move to me, given we failed to sign a replacement.

I think it's more the style we've chosen to play. Archer, and to a degree Mubama, tend to run onto balls in the final third. We have a system of working the ball into the box slowly with lots of players. They were never going to thrive. 

 We did the same thing with Onuachu, we didn't play to his strengths and ping crosses into him like Trabzonspor have done. 

If we're going down the Larin hold up play route, we should've brought in someone ready made for that. Having to get Mubama to learn how to do that is a cockup.

Yesterday was a bit gutting, but I said before they scored that we will pay for not converting one of those chances before they scored. I also said that their best chance of scoring will be a set piece or a judgment of error at the back. Then we got level and me like everyone else thought here we go we will push on, but as the clock ticked down this is more than likely going to go down to a sucker punch of a goal from them in the last few minutes. 

We played really well, but if you do not take your chances and show a little more urgency up top and do not stop the rot when it comes to defending set pieces and crosses into the box you are going to drop points especially away from home. 

We have 2 weeks to try and put this right, and just show a little more urgency and determination in front of goal, so many of our shots were powder puff and weak or lacked directional accuracy. 

A very frustrating afternoon but we played really well. Just needs to come together a bit more for the full clicking into place. Was great to see JWP get on the scoresheet.

I was thinking that part of the reason why Stewart and Larin worked so well as a pair is the fact that they both started their fair share of games. There were periods when I thought Stewart was our best number nine, and other times I thought it was Larin.

With the start Larin has had, it has been very difficult to start him on the bench, but I think this is the only way it will work like last season. A striker number two is never going to have the same inpact coming on at the end of games, if that is all he is doing. Mubama will never come good if all he does is come on from 60 to 85 minute in games.
