Gemmel Posted 6 February, 2009 Share Posted 6 February, 2009 Saints march to Jersey Championship side Southampton F.C. will visit Jersey for a friendly match on Monday 9th February 2009 at Springfield Stadium. Kick off is 7.30pm against the Jersey FA senior island men's side. There are numerous links between Southampton F.C. and the Jersey F.A. Mr Michael Wilde is the current Chairman of Saints whilst also being the Jersey FA main sponsor through his company the Wilde Family Office Limited. A number of Jersey's most promising youngsters having been invited to attend trials and pre season training weeks at the South Coast Club. This past week one of our most promising youngsters in our Centre, goalkeeper Euan Van der Vliet has been offered an academy contract at Saints until the end of the season. Significantly in recent weeks has been the signing by Southampton of Jack Boyle has been signed on a six month contract and who, will now return to the island to face his former teammates in the red and white of Saints rather than his beloved Jersey for whom he has featured so prominently in the past season, including his match winning performance in last' year's Muratti whilst being watched from the stands by Michael Wilde. The 20 man Saints squad and backroom staff will arrive in the island on Monday lunchtime and will return late Tuesday afternoon and it is anticipated that several current first team players will be included in the visiting party. A community coaching session will also take place with a couple of local primary schools which is being organised by Dave Kennedy and will be attended by Saints coaching staff and it is hoped some of the Southampton players will also be involved. Ricky Weir, Jersey FA President, told channelonline.tv; "Through our extremely close links with Southampton FC we are delighted to have secured this exciting fixture. There is a large Saints support in the island and with the strong expectation that they will bring across some first team players we would expect local Saints fans to turn out in force to support them. In turn there is the massively exciting prospect of seeing the return to Springfield of our very own Jack Boyle in Saints colours to face many of his team mates with whom he celebrated his first and most memorable muratti victory last May. Our utmost thanks go to our main sponsor Michael Wilde of the Wilde Family Office Limited and Flybe's Ian Taylor who have generously and jointly sponsored this match and without whose support such a fixture would not be taking place. Thanks also go to Bruno Carpenter of the Hotel Ambassadeur Hotel who has offered accommodation to the travelling party at an extremely generous rate http://www.channelonline.tv/channelonline_football/DisplayArticle.asp?ID=384837
eelpie Posted 6 February, 2009 Share Posted 6 February, 2009 I think this is all very positive. Whatever our current situation we must keep developing links with all sources that can continue to feed talent to us.

Winchester Exile Posted 6 February, 2009 Share Posted 6 February, 2009 Personally I'd like to show my thoughts about Wilde on Monday but don't want to embarass myself. Thought about booing or hissing him but if I'm on my own then I'm not particulary keen. Thoughts please
NickG Posted 6 February, 2009 Share Posted 6 February, 2009 politely ask for a word, ask him where the investment went? ask him how did Lowe convince him that he was a better man than Crouch, to such an extent that he was willing to take the obvious criticism following him hounding Lowe out in the first place. Winchester Exile Posted 6 February, 2009 Share Posted 6 February, 2009 Yep I live in Jersey and want to let him know (non-violently) what I feel i.e. that he's been a main contributor to the downfall of the club I've loved for 35 years. For me he's worse than Lowe. At least with Lowe you get a wolf in wolf's clothing. With Wilde I'm not sure what you get but it ain't good.
hypochondriac Posted 6 February, 2009 Share Posted 6 February, 2009 Ask him if he is aware of the planned boycotts and the march last week where well over 1000 attended. Ask him if he would have sacked Pearson with hindsight. Ask him if he is aware just how many fans want him out. Ask him if he appreciates the title "Quisling". capitalsaint Posted 6 February, 2009 Share Posted 6 February, 2009 Despite what views I might have about Lowe etc, I think this is a great idea. It reminds me of the traditional 'family club' that we once were, if only the current board had treated the rest of us with the same level of respect. Just and idea, but what are the chances of the board doing a Wimbledon and turning us into the Jersey Saints? Stranger things have happened... Raven on the wing Posted 6 February, 2009 Share Posted 6 February, 2009 I lived in Guernsey (not Jersey who are arch rivals ! ) between 1990-1995 and Saints sent a strong team to play against them whilst I was there. Carl Le Tissier (one of Matts brothers ) chipped Tim Flowers for one of their goals ! It finished about 10-3 to Saints I think with Matt also scoring. We were in the Prem at the time and it was a good , well supported occasion - hope this one is as well.

I know someone on here who occassionally meets up for a beer with him I would be more than happy to debate his failure to his face. He ought to know (and often) how let down and demoralised the fans are and how the gloom would start to lift if he resigned and sold his shares. SaintRichmond Posted 9 February, 2009 Share Posted 9 February, 2009 Ahhh so my idea of just giving him a good kick in the nuts is probably a non-starter then...! You are of course assuming he has nuts to kick ........ they disappeared long ago, as did ALL Male PLC Shareholders ( Most likely, the only Football Match he can attend, bearing in mind he is a wanted man at St Mary's )

And ask him if he is aware of the apparent groundswell of opinion amongst ST holders who will NOT renew whilst he and Rupert are still at the club. This in some respects must/should be the most worrying thing for them. A lot of ST holders (like me) will renew even if/when we are relegated because we are first and foremost Saints fans, but will not if Spongebob and Patrick are still there. Victor Posted 9 February, 2009 Share Posted 9 February, 2009 Presumably Wilde is too scared to come to SMS now in case he is killed, so he gets the team to go to him. How are the boys in blue getting on with their investigation, by the way - anyone been arrested yet?

Saint 76er Posted 9 February, 2009 Share Posted 9 February, 2009 Presumably Wilde is too scared to come to SMS now in case he is killed, so he gets the team to go to him. How are the boys in blue getting on with their investigation, by the way - anyone been arrested yet? Must admit I do find this surprising that for such a serious matter nothing further has been heard, at least publicly. Whilst I appreciate the OB don't carry out investigations in public, it is hard to escape the conclusion that "someone" put all that stuff out in the media immediately before the demo march and it had the distinct whiff IMO of being leverage to discredit the "lunatic fringe". I sincerely hope the alleged threats against Wilde were in fact not true, however "Death threats against SFC chairman"... surely that must be the biggest story the Echo are going to run for a long time, but since breaking the story (just before the march)... nothing but silence. Maybe the police have clamped down on them, but no further word on such a dramatic story? Still, perhaps it's being held over until prior to the Preston march...... trousers Posted 9 February, 2009 Share Posted 9 February, 2009 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/articles/article.php?page_id=11342 Saints' match in Jersey this evening has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, and the team have not made the trip to the Channel Islands. The decision was taken late this morning, with the team already at the airport, and comes on the back of Saturday's first team match against Watford also being postponed due to bad weather. Interesting to see an obscure reserve team match getting much more publicity on the OS than a slightly less obscure 1st team friendly match against a Hungarian top league side (who we happened to beat 5-2); a game which was reportedly switched to SMS to shmooze a potential investor and which coincidentally happened to be the last game that Poortvliet started in charge... Innocent inconsistent coverage of Saints friendlies on the OS or...."something else"....? Hmmm.... p.s. the Wolves website had several reports and pictures from THEIR friendly with Ujpest. When was the last time the club didn't sing a 5 - 2 victory from the rooftops....? Hmmmmm..... (again)

Very good at the level he is playing at although as others have shown this season its a bit of a jump to the first team. A bit lightweight but in the games I have seen far more promising than Smith.
