spyinthesky Posted 11 March, 2009 Share Posted 11 March, 2009 Unfortunately I think the 'Total Football/Youth Team' experiment will lead us to Div1 next season. Assuming this nightmare scenario happens, will be interested in any thoughts of likely player departures I guess a lot will depend on contract details/saleability of players and, of course, wages but can see the following leaving Kelvin Davis (for a fee?) Size (on loan currently?) Skachel (free) Saga (free) Euell (free) W Phillips (free) Schneiderlin (for a fee?) Guess these seven would save approx £2.5m in wages plus whatever transfer fees could be acheived. Surman & Llalana are also likely to go but dont think they have enhanced their values with recent displays. Gasmi,Smith & Liptak are loanees I think. Neither Gasmi or Smith have impressed. Liptak might be worth a go in Div 1 if wages cheap. Rasiak and Dyer are effectively gone. Perry I would like to keep but he is 38 next year and that may count against him. Wooton is probably on about £5/£6K a week but, I believe, signed a 2 or 3 year contract so may not be easy to get rid of. Assuming the rest of our 'youngsters' stay, it will be imperative to supplement these lads with experienced players able to stand up to the physical strains of Div 1/ Leicester have been successful by holding on to a basis of their experienced players from last season plus loan players. Even if a miracle happens and we do stay up can see quite a few changes next year.

badgerx16 Posted 11 March, 2009 Share Posted 11 March, 2009 So the core of the squad will be the least effective parts of this year's revolution, in a division with even more emphasis on size and strength
dubai_phil Posted 11 March, 2009 Share Posted 11 March, 2009 And if we go down anyone on any salary will be gone for anything we can get. And also anyone with more than a few games experience 50k here or there will help the liquidator's fees No matter how well Wotte does if we drop, kiss goodbye to at least 50% of the coaching staff, as well as the bulk of the Academy machinery as we simply won't be able to afford it. Best bet then is a manager with lower league experience to find freebies and loans to help out the likes of Mills Gobern et al Playing staff will be dictated by money and we won't have any

aintforever Posted 11 March, 2009 Share Posted 11 March, 2009 Doing a Luton could be a frightening reality if we dont get new ownership if we go down. If Lowe is still making the descisions after our 10 point deduction in League 1 I would put money on a relegation again.
NickG Posted 11 March, 2009 Share Posted 11 March, 2009 I don't think we will go into administration if we go down
aintforever Posted 11 March, 2009 Share Posted 11 March, 2009 I don't think we will go into administration if we go down I think it would be unavoidable, we are losing money in this league I don't see how we could surviive on a fraction of the gate receipts, TV money etc. The mortgage will cripple us IMO. I think the cost of the repayments are the equivilent to the income from having 6000 at £20 a head for every home game. We will probably see gates of around 8-10,000 under Lowe in league 1. Kadeem Hardison Posted 11 March, 2009 Share Posted 11 March, 2009 Surman & Llalana are also likely to go but dont think they have enhanced their values with recent displays. I'm pretty sure most clubs aren't as reactionary or short-sighted in their judgements of players as many Saints fans.

Surman has been tremendous in recent weeks. Poor yesterday but any Premiership scout looking at him for left midfield would have seen great potential. Smirking_Saint Posted 12 March, 2009 Share Posted 12 March, 2009 We will be seriously in the poo if we go down what with less money etc etc and so changes are innevitable but then we are equally in the poo if we stay up ? I am normally optimistic but if we stay up i still see the core of our players moving on especially with the older guys that have probably lost faith in the club, which pretty much means a re-run of this season. As for admin and potential investors i can't see one coming in for us in this financial climate. Either way i could cry.
broncoboy Posted 13 March, 2009 Share Posted 13 March, 2009 If we stay up we will need to cut our costs so the more expensive players will be gone as we are losing money each month. If we go down it means less revenue and therefore this has got to mean a clear out of any player we can sell or get rid of. I think the stadium mortgage makes it difficult for us to run the club in a lower division at a break even level. The truth of the matter is we need a board who puts money into the club. Its laughable we have to put up with tossers like Wilde and Lowe and live with their arrogance and incompetence and they dont even have the saving grace of having invested in the club. But of course they do pay themselves. However it is better to be in this divison so come on Saints get us a result on Saturday
david in sweden Posted 13 March, 2009 Share Posted 13 March, 2009 ..........a while back, someone said that we have the best U14 side ever. Apparantly they hadn't lost a game in over 2 years.! so ....why do we need an Academy for 16-19 year olds, eh ?

Charlie Wayman Posted 13 March, 2009 Share Posted 13 March, 2009 Evidently Everton and Villa are in a race to sign Surman. Wonder if they were at the game last night. Perhaps the loser will get him? Only, kidding Drew we all love you really and no doubt you'll be the star tomorrow. In fairness to our players, if they are not good enough collectively to stay in the CCC why should they expect to jump ship when we go down. All those deserters who fled at the first sound of gunfire, i.e., when we dropped out of the Prem are now very busy trying to drag Stoke City back down. I don't get Pullis, on air he seems to have half a brain but why did he sign a load of washed-up old farts from a failed Southampton team that couldn't stay up, if his ambition is to keep Stoke City up?
