londonsaint1604 Posted 2 April, 2009 Share Posted 2 April, 2009 from the day Ru**rt returned there was only ever 1 possible outcome. This is it. Not really because the wage bill was already about 80% of turnover.
St Marco Posted 2 April, 2009 Share Posted 2 April, 2009 Have to agree with Offix. Nobody wanted this club to go into admin, and if they did they never cared about this club. But the reason for going into admin was inevitable with the return of Lowe and Wilde. They decided to come back with no money, no real plan, and a change in football system. The club needed investment. That was the only way this club would of continued. Lowe has never put money into the club nor found investment. Wilde has never put money into the club or found investment. The two previous boards both said without investment this club is fooked. The old board found Sisu who would of put £20m into the club. They rejected it. Crouch's board were seeking investment and had numerous discussions with groups. When Lowe and Wilde returned the 1st thing they did was to stop talking to investors saying "time to put up or shut up". They thought they could fix the problems in house and without the need for investment. So i myself am not pro-admin, but i find it tragic that the only way Lowe would give up on his grasp of power is for this to happen. If this club was put into admin a year or so ago as the admin team said "we would be very confident of finding a buyer as Southampton FC is a lucrative prospect". If Lowe had not returned and we acted then to sell as Crouch was trying then i do not think we would be where we are now. I still think we will be bought out and we will be ok. Just it will not be by some Paul Allen with someone who can plough millions into the club, invest in better players and so on. We will need to re-build pretty much from scratch. But we all knew that was coming.

Give it to Ron Posted 2 April, 2009 Share Posted 2 April, 2009 Not really because the wage bill was already about 80% of turnover. That is only correct for a short period of time. Its mentioned in the AGM notes it certainly was not the case for the 2 years or so he was gone according to Dave Jones and he would know more than you or I. norwaysaint Posted 2 April, 2009 Share Posted 2 April, 2009 Ironically, the man who thinks we should be stricter against people who make protests he finds offensive, has almost certainly been banned for making offensive comments. It's what he would've wanted.

He was never particularly offensive, his ideas were sometimes offensive to most but not his method of expressing them. Alpine banned as well? that would be too shoddy, both the administration now wallahs banned on the day it finally happened.

Alanh Posted 2 April, 2009 Share Posted 2 April, 2009 The two most vociferous advocates of admin were Stanley and Alpine. Both felt that it was inevitable and so we should proactively pursue it voluntarily. I'm pretty sure the likes of SaintRobbie and SaintRichmond have also been fully supportive of the admin. Cabrone Posted 2 April, 2009 Share Posted 2 April, 2009 So i myself am not pro-admin, but i find it tragic that the only way Lowe would give up on his grasp of power is for this to happen. It's exactly as I expected it would be, Lowe is such a stubborn ass he was always going to cling on till the bitter end. Like a cancer he could not be removed without major surgery and I'm still not sure whether he will go for good even after this. Indeed it is a really sad state of affairs. But, rightly or wrongly, in their minds it was a 'no choice' scenario. i.e. "Admin was inevitable so let's stop burying how heads in the sand and accept it's going to happen". My understanding of the thrust behind this thread is that the likes of Stanley & co (whether wind ups or not) were that they were making a choice between "Admin" or "no Admin". There's a subtkle difference between WANTING admin when there is a viable, more attractive alternative versus making a judgement that Admin is inevitable. Difficult to articulate but I believe there is a difference.

cf saint Posted 2 April, 2009 Share Posted 2 April, 2009 There were plenty of people who seemed to think administration was acceptable if it got rid of Lowe - i rarely post but did to respond to that because i have seen how administration can really screw things up. It may or may not do that with Saints but it is high risk and a few months back a lot of people seemed to think administration was a harmless panacea. People like Stanley understood the risk of administration but thought it worth taking and although i dont have that view i respect it. I have less time for those who wanted rid of Lowe at all costs yet now are worried the club may fold - of course it can. So i guess in a months time if the club survives this forum will be full of people claiming it was their actions that rid the club of Lowe whereas now apparently it was only Stanley and Alpine that really wanted this. Likewise when we fill SMS for the last 3 games I am sure there will be 15,000 returning "because Lowe has gone" - yet if it all goes tits up there were only 2 posters who really wanted that.... I am glad I stayed away for a few weeks Yes Im saddened at the mess the club are in but I think we will be ok in the long term even if it means playing in a lower division for a season or two
Under Weststand Posted 2 April, 2009 Share Posted 2 April, 2009 I seem to think there were 1or 2 who where vociferously in support of Admin & a few who where open to it, I think most while expecting it had hoped it wouldn't happen & until someone breaks cover to take us over I will stay extremely concerned. I feel as some have said if we get someone in it wont be a multi millionaire to wipe the debt out. But if they can just remove the overdraft & put us on a stable footing & begin to re-build & start the healing process that will do for me. alpine_saint Posted 2 April, 2009 Share Posted 2 April, 2009 I stand by every single word I have ever written on the subject of administration. Administration was inevitable under the sort of vision Lowe had. SFC was finished as footballing and community force under Lowe. The club may now be facing an uncertain future, but if a buyer can be found at least it has a chance for a future

I thought we would get through the season but go into admin if we were relegated. What I still can not phathom is, if Barclays lowered the overdraft in October and we didn't manage to cut our costs through the January transfer window, affectively strangling the operation, why not go for administration then? We might have been through the worst and coming out the other side by now.
