Agree - watched some Championship games on Sky this season and there is not much between Championship and League 1. But the Championship to bottom of Premier League is a huge step up.

Got to be Fonte - classy and consistent. When I think back to the lean years when, after Claus and Killer, we were desperate for a half-decent centre half . . . . . . what a joy to see Fonte in the starting line up evey week alongside Jaidi. BTW, Fonte for Captain next season.

Saints were unlucky not to be more than 1 up at HT after hitting the post twice, but were no better than average. In the second half Saints started very slow and Swindon upped their game. Harding let Ritchie cut inside to scorer ather than keeping him wide then Swindon were on top and Saints looked wobbly. Two good set pieces made the game safe and shots towards the end could have made the score more emphatic. Barnard scored a good late goal and needs to start the next 2 away games. Barnard and Spider made a difference as Hammond was having a poor game.

Armstrong definitely an attacking midfielder with a great left foot. Scored 71 goals in 272 appearances for Saints and twice got 15 in a season. I thought £600k was a lot when he signed but he was worth every penny.

Some new arrivals start off poor and stay poor players for Saints - J Wright, Belmadi, Davenport, Molyneaux, Neil McCann, Ryan Smith. Some new arrivals start off poor and get better - Antonio, Guly, Butterfield as recent examples. Give the new lad time and give him a break.

Davis is a good shot stopper but always reluctant to leave his line and command his area when crosses come in. Tranmere got a goal because David did not come for a bouncing ball in his goal area. The P'boro 2nd goal was a long cross from deep on the left across the goal area and again Davis stayed on his line and it cost us a goal. Contrast the game v ManU when Bart came out and fisted clear. Time to give Bart a run in league games after good performances in the cup games.

What a great time to be a Saint's fan! Second in the division, scoring loads of goals, Lallana signs a 4.5 year contract, and we beat a Premier team without some of our first choice players. Well done Nigel and team.

Exeter commentators were full of praise for Saints and said Saints for automatic promotion.

I can't think of a game when Hammond has dominated midfield or really made a difference to a match outcome. He is definitely a trier but lacks a good forward pass (most of his are sideways or backwards and he usually plays the ball the way he happens to be facing) and he lacks pace. With Hammond and Spider we have two midfielders who are slow and don't break forward to support the attack. That's why Chaplow has made such a difference and in my view H & S are not the right midfield combination and I would be happy to see both go and someone brought in to play MF with Chaplow.

Bringing on a sub with only a few minutes to go is stupid. Looks like NA has no idea how to change a game that is slipping away as it was clear at HT that his game plan was not working.
