  1. So how does Townsend compare to Isgrove in the footballing stakes? Also Rodriguez should be back in about 8 weeks.
  2. I wonder when we'll have the majority of an England team that has come through the Saints academy? Possible current England selections: Shaw, Lallana, Walcott and Oxo Perhaps we'll see the potential breakthrough of Chambers and Ward-Prowse over the next few seasons. Who else could make it over the next few years? A great statement and should be seen as the number one choice for the best English (and other home countries) youngsters to come to for success so the club should have the best pick.
  3. Because most of those that enter wouldn't be Saints fans so go for that angle. Entirely predictable as are the photos from the game with a big club in the guardian, of the dozen or so shots, only three were of Saints in a 'good light'.
  4. A shame the TV has to rely on footballer names to act as pundits. Some of the journalists I've come across are good at expressing views and tactics better than the most.

  6. Or the fact if we could have kept them, the wage bill would have gone sky high and the sustainability of the club would be in jeopardy without a player sale. The club cannot win.
  7. Ah, an u21, so doesn't count!
  8. JWP
  9. Who needs a fan on the board when we have this kind of influence. Next time the forum grumbles, the board will take note.
  10. I blame the rise in assessment management courses you can get on the web, all these wannabe investment bankers! The quote I like from the article is this: “There are still weeks to go in the transfer window and a lot might happen,” Krueger says. “Our goal is to finish this transfer window where you can say, ‘Actually they’ve got a plus now. They are a stronger team than they were before’.
  11. The only action that will stop the negative view is signing some good players in the positions needed.
  12. I would give the club a call, you never know you maybe able to get something special. I met and had a chat with MLT when I went down there for the first time! Of course it might be all different now.
  13. Jason McCarthy?
  14. There was a bad influence and a small clique formed at the lodge where the students didn't train or study as they should. Around the time Nile Ranger was there I believe, there was a bit of a clear out IIRC!
  15. I thought it was the Manager... ?
  16. Reports (Guardian, DT) are that there is a buy out clause (£10m - which seems expensive). I think it's good signing especially with Mat coming through and getting a few PL games and cup games to gain experience. If he does well then make permanent at the end of the season. The position that does need a good quality signing is CB, so happy to save the money for that position now the club are a sustainability no debt route.
  17. Actually, I wonder how long he will be at the club. It's easy to come out with these statements if he's not here next week.
  18. It's the Love of money which is the root of all evil.
  19. Left wing, fullback or wingback so would fit in with RK's tactics. Played county level and have one FA cup appearance! Only one issue, I'd only be able last about 20 minutes.
  20. It would be great to keep the team but thinking the club are now going for the sustainability model from now on, so it means player sales. It's been good to watch the youngster come through and compete at the highest level. It means the conveyor belt will continue to produce top talent as kids will see it as a fantastic opportunity to learn and develop, play PL footy and to then go to a big club who can pay them thousands and offer European football. Maybe one season we'll be able to start keeping them for longer having earn so much and be more competitive because of it!
  21. It's a get out clause, I have trousers which say dry clean and have washed on a 30 degree machine wash for years and they have been fine, they only wear out a little bit quicker but certainly worth it.
  22. Or, just think how many saints and ex-saints you can have in your fantasy football team now!
  23. I didn't know this... Shaw earning a basic wage of £100,000 a week at United, making the 19-year-old the highest paid teenager in the world. From a guardian article... http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/jul/26/louis-van-gaal-to-speak-with-jose-mourinho-over-luke-shaw puts things in perspective on who Saints can retain. Hopefully in a couple of years time, the big five will not have space in their squad to buy anymore of our youngsters and we can keep them for a bit!
