Does anyone know how the Green Bay Packers are getting on?...

Pretty much a perfect analogy :-)

I couldn't care less whether we are in the Europa League or the Champions League, the goal for Saints as a progressive club should be to be competitive in all competitions. This means investment in a strong squad of players to avoid the drop that usually follows a cup win and foray into the Europa, but whether we qualify via league position or cup we should go for it. The club needs silverware and the best way to build history, gain fans, and expand has to be via the trophy cabinet - the feel good factor that followed the FA Cup win in 1976 lasted for almost a decade, and 50,000 odd fans at the JPT suggests that success, even minor success, galvanises and gives identity to the club / project. We would have beaten Arsenal in the FA Cup Final. Get Yakin or Koeman in Ralph, f*ck off any player that doesn't want to be part of our trophy hunting mentality, buy quality and depth and b*lls out to win...

Regarding the second para have a look at Yakin's two games in Europe against Chelsea, Wes. All of the pointers you make were visible in those games, plan a, b, and c. I think Yakin and Koeman would be major upgrades on Pochettino in terms of presence and tactics, and pray that the Board are all over this...

The acid test is speed of appointment of the new manager - this is absolutely crucial given the ride the fans have had over the past month. Pochettino has been ****ing about since the new year and anyone with a modicum of business acumen will have been window shopping the best available candidates. The appointment must have real impact - Koeman, Yakin, or Laudrup - to turn heads (all three have achieved more in the game than Pochettino). The playing staff must then be informed that the drive for success goes on, and that nobody under contract goes anywhere unless the bid is acceptable (i.e ludicrous). The new manager must be provided with significant transfer funds to recruit the 'missing links' from last seasons threadbare squad, and further significant funds if senior players leave. Our aim next season should be go finish above Spurs and beat them home and away, oh, and the FA Cup for a bit of player/ manager / fans galvanising.

Poetry Special K, made total sense after a challenging day and cheered me right up!

Aguirre, Tuchel, Rosler, or Laudrup!...

Who do you reckon his coaches would be, Hulk Hogan and Steven Seagal, with the Farelly Bros as Director of Soccerballs!...

Can't we have a figurehead who knows what he is doing rather than an international work experience committee...

F*ck me there are some deluded c*nts on there - in a quarter of a century they've won the League Cup! If Pochettino goes there I'd give him until Christmas, in terms of a career move, less poison chalice and more poison gas! They don't do track-suit managers with potential at WHL, they do ego-massagers for frustrated itinerant players who feel they should be at genuinely big clubs. I hope this is sorted soon as it's making Saints look Mickey Mouse after an excellent season when we should reflecting on moving forward with a degree of confidence, not being used by a London obsessed media as an Aunt Sally!

Ron Atkinson is made for this role. Semi-retired elder statesman, high maintenance lifestyle, likes a laugh...

Did the club miss a trick by not appointing Williams or Purslow?
Miltonaggro replied to once_bitterne's topic in The Saints
Yes, that could have worked Badger. It seems that with Krueger and Hofstetter Katarina is appointing business people that she feels she can relate to / trust, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they are the right people to redirect a club in the upper third of the Premier League. Cortese had an advantage in that post takeover he couldn't fail to win over the fans at Saints, plus he had a three year 'apprenticeship' as the club moved up the leagues. As Saints fans we are all hopeful that KL has got it right, and that the new look board is about to pull a series of rabbits out of hats - but you can't help thinking that a wise head like Williams would have managed the fears and expectation of players and fans, just that little bit better. Plus for me, the local lad profile would have helped in Williams filling Cortese's (built up) shoes, he might even have been an upgrade on the 'master'... -

John Williams was the right man. Local lad (born in Totton) who knows about the history of Saints and the city, key to the rise and glory days at Blackburn in the 1990s, and good enough to be influential on the Board at the new model Manchester City in recent years. No brainer. So we appointed Ralph... -
Cortese speaking to BBC for first time since leaving Saints

Lol! 'Springtime for Cortese'... -
The media attention/hype doesn't quite make sense?
Miltonaggro replied to Saint86's topic in The Saints
As I've said before Pochettino has been good for Saints, but Saints have also been good for Pochettino. The pinnacle of his managerial career in Spain and England to date is finishing eighth in the Premier League. A number of Spurs fans see him as 'AVB without the trophies'! I think its the way Saints play and some of the scalps we have had during Poch's reign that draw attention, but both him and Lallana are in similar territory; stay at SFC and push on to upset the status quo whilst being idolised or join sides on the fringes of the status quo where it might work out, or go horribly, horribly wrong. Interesting times... -
Makes interesting reading, and if the view of the Tottenham fans is that Pochettino is just 'Andre Villas-Boas without the trophies' he may well be on a hiding to nothing there - and if he does defect to north London I hope (and expect) that to be the case...

The board should do it, tit for tat, every time a derisory bid for one of our stars comes in. Give the press a bit of a spin...
-
Reminds me of a young Dean Richards (wouldn't that be nice), would be a decent signing at £8-10m...
-
Just the sort of signing we need to compete with Boruc - two decent international keepers...
-
I sincerely hope that following the announcement that the Board intention is to under-promise and over-deliver on the kit. Something tells me that this could be a tad optimistic and we will have a homespun special.
-
Non-discriminatory too! A beacon of civil society. Wish I had found the passion to sign it...

Well done Goatboy - the voice of democracy in action!...

Reasons for Adam Lallana not to go to Liverpool
Miltonaggro replied to SaintPete's topic in The Saints
As far as I can remember he was diagnosed with MS in 1996/97 over three years after he left united. He had one season as first choice there directly after leaving Saints 89-90 before being dropped and replaced by Lee Sharpe, who was about 20. Remember it well as I loved him for Saints (along with Williams), and was gutted to see how his career developed after leaving the Dell... -

Plus Danny Wallace... -
His silly comment just goes to show how clueless the 'pundits' are when talking about any club outside of the usual suspects. I hope that what we see next season is rapid progression, rather than the expected capitulation!...
