  1. Must admit my affiliations tend to lie with another Newport, my birth place.
  2. Surely they would be more like a Spurs side with Kane, i.e. not scoring any goals. Actually don't think Vardy is the key, Mahrez is what is making them tick. Vardy had to have a lot of attempts before he scored twice on Saturday, some of his finishing was woeful (thankfully for Saints).
  3. Actually I missed that, more torrid than I thought.
  4. A point behind Newport County, The9 will be pleased 6 behind Torquay my second team (oh hang on, we aren't proper football supporters if we support more than one team, sorry Turkish) I recall it well, a week before I was christened
  5. Is there any real substance to this story? Apparently it came from the Sun, though there is no evidence of it online. Sounds like ****-stirring to me. As others have said, the Stephens loan at Middlesbro should be more of a concern, and Turnbull is having a torrid time at Swindon without his old mate (and now no manager).
  6. Correct, we found out against Everton what Tadic can do for us in this role. leaving Davis out exposes us because the energy, link-up play and pace is lost. Peronally would stick with front three of Tadic, Pelle and Mane, with the option to being JRod on as sub again. Think we will see midfield three of Vic, Clasie and Davis.
  7. Though no thanks to Hoddle, despite what Dalek might have you believe. Strange "article", really not much meat on the bones to back up the argument, as is often the case these days with these blog-type writers. There are no real trends or pointers within the group that suggest this is the recipe for middle-class security as the author suggests. It seems too early to me to include Leicester in this middle class, though I anticipate they will cement their place in the not-too-distant future.
  8. Actually it did Whitey (just), one of his longer efforts on the day
  9. Tell that to Ronald then. He is usually not one to blame individuals but directly blamed Kelv's kick for the 2nd goal during [at least] one of his post match interviews. We have to stop this idea of not blaming someone because he has been a loyal servant for many years, sentimental crap that has no place in the modern football business. The kick was not his only mistake during the game, but it was the one that ultimately cost us in terms of goals and points.
  10. "There is talk of an interest from Bologna, Lazio and Peñarol. Out of respect for the English club with which he is still under contract we avoid naming names." So are they naming names or not?
  11. Nothing wrong with your stats. He was suspended by the Club after his second game, after conceding 2nd goal against Spurs, allegedly for throwing a water bottle at fans behind the Chapel goal. He was not selected initially after the investigation was concluded on 8 November, until 8 December (Gazza initially took over in goal for League games (Kelvin played Capital One Cup game against Leeds that we won 3-0), Davis came back in during December with Boruc on the bench. Can't recall whether Gazza lost his place in December due to injury or anything, but he never made another appearance after 1st December despite a record of 5 wins, 3 draws and 3 defeats in his 11 starts). Boruc was back on 1 Jan, and played in every game until the end of the season with Kelv on the bench.
  12. Whether he was Cortese deal or not Adkins replaced Kelv with Artur as soon as he was able. I really don't go with this "Cortese deal" or "not Cortese deal", it is put about by a few "friends" on here who have an agenda against Cortese, anything bad, "Cortese", anything good, "not Cortese". In the end most things would have gone through Uncle Les. Bottom line is we were about 5 weeks into our Premier League return when we signed a replacement for Kelvin, then we had to wait about 3 or 4 weeks for that keeper to shed a few pounds beofre he made his debut. Then Artur lost his marbles and so we had to suffer again... Totally agree with you about that being an Adkins mistake, always found it odd with him being a keeper.
  13. It is looking hopeful, he had mentioned a week or so ago that things were going well. I wonder though whether he can kick? J-Rod was running a long time before last Christmas, I know he (Jay) got an infection but kicking is a whole other ball game (excuse the pun).
  14. I think the Skates would have given them a run for their money a few times though
  15. You do know only 5 clubs have ever won the PL, including Blackburn's single win. Leeds won the league (Division 1) more recently than Liverpool and were top 5 in the PL several times in the Noughties.
  16. You clearly have no idea about their relatively recent history. How could they be a yo-yo club before 1963, they were only relegated 3 times in 44 years. Their record attendance, nearly 58k. League Champs in 1992 (long after Revie) and PL top 5 on several occasions. Average attendances of about 39k 2000-2003, seriously get real mate. I do agree with you though that they are unlikely to get back to their glory times until there is a major change in the way the club is owned and managed.
  17. 1) Why? We live in a world of professional football, which is a business. We should not be sentimental about a keeper who was past his sell by date 3 years ago. 2) No he wasn't. He was on a level all of his own, and it was nowhere near the level required for a PL team. Plenty of players covered for Kelvin's mistakes, there were so many of them, primarily in the kicking department, but in the end the kick out that lead to their 2nd goal was a bridge too far.
  18. Beat me to it, though even Nige knows that Kelv is not up to it, after all it was Nige who brought in Boruc 3 years ago (debut anniversary today) to replace him.
  19. Leeds should be a Premier League side, no doubt. They aren't and won't be until they sort out their ownership and get someone sensible in place. But have no doubt, Leeds United are a massive club and should be top 8 at least. Its not a 1970s thing David, they won the league in 1992, the last season before the Premier League started. Ridsdale finally screwed them in 2001 and they were relegated in 2004. They haven't been lower league for as long as you may think. But they are going nowhere soonish, except maybe down. Still, no love lost there, dirty Leeds, and Norman 'bites yer legs' Hunter and all that. At least we don't get to see the 7-0 thingy as much while they are down amongst the dead men.
  20. And if you don't have 8 home grown over 21s you lose one of the squad places. Until we signed Caulker I think we only had 7 including Forster and Kelv. In the end it was a moot point, as we still have one spare place for an overseas player
  21. We also needed to register FF to allow us to register non home grown players. Think there is still a chance he may be fit before end of year from what I've read.
  22. He was possibly our first choice keeper from August to October 2012 (though Gazza also got a look in), when the Club belatedly realised the obvious and brought in Boruc. So thats 3 years since Saints realised Kelv was not good enough, and yet he is still seen as 2nd choice, and our 3rd choice who we have given a new extended contract to is still here and still is not deemed better than Kelv. It is a shocking indictment of Saints perspective on the goalkeeping position.
  23. Although interestingly he has not played in the last 2 U18 games, and was not even on the bench at the weekend. Last appeared for the U18s in the 5-1 defeat by Leicester.
  24. It really isn't about who goes to see it. Football or any sport for that matter should never be about spectators, it should be about the participants. If a lot of people go and support a team, great, but you seem to have lost the point of why people participate in sport. Southampton should be about being a successful, inclusive sports club, maybe not even just football. Sadly at the moment Saints are the only PL club other than ManU who do not have an associated women's team. If you don't want to actively support a women's team that is fine (I won't either) but you should support the club in its ambitions to grow and to provide a top class pathway for development of sports people within the City and region.
  25. Schmeichel got nowhere near it. Mane should have killed the game (see the highlights on the OS at 12.40) By the way VvD's goal should have been disallowed. He was clearly offside when he hit the post and probably marginally offside when he actually scored. Big mistake by the officials which fortunately went our way.
