  1. Typhoon is the future of the RAF, along with the Lightning. It's the rest than need to go. The ancient Jaguars have already been retired. The Harrier has had it's day. Tornado's are getting on a bit, but the GR4s have a bit of life left in them. The Nimrod MR4 has been a monumental waste of money rebuilding a 60 year old airplane. Puma's are ancient too. F2 Typhoons F35 Lightnings Nimrod MR4s (The upgraded project was a financial disaster, but they do provide a role) Puma helis E3D AWACS Sentiel KC330 tanker Airbus A400 transport That's the future of the RAF. It's a lot of aircraft to integrate into the Army and Navy and I'm fairly sure it wont happen.
  2. Nothing. A couple of people were suggesting the US blew up the Iran Air flight deliberately, without giving any reason why.
  3. As far as I'm concered I'm happy if we don't sign anyone else until the season starts, then only get a couple more before the end of August. We've got players covered for each possition. We could do with another CM, pacy wide man and a striker and that's about it. Gelling is only an excuse if you are: a) George Burley b) Having to rebuild the entire team like we did last summer. One or two players here and there should fit in fairly seamlessly into the team. If you're good then you're good. Remember Saganowski and Guthrie in 2007, then Fonte and Puncheon last year. All slotted in and were top class after about 3 games.
  4. Lambert has been given #9 because we need #7 for Skacel when he signs.
  5. You still haven't explained why the US would want to blow up an Iranian airliner.
  6. Perhaps a few people should stop and ask, "why the f**k am I posting this?" more often.
  7. So why did they do it? I'm a bit confused as to why the US would want to blow up a civilian airliner and sacrifice another one full of Americans in order to put an innocent Libyan man in jail.
  8. If we're getting worried about Steve Howard, imagine how they feel about Lambert, Barnard and Connolly. They are good, but we are better. We need to believe it and not get complacent. I can't say I'm too scared of either Carsley or Howard either. Both have fantastic careers behind them, but are 34 and 36 respectively. Last season Carsley managed 9 games for Brum. Granted he has the ability to play more at this level, but does he have the legs. Howard similarly only got 5 goals last year. Again, he will probably do better at this level, but how much? 8 goals? 10? They will be up there for sure, but I'd expect Saints to comfortably beat them over the course of a season. Wednesday is our biggest threat IMO.

    Murty??

Are we actually talking back-up here, because I'd say he was just more like squad fodder. To me back-up means someone who can come in and fill a gap when a first team regular is unable to play. Murty was fit for all of 9 games last season and I see no reason to think he will do better when he's another year closer to 40. Why have back-up which is only back-up for 1/6 of the season? To me it would be like giving Pulis a 5 years PAYP deal and saying, 'what's the harm, if he isn't playing it doesn't cost anything'. Admin man isn't a by-word for "happy clappy man who likes everything." I'm not trolling, that's my honnest opinion. We're supposed to be aiming high here. I just can't see Murty lending any progress to the promotion campaign.

    Murty??

Really don't see any point in that what-so-ever. There isn't anything to be gained by having a 36 year old cripple in your squad, regardless of how much or little he is paid.
  11. Michael Svensson in 2008.
  12. Two very simple rules to solve almost everything which is wrong with English football: 1. There must be at least 6 English players on the pitch at any given time (Unless one is sent off). 2. Only a set percentage of Turnover can be spent on wages (including all bonus', agents fees, sign on fees etc). I don't know enough about football finances to put an exact figure on it, but around 60% would seem sensible. Back to the thread title... good news IMO.
  13. Have you been trying to by some vuvuzelas for Spa?
  14. That didn't exactly work out with Skacel though did it. When he signed everyone got over excited and expectations went through the roof. Then when he struggled to find form and fitness after a lack of preseason training everyone was on his back, Burley dropped him and the team got unbalanced. These signings remind me of summer '02. We only signed Niemi and Killer, but they were good solid, unspectacular players and suddenly we had the best defence outside the Prem top 4 and only lost 2 home games all season. We don't need another Lambert/Skacel/Phillips type big name turning up. Right now I'd be delighted if we signed Antonio, Danns and nobody else (with new contracts for Bart and DC).
  15. I've got the front wing end plate from a 2006 Red Bull formula 1 car, signed by David Coulthard and Adrian Newey. Takes pride of place in my living room.
  16. Not sure you can have any age complaints regarding Butters. He is only 30 and it's only a one year deal. When you consider these last 2 summers we've been offering contracts to the 35 year old Perry, Jaidi and Murty, he's a spring chicken.

    Murty??

I pretty sure he was released along with all the others. Not entirely sure where these rumours of otherwise would have come from. He is ancient and crippled. Even in he does recover from his current injury, I am 99% sure we wont see him in a Saints shirt again.
  18. If anyone has a girl, call her Marion.
  19. Fromage Fraiser Richardson. These threads are what the Internet should be used for.
  20. Every footballer in the known universe, and some from beyond, have been linked to Saints on 606. I think it's more the law of averages than any particular credibility to that site.
  21. It's quite impressive that you've managed to find a link, not matter how tenuous, between fat cat banking CEOs and an airport workers union. You can't justify an opinion simply by pointing out how ridiculous the polar opposite is. If capitalism is so bad, go live in China. Or Russia, it's working out fine for them and definitely didn't collapse in the late '80s and practically bankrupt the country. Back on topic, I'm not sure what the workers earn so I can't really comment on whether it's fair or not. It's another big kick in the head for BA though. Not to mention distruption for Ryanair, Flybe and Easyjet. Just to clarify, BAA don't opperate all UK airports. It's only Heathrow, Stansted, Glasgow, Southampton and a couple of others. Flights from Gatwick and Luton should be fine.
  22. Fonte only signed 6 month ago. I can't see why he'd be even leaning against the exit door.
  23. Great signing. 1123pm is officially F5 time.
  24. If you look at it purely in terms of league possition, then yes we did better in the first half. It would be far more accurate to compare the relative points scored against the other teams. It was easy overhauling the 10 point deduction on the sh*t teams who were going 6 games without a win. Far harder to gain ground on playoff chasing teams who are winning and drawing most every week.
