Lord Duckhunter, What happens if a worker has a permit to work in Dorset. Can he live in London and commute to Dorset? Yes, his permit allows him to work in Dorset but does not dictate where he can live, although he would be encouraged to live in close proximity to his work in order to stimulate the economy of that area even more. What happens if he starts work in Bristol, will he be forceable removed (ala BNP) from the Country? I'm not 100% on this question, is it asking if this person already has a job if he'll be removed, or if he goes against the terms of his permit? If he already has a job, he'll be allowed to stay there, no problems. If he goes against the terms of his permit, he'll be technically working illegally and action would be taken against him and whoever was illegally employing him, but i'm not sure what that action would entail (although deportation is very unlikely). What if he's a roofer and his boss gets a roofing job in London, does the boss have to lay him off and employ someone with a permitt to work in London? I doubt it, I would say that he could rejig the permit by informing the proper authorities and still keep his job. The most important aspect of this permit is the employer/sponsor rather than the location, it's just that people are incentivised to work in areas where they are needed. If this man has a child, upon reaching 16 can the child work anywhere or does he have to stick to Dorset? I'm not sure on this one, but I guess it depends on whether this child was born in the UK or not. If he was born here, then I guess he has the same rights as any British child, but if he moved to this country then I guess he would have to apply for a permit, but I doubt that he'd be split from his family unless he wanted to. Anyway, under Labour's new education proposals, he'll be required to stay in full-time education or an apprenticeship until the age of 18 anyway.

Has the TV debate been discussed at work?
SuperMikey replied to View From The Top's topic in The Lounge
Only 9.9m watched at it's peak last night, which is pretty poor imo. Would've expected more to watch it. Maybe the numbers will pick up in the other debates. -
Non-EU. I advise that you rewatch the Paxman vs Clegg interview, as NC is probably a lot better at explaining the policy than I am.
-
It's not like there's going to be a gestapo force tracking immigrants, what I was trying to say was that they won't be able to go anywhere else because they won't be able to work anywhere where their permit doesn't allow. Their job and home will be in a certain area, and that's where they'll stay, because it makes the most sense.
-
I'm inclined to agree with you, but the attitude shown by ML and NC suggests that they really want to take us to the highest level. If we can sell out at this level against teams like Exeter, then i'm sure we'll have week-on-week sellouts in the Prem, even against teams like Wigan and Stoke (if they're still there). If we're selling out every week then we should definitely look at expansion, as imo there's no point in building a new stadium as St Mary's is still pretty new.

Those tuna steaks look nice, did you get one of those?

Clegg said we need a reduction of immigrants in some areas, but more in others, and he has a point. Two examples he gave were in Inverness and Lincolnshire, and there are many other areas in the country where labourers are needed. The execution of the policy will control the movement of these immigrants too, so they can't go walkabout as their sponsor will inform the authorities and they won't be able to work legally in another area unless they get a new permit granted.

Couldn't think why... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/milton_keynes_dons/8624903.stm http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/milton_keynes_dons/8620925.stm It's a mystery  Couldn't have happened to a nicer, jumped up little pr!ck imo.

I think it was mentioned in the 45 minute interview with Solent a while back, i'll see if I can dig up the page on BBC. EDIT: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/southampton/8565161.stm HTH

In 5 years time I expect we'll be... - In the Premiership, about mid-table (between 10th-15th) having won the CCC the season before, and lost in the play-off final the season before that. - Still at St Mary's, but with an expansion planned depending on our Premiership safety in the first season, taking us to about 42,000 seats. - Having a good cup run, getting to the semi finals of the FA Cup and League Cup (and having won the JPT again in 2010/2011). - Bringing youngsters into the first team from our revamped academy, and hopefully developing players who can take England and the other home nations far in International competitions.

Clegg made the point in his interview with Jeremy Paxman the other day that it would be virtually impossible to round up every single illegal immigrant in the country and deport them. Whether you like it or not, we do need these low-grade workers here in this country, as they're the ones doing the job that nobody else wants to do. Go to any industrial fruit farm etc in the summer, and you won't see groups of jolly children picking the strawberries, it'll be droves of migrant workers scraping together enough money to feed themselves and their families. I think what the Lib Dems are trying to promote with this policy is a 'blank slate'. They're saying; "You've been here for 10+ years, you're contributing to the economy, so you can stay and we'll gloss over the fact that you came here illegally", because they are needed. We may have 2m+ unemployed in this country, but I can't see any redundant software developers or physiotherapists cleaning public toilets any time soon. We're not a primary and secondary state anymore, the general public now works in jobs that are tertiary or quaternary, and it's up to the illegal immigrants and other migrant workers to come in and do the jobs that we don't do anymore.

Brown - Didn't do as badly as I thought he would. Made some good points, asked some tricky questions for the other 2 candidates (mainly focussed on Cameron) and came across OK. I don't like Labour's new policies, but contrary to public opinion, i'd rather have somebody with 3 or 4 years experience as PM running the country at the moment than somebody with none, preferably in a hung parliament with the Lib Dems. Cameron - I don't know what it is about him, but I really loathe the guy. He seems to think he's some kind of messiah, but he just comes across to me as a bit of a jumped up posh tw*t. Didn't handle himself too well when it came to debating with the other candidates rather than just answering questions. The whole 'servicemen and women in Afghanistan' shabang just made me want to gag, it's obvious he really doesn't give a flying f*ck. He just wants to cosy up in Number 10 with Black Beaut...er, I mean Samantha Cameron. Clegg - Very impressed with him tonight. Repeated the 'two old parties' a lot, but every Lib Dem leader has been doing that for years. His communication with the audience was excellent, either looking directly at the person who asked the question in the crowd or down the camera lens at us. If he handles himself like this in the next two debates, there could be a very interesting shift in opinion in the polls, with Cleggy absolutely rinsing the other two in every debate poll at the moment.

That's brilliant - you ever thought of writing a stand-up comedy set? It took your lot bloody ages to shift 33k tickets for an FA Cup Semi Final, it took us a lot less to sell 44k (plus more in the away end) for a 'tin pot trophy'. You might complain about tickets being held back by the FA, but I can see why they did considering the demand. Fact of the matter is, you're a Premier League club (but not for much longer), and we are a lowly League One club (but not for much longer). Even trying to defend taking 3 weeks to sell 33,000 tickets for an FA Cup Semi Final is pathetic.

Yes, but the policy states that if they're an illegal immigrant who is working and making a contribution to the economy and if they've been here for a period of about 10 years, then they can stay. Taking vital workers out of the economy at the moment would be ludicrous, it's the immigrant workers that run this country. This is a 'what's happened has happened' policy, you may have entered the country illegally, but you're now making a contribution to the country so you can stay. I'm not a Lib Dem because of the politicians involved in this (although I do like most of them), i'm a fan because of their sensible policies. It's a good, strong manifesto they've put out and hopefully Nicky boy can go and win some more votes later tonight.

So, should we kick Swansea and Cardiff out then, as they're technically Welsh teams?

Salford Quays is alright. You could go and get involved in some gang crime, that might be fun.

Words can literally not express how happy I am that Dan Mangan is playing! I've been waiting to see him for ages, and now I get to see him at the best festival in the world... I wonder if this is because I tweeted Emily Eavis asking her to book him? The lineup is looking pretty damn good, i've got some serious clashes going on already and there's still loads of bands to be announced...eek!
-
Me too please, i've also thought about this before. Remember when saintsfc.co.uk expired and some religious society picked it up on the sly!

Would've been a perfect night were it not for Huddersfield. Never mind, 3 points in the bag and we can look forward to our next game now!
-
I've got such a massive erection right now for Walsall. I LOVE YOU BABY!
-
F*cking hell! I'm not sure whether to laugh, cry, or sh!t myself with excitement! Hell, i'll do all 3!

My street was treated to a very loud and hoarse version of 'Rickie Lambert - Southampton's Goal Machine' at half-time. Fantastic comeback, but Semi still sounds pretty dodgy, and Seabourne doesn't fill me with confidence either. We need to keep our defence watertight now, "what we don't want to do now is concede" And as I post that - SCHNEIDERLIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIN!!!!!!
-
Sounds like Semi is having a mare tonight, put James on at HT please Pardew. We can't afford to make mistakes tonight!

Brentford beating Southend, 1-0 Not looking good for Southend, they don't deserve to be relegated over the likes of Exeter imo.
