Those comments speak volumes about Puel - an honorable, decent man treated very poorly by the club and fans. Yet those some muppets baying for his head will be the same ones slagging off players when they leave and how dishonorable they are.
-
All the names listed by Wilson are completely underwhelming - as are their managerial records. Puel should have been given another year. Utterly bizarre situation we are in.
-
We don;t always agree but this is absolutely spot on IMO. I think, as a fanbase, we have very unrealistic expectations - and also look back with rose tinted specs. When we finished 6th under Koeman we played some awful football for 1/2 to 2/3 of the season but we scraped wins and this dullness was forgotten in light of the end result. I think Puel was harshly treated - although he did not help himself at times - but if he did refuse to change our style at home then probably best we parted ways. Because the majority of the games at home were truly dull. Personally I think he was harshly treated - and the names being bandied about don't make me think 'wow, what an upgrade'.

so, if the tea leaves are right let me get this straight............... We fire a manager that got us to 8th and a Cup Final playing, on the whole, dour defensive football and are looking to replace him with a coach that: Got to 9th in La Liga, lost a Cup Final, played negative dour football and got fired Can someone please tell me how that can possibly be an upgrade? Makes no sense if that happens and is bats**t crazy. Puel has every right to feel very, very aggrieved.
-
No surprise that he was fired - but I'm not sure I trust the Board to get a better replacement in. The squad last season reminded me of our times under Strachan - quantity over quality. The Board screwed up by not getting a real striker in last summer and the likes of Long and Rodriguez should be hanging their heads in shame - to say they were awful all season would be an understatement. There were glimpses under Puel of what may have been - but unfortunately they were only glimpses. The home games were as dull as dishwater in the main but the away games were much better. I feel very sorry for Claude and believe he should have been given another season - all this chopping and changing will come back to haunt us eventually. Also, what viable candidates are there out there? Tuchel is not coming and I am struggling to see who else might be a good fit.
-
But his days seem to be 1 in 10 these days
-
Really? Talk about clutching at straws.... VVD has been talking to Liverpool, City, Chelsea, etc. and you really think that he wants to stay? He has shown himself up to be as a big a scumbag as Klopp and the rest of the bin dippers.
-
^^^^Disgusting - the book should be thrown at them (Liverpool) and Van Dijk comes out of this really, really badly too. Sure Liverpool, as ever, will get away with it based on their groveling apology.
-
You really are one. With your hit rate for ITK stuff, its safe to say we can typically take the exact opposite of what you say as the actual truth. No idea how something can be a done deal when the club who holds the contract have not even been spoken to.
-
How on earth is Silva any better than Puel? Abject surrender by his Hull side when the chips were down and some dodgy links with Jorge Mendes. Madness why this guy is talked about so highly
-
you can't argue with that at all - but sadly, they style of play at home is what will do for Puel. Simply not good enough - very little entertainment and a very defensive style of play. Way too conservative - if your're winning (like Koeman did last season when there was awful football for 1/2 the season but nicking 1-0s) then all will be well. Lose or not score and people won't (rightly) put up with it. I was back in the UK and took in the City game and was bored beyond belief the whole game - we never went for it once in the game. I would say having to suffer that style of football every home game would seriously make me question whether I wanted to renew a season ticket. Its a shame as he seems a thoroughly decent bloke and has brought some of the younger players on a lot. 8th and a Cup Final would normally be considered a success - but the style of play detracts from these stats. Please not SIlva though!
-
If that is Puel's last match then please god not Silva - anyone who thinks he is an upgrade is seriously demented. Still sat here wondering WTF with Puel's last substitution.
-
That has probably sealed Puel's fate - awful display and taking off JWP for Pied was mindless in the extreme. Home form not good enough and likely to cost Puel his job. Please get rid of Steven Davis in the summer - why on earth is Clasie not playing instead of him?
-
Can't help feeling talk of player unrest is bollix. Sure some players will be unhappy they are not playing but the team has not been playing as though they have given up on Puel. Quite the opposite. 52 games - that's how many games we have played this season after Sunday. No team could play the same players for that many games - whether CP's rotation is over the top is questionable but that is one helluva lot of games. I am feeling disgusted that CP's job is seemingly under threat - he has been let down by Les Reed and co who have done an awful job in the transfer market this season and the club has let him, and the fans, down. Sure he needs to be more attacking at home but this is his first season in the Prem. And I cannot believe so many on here are knocking one out at the thought of someone like Silva coming in. How on earth is that an upgrade on CP?

What is up with some of the clueless c**ts on here? How on earth could you say that was dull negative tactics from Puel - in the 2nd half we really went for it and should have won comfortably but for abject finishing (as all season) and some excellent saves. While not understanding taking JWP off Boufal made a big difference when he came on and if he can consistently play like that without ball hogging we should see some exciting stuff from him next season. Incredible - top half finish guaranteed (and likely 8th) and people are still moaning about Puel and want him pout to be replaced by a nobody such as Silva who just got relegated and certainly did not play attacking exciting stuff. Our finishing this season has been abject which is a big difference. So many of you c**ts were calling for Koemans head when we had that awful run last season and were truly boring other teams to death and getting lucky with 1-0 wins. -

Amen to this.....Saints played really well tonight: especially in the 2nd half. Only an inspired goalkeeping display stopped us getting 3 points and I would just like us to play with that attacking verve more at home. If we can next season could be good. I am stunned that there is any talk of Puel losing his job and the phrase 'be careful what you wish for' springs to mind. -
And I think that's been the issue this season. His tactics work a treat mainly - but only away from home. At home we try to play the same way and its too defensive - we should be more attacking at home but we're not. Hull was a good example of this - we sat back and Hull were happy to also sit back. Hopefully he gets another season - but his home tactics have to change.
-
The guy is an absolute genius and the total opposite of Puel. He has had Hull playing attacking, scintillating football and the results speak for themselves. Why the love affair with this guy? He brought in 8 or 9 signings in January and the way they play is dull and insipid - a game they have to win today and they don't muster a single shot on goal. Then the usual suspects will say 'he got a big win at xxxx' while conveniently forgetting the win home and away Puel engineered in the semis. If Chelsea lost Kante, SPurs lost Kane and Arsenal lost Sanchez for half the season they would struggle - as we have losing VVD to injury.
-
Shame there's no like button. All those jacking off over Silva are mental - the same guy whose team plays an even more negative style than we currently see. Puel should be given next season - we have seen flashes of brilliance but not enough. His style at home needs changing: it is well suited to away games but not home. As an experienced manager and with better players at his disposal next season I would hope he would do better. But to talk of sacking him is mental and shows how deluded the 'want it all now' new super fan and message board posters are.
-
He's a striker who can't hit a barn door from 3 yards out. Yes, he makes a nuisance of himself and runs his socks off for the team - but he is one of the major reasons we have been so goal shy this season. He is awful - really awful in front of goal and 3 goals in 34 games shows that. He had a purple patch last year - aside from that his whole career has been more as a nuisance player with pace than as a goalscorer. And I'm sure management isn't happy - which is why he and JRod have not started much. They had their chances and were awful.
-
Except in front of goal - which is what he is paid big bucks for. In front of goal - he is rubbish, utter rubbish.
-
A win is a win but a bit disjointed. The pivot point for starting to hang on was when Long missed the penalty -score that and we likely score 4 or 5. Unfortunately both Long and Rodriguez showing they are not up to it. JRod, goal aside, was incredibly poor. Long ran his socks off but if he is a striker Elvis is still alive - he does so much right but is useless in front of goal. Still 3 points and if we can finish 8th then the season would have to be judged as a reasonable success: allied with the Cup Final. Would like to see what Puel can do after his first season - most players coming in need a season to adjust so we should cut Puel some slack. The entertainment value has to go up though.

Sorry, but I agree....I think Bertrand has been very poor on the whole this season. Today he has been very poor.
-
Real snoozefest.....really thought Puel had us playing some great stuff a while back with fast attacking football. However, we are back to being as dull as dishwater. I really think more fans would be behind him if we did not play this defensive, ponderous style of play. It is really, really dull watching Saints on the whole. Most frustrating is that we have seen at times how well they can play when we are not playing this dull, ponderous slow style that offers no threat. Perhaps controversial, but I think Bertrand has been exceptionally disappointing this season.
