Following RobskII's exciting revelation in the Lounge about having a sore toe, and somebody's suggestion that it may be gout, I am moved to ask this: Do you get gout? It is supposed to be an increasingly common thing (fatness, booze). I've had it once or twice a year for last 10 years, but am now moving into a phase where one or more joints are continually inflated and misshapen - it's basically arthritis without sympathy.

I was thinking he might consider himself to be a higher level manager that Div1 and may consider us a step down and consequently not be that interested - cf HR GB. I want him to be desperate to do well, rather than take the job coz it probably offers more moolah than anthing else around. I've not got the impression he's been really trying hard to get a job recently... That all being said, I'm really pleased with his appointment.

I do feel sorry for today's teachers (and indeed those from 25 years ago - I didn't participate in giving them mental breakdowns, but was quite amused when others did!). However, from reading the Daily Mail website, this is far more than chucking a board rubber or a clip round the ear, it sounds like he's gone completely mental, dragging the lad away in a headlock then clocking him with the weight (all of course alleged in the paper), also beating off other kids who tried to help (allegedly). It would have shut the class up at least!

Well, no. But all the successful obsessive loonies (I'm thinking of the guy who climbs the office blocks, the Eiffel tower and did the Twin Towers walk) started at a similar age. The guy I'm thinking of was locked out of 5th floor apartment as a kid and just climbed up.
