  1. If the video evidence is inconclusive, then the match officials original decision stands. It's when a clear f*ck-up has been made, the decision should be reversed. The 4th official has a tv monitor which can be viewed and reviewed immediately. He's already got the radio link to the ref and if he can't be seen to overrule the decision, he can call the ref over to see for himself.
  2. You do know people ARE born on April 1st?
  3. I can't see how you can say that. Thomas was a vast improvement on Trotman's first half display. Antonio had run himself to a standstill and we needed the fresh legs of Papa, who came close to scoring on two occasions. And Mills was introduced to add some extra width to the left hand side of the attack. It could have possibly been Mellis but at that time I don't think he'd have done much more.
  4. Well my brother and me are walking up!
  5. Just because he doesn't figure in Coleman's plans doesn't mean he's not good enough to play at that level (or this). Remember Gillett doesn't figure in Pardew's plans and whatever we think of him as a player, he is regularly playing at a level up from us and Donny want to sign him permanently. Horses for courses!
  6. Completely agree with this. This season has been more comfortable, in so much as he has big ball winning defenders in front of him but even now it puts pressure on the defence to win all of the headers. In theory a goalkeeper should be able to punch the ball 18" to 2ft higher than any player can jump due to arm extension. Never been apparent with Davis in goal.
  7. That was the previous season. Last season it was about 9,000. Edit: 9,615. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~1734968,00.html
  8. Not sure there were any. At one point it didn't seem like we were going to make the end of the season.
  9. By Friday 21st August we had sold over 11,300. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~1761089,00.html I think the current update says we're on track to sell another 1,000 1/2 ST's by Christmas, not actually sold that many (yet).
  10. The only times Sky cover the JPT live is if they've got bugger-all else to put on.
  11. He's a damned site quicker than James.
  12. Starting 442 at home is all very well but we haven't got the midfield players to put up a solid barrier to protect our pedestrian back four. It works okay if we race into a lead and we can then change to a more solid 451 in order to close down the game. If we go behind and are chasing the game, we are very vulnerable to the counter attack. Better to start with a solid 451 and put on the pace and power against a tiring defence.
  13. Actually, we started winning with him in the team.
  14. I think crossing the ball is his strong suit and yesterday, particularly 2nd half we should have scored from a couple. Their 3rd goal sadly underlined the weakest part of his game, his shocking lack of pace.
  15. I only really remember him for the 2 goals he scored for Colchester against Dirty Leeds in the '71 FA Cup.
  16. Or misses an open goal from one!!
  17. Shhh!! His Mrs might not know that yet.
  18. I thought scoring against the Skates was one of the rules. Moran, Magilton, Shipps and even Blackstock qualify under that criteria.
  19. Thought their keeper was excellent. Came and got something on most of the crosses. KD take notice!!
  20. It'll be interesting to see what happens to the drivers. Button was rumoured to be going to McLaren to team up with Hamilton, now it could be Hamilton going the other way? Maybe it was because of said rumour that Mercedes decided to pull out at McLaren because they want a German driver?
  21. Shall I start one in the Lounge for good measure?
  22. Re. Wayman, 4 years was probably not very long back then but if you compare it with the modern game, it's almost testimonial loyalty. When typing Kirby it was George Kirby but I actually was thinking of George O'Brien at the time. I could have said Derek Reeves or any of the 50's fans favourites. I agree obviously with Paine and Channon as Saints' legends but Davies although great player, I wouldn't place him in the legends. BTW I was old enough to see Paine and Davies play (although only a handful of games). Channon was and always will be my all time hero.
  23. But is that is due to the era that you grew up. I'll hazard a guess that there are more people in the crowd that never saw any of these play than did and therefore not such great heroes as following generations. They are as much historic names to most, as maybe Kirby and Wayman are to you.
  24. Don't agree with that. That means that unless you are one of the very top clubs, you can't have legends. A chap I worked with for several years, Dave Lewis (actually a Skate but a decent bloke) was an absolute legend at Cheltenham Town because he was their all-time goal scorer. Never played a game above Southern League level but a legend all the same. Legends (and I think the term is used too readily) are players that have done exceptional things for a club at the particular level it is playing. Your views on McMenemy are well documented but as a manager took a relatively small provincial club to become one of this country's best for much of the eighties. Therefore Legend! Ted Bates loyalty unequalled anywhere in the world, I would have thought. 60 odd years, granddad, man and boy occupying just about every roll at the club. Therefore Legend! Playing wise it has to be players with over 350 appearances and/or exceptional goal scoring record. The Terry Paines, Mick Channons, Jason Dodds and Matthew Le Tissiers of this world. Also I would put most capped in that bracket, so although Peter Shilton is not particularly synonymous with SFC but with over 40 England caps as a Saints player, I would categorise him a Saints legend.
  25. Farton Prak April 1976. Channon 1-0, thanks very much!!! The second one was a little fixture at Wembley the first day of the following month,
